We took a risk of not reserving anything, just hit the road toward Big Sur. Around 11pm we decided to stay for a sleepover on the campground, located near 101 North. It's a self-service area, where're no gates, an information board with white envelopes to fill and pay. So we just got in, found an empty space, parked and set up our tent. It's a great small campground with fire pits, benches and tables, restroom area and water hoses. I amVery impressed by the fact, that at 11pm when the most of campings are closed, we were able to stay. On the way back, there's a box for payments, so everything is fast and easy. I am pretty sure you can also reserve a spot in advance. So enjoy!

Came from San Diego to camp here. Took a risk to camp here. Not knowing what to expect. Host are nice and friendly. Had camp site #12 with my girl friend and it was peaceful and away from others.Bathrooms was great. They was clean and flushable toilets which is nice. The only problem I have is that the parking lot is a one way. If a car was trying to come out and you was trying to go in. Someone would have to park on the side. But other than that it was well worth the 4 hours drive. The water holes are nice. I would bring bug spray since there are lot of flying bugs.

A simple, no frills campground. It's not a huge campground. Probably 10 campsites. A campsite is $20 a night. Reserve online or first come, first serve. We showed up without a reservation, but there weren't any issues since it was practically empty. The campsites are very open. Limited shade and privacy. No showers. When I went, the bathrooms were locked, but there were outhouses next to them. There are also several water spouts on the campground. $6 a bundle of firewood. The only negatives I can think of right now are the roosters in the morning and the flies. It;s also right by the road so you'll hear every car passing by.

We are here on Labor day weekend and it is quiet and perfect. We happened to book last minute and got one of the best 2 sites, № 6. Both 6 and 15 are spacious, full shade, and FLAT! Most sites here have at least half shade, but most are on a slant which would make sleeping a challenge. Site 6 has a water spicket across the way which is mostly in the neighboring campers site, and site 15 has one on their site which seems like no one else would use from it's location. It was difficult to tell how the sites look from the website so I hope this review will help others.

Visited this campsite July 23-26. This is the worst camping experience I have ever had. I don't need a shower when I go camping but I do need water to cook and wash my pots and pans. Needless to say, water fountains were not functioning. No water!! How in the world do they open these sites and charge full price when there isn't water available?! The restrooms were closed and the portable potties were in deplorable conditions. When I talked to the campground manager, she said to speak to the supervisor. I didn't waste my time but instead drove to a nearby site to collect water in my containers. I don't plan on returning to this area for camping.

Campsite itself was nice. Not their fault that weather was going to well over 110 degrees there. It was TERRIBLE. Don't come during a heat wave. Thought, mountains would be cooler. After research, even though it's right near the Santa Barbara County beaches, the Los Padres mountains somehow block the air flow from the ocean which creates a desert like setting in that area (Santa Ynez). Camped 8/15-8/16/20 Saturday to Sunday. - Walk in. Sign said 100% capacity but decided to just drive through to see. Small campground. - Got super lucky as all other campsites were RESERVED. There was 1 walk in site left that had a sign up with OPEN when we got there around 10:30am (Site 5. Right next to camp host site). Camp host was not there so we decided to wait instead of driving further down to different campsites and risk losing it (Paradise and Los Prietos). - Waited about 7mins. Paid with camp host $30 for one night and $10 more for extra vehicle as max is 1. We asked if there was another site and she told us that the one we were booking was the only one. She did mention that since it was super hot, some campers did pack up early and leave. But, she can't give those away since it's already been paid for and they might even return at night. Camp host was also very friendly and asked us if we needed firewood and to let her know if we needed or had other questions.- We stuck around until about 12-1pm. It got too hot that we decided to head down and maybe come back later at night. - Came back around 7pm after driving around the beach areas. - It remained hot throughout the night. I think by maybe 10-11pm, it was OK. - Lots of flies and bugs. We made a trap at night/morning for the yellow jackets. (search youtube.)- Bathroom situation. Reason why I decided to come to this area was because they have flush bathrooms. For whatever reason, flush bathrooms were closed and they had about 4 portapotties. Now, 100+ weather and portapotty... DO NOT GO WELL TGTHR. I'll leave it at that. (I'm shuddering and gagging at the thought again.)- Next to main road (Paradise Rd.). Site 5 is right near it so you will hear cars and see head lights at night. You will also hear occasional Turkey gobbles and cow mooing as it's right near a farm. - Sites are pretty spacious to spread around esp site 5. We had 2 SUVs and 3 tents up and we still had room. - I am 100% willing to return after the heatwave and flush bathrooms are back up again!

Went camping here over the weekend. Small campground with 15 sites. Great spot if your looking for some seclusion. There is plenty of shade at each site. We stayed at site 14 and 15. Site 15 has a large area centrally located in the middle of the campgrounds. If you want to be away from people sites 12 & 13 are place towards the back and away from the other sites. The bathrooms here are clean. The host are very friendly and come around to check on sites. Each site comes with a grill, firepit, and picnic bench. Some sites will have their own water spout. You're not suppose to wash hands, dishes, etc at the spout. It is for you too bring the water back and do it at your site. There is one trash bin located at the center of the camp grounds. There are several hiking trails around the area. There is a lake a few miles north but we didn't get a chance to go. We went hiking at the Red Rock Trail which is few miles down the road.Be sure to bring bug spray though. Lots of mosquitos buzzing around. If you bring your pets be sure to check them for ticks. Brought our dogs and found some trying to hitch a ride.

In short: it was the worst campsite I've been to in the entire state. Most reviews refer to this place as a "little buggy." A little buggy? The places is a bee hive. The whole site is on a 15 degree slant. And the host although nice, gets a little testy at night. Don't camp next to her unless you plan on going to bed at 10 PM sharp. On Friday night, our families were asked to quiet down 57 minutes before quiet hours at 9:03 PM. "This is a quiet site." These rules really only apply near the host. The site further away were allowed to howl at the moon and sing and carry on until 1 am. I would never come back here.

We were excited to stay here due to the fairly good reviews and good pics, but we were pretty disappointed the minute we stepped out of the car. First and foremost were the FLIES...there were so many of them and were just flying everywhere.. In the mornings you can actually hear them whizzing around (flies and meat bees). It was just so annoying.. We drenched ourselves with insect repellent and it helped a little since they weren't landing on us, but they would still circle around our faces. And our poor dogs.. they looked really uncomfortable with all the bugs nipping at their cute faces. The campground itself wasn't so bad..It's really small and the pics posted on yelp are pretty deceiving.. The layout didn't give much privacy-my friend remarked that the place looked more like a rest area then a campground. We were at site 10 which was in the middle, and every now and then we would get a good whiff of something that smelled like a dead animal. We thought it was maybe the dumpster smell that was close to our site, but my BF insists there it was a carcass that was lingering around. All in all we made the best of our trip and had fun spending our day out in Lake Cachuma and the beach, but won't be back to this campground. One good thing about this place are that the restrooms had flushable toilets, and the restrooms were fairly clean. But You've been warned about the FLIES. And bug spray will not help.

Ports- a- potties baking in the sun, dusty, full of gnats BUT the camp host? So amazing and cool. Stayed here as a last resort. If you are no frills and don't mind some noise it's for you.
