Generals Cafe & Grill

Our family loves to meet up and eat breakfast together. The service is always great. The workers are always glad to see us. The coffee is hot and fresh and they even have flavored creamers. It's a down home environment. We all enjoy a great big breakfast that is very shareable. We love all their breakfast menu items so far.

Unfortunately there was a piece of hair in my food. I didn't say anything early on because I didn't want to be rude, when I finally spoke up the manager refused to do anything about it. The managing team wasn't the friendly one I remembered from when I went to this place growing up. The girls and cooks were nice but I can't give service a good score with the way my family and I were treated by the manager. On a side note, I don't eat meat or dairy, so I was told I can substitute the meat, cheese and ranch on a wrap for veggies. Not the case, as I was charged for every extra veggie they "substituted" despite not having any meat or dairy in my wrap or on the side. It honestly was a rip off, because I was charged for something I was never given. The least they could've done was given me what I was charged for on the side. To top it off, the spinach tasted expired! The manager said he couldn't do anything about it, his hands were tied because of the owners. Not sure if this was an excuse, but I would expect better customer service and communication from someone managing a place, especially when there was hair in my food to start with. Was a fan of this place but I don't think I'll be supporting this negative work environment anymore with poor customer service on behalf of the manager.

Watered down mac and cheese really this is a freaking 99 cents Mack and cheese from the store I'm highly disappointed in this restaurant I will never come here ever!!!!! What a waste of money I can. Not believe you expect people too pay for this over priced 99 cent store bought Mac and cheese!!!!! Extremely mad

I had the most amazing lunch here. I had tri-tip , shrimp, baked potato, rice, veggies, and bread. Everything was absolutely perfect. My potato was overflowing with toppings. My steak was cooked just the way I liked it. I had not been there since it changed hands. I will definitely be back. By the way two could have eaten from the generous helpings I received.I wish I would have taken a picture .

I am 4th generation here in Porterville. As of the recent 6 months FOOD QUALITY and SERVICE has rated a "F".I have a travel business and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.I ordered simple Sunnyside Up eggs and they came to me RAW. I figured I'd give it a second chance and asked for over easy eggs and runny and they came HARD BOILED.I asked Manager what was going on and he was very rude. I told him about my past two experiences and he was very rude..I am now reaching out to the owner to complain because the service of this place has went down to the gutter And the owner does not care about the qualityHe was actually in back of the kitchen cooking, and this occurred with poor quality service happened.

The food was very tasty. The amount of food that was served was worth the price. This restaurant doesn't overprice meals and is very budget friendly not to mention the food is really delicious.. I would be definitely returning to this place.

We went to Generals Cafe for Breakfast for the first time recently. The restaurant is old and did not seem that clean. The table had a sticky feel to it. I had a cup of coffee that was almost flavorless. They do not serve half and half. Only chemical coffee creamers. We ordered ham and eggs. Our over medium eggs were almost over hard. The hash browns had black pieces of potatoes throughout the hash browns. The ham was not the best quality. The ham was quite greasy. Not to mention the restaurant is over priced for thelow quality of food. A total waste of money. This is only my opinion.

Excellent food, excellent service, great management . I came he once and now in come back every weekend. The strawberry lemonade is the best. Zack.

I'm a regular customer and the girls are all super nice but the owner treats the girls absolutely horrible he talks down to them yells at them where everyone can hear I cannot eat there anymore due to how verbally abusive the owner is to his staff I seen him make a waitress cry so unprofessional the owner obviously is an incompetent jerk that has an ego problem no wonder his staff quits on him!

I went there today after an appointment. The food is pretty much as it always has been. I was seated right away and someone came to take my order quickly. So, I ordered the soup, salad and garlic bread. I was told that is only offered in weekends. The menu does not reflect that. So I ordered fish and chips. They were okay. Not as good as at other places on town, though.And the prices were too high. They need to offer a daily special or three that don't test the pocketbook apart.
