I love this store so much. The people are friendly and owner is very funny. But the real reason I gave the 5 stars is because of the popcorn. That popcorn be slappin at 10am on a Monday morning. Definitely gotta come to this store, even if it's just for the popcorn.

I appreciate Exeter Mercantile. I can generally find what I need on the tools and parts side of the store and all the employees are extremely helpful. They are also open 7 days a week which is great when I don't want to go to Visalia on a Sunday. Where I think they fall short is on the home/gift side. It needs a revamp desperately. The generation supporting the gift side is not interested in glass and ceramic ware that looks like it belongs in the antique store across the street. Those wooden angels were cute 30 years ago. The "old money" of Exeter no longer supports this store so they need younger, fresher lines. Also should bring back better quality lines like kitchen aid. I love their Exeter signs in the front and I think they should expand that concept to having a whole section of locally made goods. People like to support local! Personally I think they should take this summer to plan a fall "reopening" of their gift store. Tear up that horrendous carpet, paint and refresh the walls and showcase new lines in fall in time for Christmas shopping. Also a little side note their garden amendments and fertilizer section is awful. Most other Ace's I've been to at least carry a few organic products but not here. Please revamp Exeter Mercantile because your town really wants to support you!

After relying on the Mercantile for years for my go to parts place I had to go to Amazon to get what I needed. The part was probably "in the back" behind the counter but on a Saturday afternoon, in a pinch for this part, the employee said I would not have anyone to help me until next week...Going on line I will have the part tomorrow... Sad, I would like to give my business to local, brick & mortar, but due to the lack of ability to provide service, or simply access to the product, I will more than likely order on line or make a trip to Visalia to get what I need... Things have changed

Ditch the big box stores & go here! I always receive excellent customer service. Today I went in to grab paint, Sabrina pushed back taking her lunch break just to see me through the end of my project making sure I had all that I needed. In addition she also had great paint tips! 5 stars for the friendly, knowledgeable staff.

I used to live in this little town. It was such an interesing feel to it that trying to define it is really difficult. Its very rural, yet sophisticated. It's small, but strives to have a larger feel. It is one of the smaller towns in the valley but seeks to reach out for clientele as far as it is able.Exeter Mercantile could almost be the spokesperson for this little village. It embodies all of these descriptions. Half of the store is dedicated to hardware- where you can get tools or screws and bolts and lumber and whatnot; the other half is dedicated to finer things...it's like what you would imagine Sur Le Table started out like. It's an ideal place to get gifts, and it's extra special if the person knows you got it from there. One downside is that their prices are a little on the high side, but anyone that understands retail and the fact that they are out in the sticks, and are a smaller operation will understand that it comes with the territory.Looks like they are just celebrating their 100 year anniversary this year as well. I have to admit, I do a bulk of my shopping through Amazon nowdays and I fear that those actions will be the demise of small places like this. Having said that, whenever I'm in the area, I try and pop my head in and patronize them simply because I appreciate them and what they offer the town of Exeter.

Super cute hardware store located right across the street from the "Manderin House". Very very friendly and helpful customer service. I came to this store looking for a certain size and watt lightbulb. I knew I would find it here because sometimes big box retailers do not carry odd sizes. I was greeted right away, and was helped right away as well. I will definitely be back.
