El Capitan Mexican Grill & Cantina

Food was good. Service is exceptional. The owners are very nice and accommodating. Wide variety of menu options and a bar in the front.

Yummy, but I wish there wasn't so much beans in the burrito.Defiantly will order again, just something else.

We've been in town for not even an hour. We need to go to the grocery store, but it's also dinner time. The places I'm finding are either in the wrong direction or closed already. After some debate about what to eat, and mom vetoing pizza, we're going to hit the road and see what we see. The road to Vons is filled with every which type of restaurant you could want, so we keep our eyes open. My wife spots We El Capitan, it's got good reviews, which is all I ask about, so we pull in. We get seated right away. It's not busy at all, so apparently we came at the right time. As we look over the menu, we get our chips and salsa. My daughter says that it's got a bit of a bite, but my wife and I don't think so. In fact, she would later say it was basically just tomatoes. A few things look good to me -the shrimp tacos, chile Verde burrito, suiza enchiladas, etc. I go for the fish tacos. Daughter got nachos, oldest got chile Colorado burrito, youngest got a burger (lol), and wife got the 2 item -tamale and Chile relleno. The kids all enjoyed their food, but my wife and I was like, meh. She said her tamale tasted dry, my tacos could have used a little something extra. I was thinking a Cilantro lime sour cream. My wife suggested a squeeze some lemon on it. I already had lol. Too much cabbage I think. In the end, I resorted to pouring the salsa on my tacos with each bite. Oh, and towards the end when things started winding down, so did the service. I had to go ask for to go boxes and my bill. After getting them and and waiting around again, I had to take my card up myself to get it ran. So yeah, over all, it was a disappointing experience. My buddy who grew up in Bakersfield told I me should have went to the east side of town for good Mexican. I think he was right

I was in the mood to try something new. I stopped by El Capitan not knowing what to expect . I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this restaurant is great for groups . Amazing for lunch and a good place to sit and chat . I came in during lunch and was greeted by a gracious hostess. She took my order quickly and checked on me regularly to make sure everything was up to standard. I ordered a margarita and chicken tacos . I want to say the tacos were citrus or tropical? Either way they were flavorful and delightful. The margarita was very good as well . I cannot wait to return and enjoy more of the delicious food .

Let's start with the employees. Super friendly people. Next, the music. I do not understand Spanish. The music was Spanish. It was soothing and mellow. I think if the music had been in English it would have ruined the mood.Finally the food. EXCELLENT!!!I ordered the Chili Verde. It comes in a boat on a platter full of beans and rice.The beans were smoking hot and very tasty.The Rice was flavorful and cooked to perfection.The star however, was the Chili Verde. There were large chunks of pork and the sauce was surperb.On the side I had tortilla chips and salsa along with three hot flour tortillas.All in all the meal was delicious.I highly recommend this restaurant to any who loves good Mexican food.

Came here for girls time and dinner. The drinks did not disappoint.The margaritas are fire 5/5The food off the regular menu is a lot of food but amazing.If you just want a smaller portion you can order off the bar menu for smaller appetizers plates.The ambiance is traditional Mexican / Spanish style tiles and great musicService was amazing the waiters kept suggesting more drinks, please do keep them coming. & we did come back! This time around noon I believe we went it was a bit more full then the first time but the waitress was awesome. She sat us very fast, brought the chips and salsas (just needs more salt to my taste) she took our drink orders and then came back with the drinks in a timely matter.Once we ordered we waited about 10-15 minutes but it didn't seem that long of a wait and the food came out hot, my husbands torta came out and then my sons cheeseburger which could've been brought out in a bigger plate, my son even said it him self he would've wanted a bigger plate so he can eat comfortably (age 5) it was all smushed with the fries but it's okay. Then my plate came out which looked soooo good and hot with every bite.Very good service, it wasn't loud or to quiet, everyone mind their own and the food was delicious. Definitely will be coming back again

This place definitely deserves a bigger following. This is a nice family owned and run restaurant. The food here was fantastic and full of flavor everything was made it water down to the chips and salsa which were both fresh tasting and full of flavor. This restaurant also offers a fully stocked bar. It was also nice to see that there was no shortage of flatscreen TVs so I was able to keep up with the game highlights and scores. My chili Verde burrito was definitely filling and there was no shortage of meat. Rice and beans were mediocre basically what you would find at any Mexican food establishment nothing special. I also ordered a pupusa platter. Those were also full of flavor fresh and hot when served.

Staff is very friendly but food was EXTREMELY SLOW. We arrived on a Saturday at 2:30pm after the Kids Empire for a quick bite, place had only 3 families eating. Ordered 4 tacos al a carte and a kids meal, took about 40 minutes. Food was below average. Shrimp tacos are not beer battered, instead it more like ceviche inside of a flour tortilla. Drips everywhere and shrimp is almost raw. I didn't finish it. 1/5 stars for food. 5/5 for the cold Modelo.

Tried for the first time and was not disappointed! Service was great and the food was great! We are creatures of habit and it's nice to find another place to go. We will definitely be back!
