Department of Motor Vehicles

We drove from Bakersfield to this DMV because we used this one once before because we bought a car in Bodfish and went here to do paperwork. First the people who work in this DMV are absolutely the nicest DMV employees I've ever encountered in my life. Second no lines to speak of maybe five people ahead of us? Really at the DMV??Third I'm going to be sorry I yelped about them because people will drive like us just to experience the unreal experience we had going to the DMV. (Now it will be crowded) There is always a joke about going to one but this was a shock. Totally painless and a nice drive to boot. I even messed up on what I was suppose to fill out and it was like no big deal. Any other time it was like here go fill this out right and wait in line again. Not here they were so nice!!!So if you have to go handle some DMV business and don't have a scheduled appointment it would be faster to drive the 37 miles to Lake Isabella, get in and get out, see the Kern River, the canyon and be treated like a customer and with a smile.

I was amazed at the great service Lake Isabella DMV provided for my daughter who was taking her first written test. We were early for our appt and seen immediately. The clerks were friendly and helpful. I watched one clerk (Chris?) help several elderly ladies- she was very patient and kind. Our clerk, the younger girl in the middle was very helpful to us. If not for the heavier set clerk at the end I would have given 5 stars - she needs to work on her people skills. Bakersfield DMV's could learn a lot from them.

I drove here from Bakersfield because all of the DMV locations here are always really busy. First of all, I love the drive from Bakersfield to Lake Isabella because it's a beautiful scenic route through a canyon, so that's a plus! I came here on a Wednesday afternoon around 1 p.m. and didn't have to wait more than 10 to 15 minutes. I was in and out really quick. The people that work here are really friendly, it was definitely worth the drive.

Never have I had the unfortunate luck of dealing with such an incompetent dmv. Would never return. Complete waste of time. After driving two hours to get there they informed us that the paper we had filled out since last visit (they wouldn't let us just finish our business with them last time; we just absolutely HAD to have an appointment) was invalid because they had switched paper forms. Was there any notice? Absolutely not. Thanks for nothing lake Isabella, or as I call it now, lake ignorant hicktown.

Customer service here is like the winter weather in this town. Can be bright and sunny or stormy with lightning strikes.

I'm giving the Lake Isabela Office 3 stars in favor of Andrew and Don who were very courteous and walked me thru the process. This would have been 5 if it wasn't for the rude front lady (name?). She was heavyset, caucasian with glasses. I rented a car and drove from Long Beach (3 hours) to avoid the long LA lines & for ever waiting appointment times. This office didn't have any lines. Anyhow this lady viciously rejected my documents ( birth certificate & proof of address) because they weren't certified. I told her I drove 3 hours to get here and humbly asked for her help. All she did was slap the documents checklist in front of me & said " sorry I cant help you." I was not going to give up that easily so I waited patiently for Don (Manager) and presented my documents and he said they are certified and even stamped with a seal. With a smile he gave me the green light and referred me to Andrew who kindly helped me with my drivers license. Thumbs up to you Don & Andrew! 2 thumbs down to you rude careless lady with glasses in the front. You're lucky I didn't read your name tag. You need people skills!
