Cowen's Pet Resort

I have to admit I was hesitant taking my 10 year old shepherd mix, Giovanni, to stay here during a heat wave (104° and up). The kennels are all outdoors and my dog doesn't spend much time outdoors unless we're going on walks, in the pool, or just hanging out in the grass - AKA he's a spoiled indoor dog. Here's the details on Gio's visit:He was placed in a large kennel - divided into two sections: Section 1 has cement and is fully shaded. Section 2 is dirt and without shade. I believe they also have misters, but I couldn't see from where I was standing.Food: You can opt to have your pet fed the food that is provided or bring your own. I opted to bring Gio's food, divided in individual breakfast and dinner baggies (this is Cowen's policy). Gio also takes 2 medications a day - they had no problem administering his meds.Extras: Gio being the spoiled pup he is, I opted to have him exercised and given ice cream during his stay. Maybe it was mom guilt for leaving him in the burning heat for 2 days, but I'm sure he enjoyed it. (There is an additional charge for this)His 2 night/ 3 day stay totaled $55. Gio came back happy and healthy. They even provide you with a cute report card (see attached photo) for how your pet did. A+ camper for G! Will be taking here again in the future.

I highly recommend this place if you need somewhere for your pet to be when they cant be home with you. Very clean, very friendly, very safe pet resort. Our dog is not friendly with other dogs, but friendly with people, and he had no issues any of the times we have dropped him off. They interacted with him and made him feel at home while staying there. All of the staff we have met has been great also. 10 out of 10.

We have left our pup Zoey with Cowens three times over the the past three years and every time we have had nothing but good experiences. Zoey always comes back happy and in good spirits just as happy as we leave her if not more. The staff is great always friendly and I love how they can always tell us exactly how her stay was in detail. I would definitely recommend Cowens if you are looking to board within the area. We will continue to bring our girl here in the future.

Our babies stayed here for a week. They came back happy & healthy. Ozzie and Bear loved it here. I definitely recommend. They are more than affordable!

We recently took our dogs to Cowen's for a weekend stay. I felt very comfortable leaving them there. I was called immediately when one of my dogs broke their toenail (she has made a full recovery lol). My dogs were absolutely pooped from all the fun they had. We are going on vacation next week and our minds will definitely be at ease knowing our fur babies are in excellent hands!

This is our top choice for a kennel for our dog. They have great prices and they even can pamper your pet if your willing to pay a little extra. I think we choose this place over the other kennels around due to the open area your dog is placed in. You can bring your dogs food, beds and toys if wanted. They also have an ice cream social for your dogs around 2:00 pm daily. If you need a kennel for your animal call this place up and set up an appointment.

They always take good care of my dogs. I always get the spoil option so my dogs get a little extra attention. I tried other places but I never liked any of them. At Cowen's they always remember my dogs and my dogs remember them.

Cowen's is the best boarding in Bakersfield. I have a Great Pyrenees and he gets excellent care here. I've boarded at a few other local places before finding Cowen's; this is the first place my boy didn't come home stinky and stressed. Cowen's is very clean and offers a couple of options such as leaving the kennel to go to potty, which is great for Hank. During our last stay, Hank had a bath and this is the cleanest I've ever seen him - not an easy task with all of his fur and drool!

Booked with them 3 times. First time no problem, second time my dog came back with cuts on her nose. I called to ask what happened, they said maybe it happened on the bottom of the fence. Booked a third time specifically mentioned about the cut on dogs nose from last visit and asked if the dog can put put in an area where she can't cut her nose on the bottom of the fence. They said sure no problem, picked up my dog and again cuts all over her nose. Complained to manager and she gave me the run around. Don't book here you pay for what you get.

Great local place who cares about their customers and their pets. I've taken my 4 yr old German Shepherd here for the last 2-3 years after trying out a few other kennels that didn't really meet my expectations. I am always satisfied of their services even if there are minor hiccups that comes as expected for any small businesses. Valerie is one of my favorites; she is a hard worker and always carries a great attitude and an exceptional customer service even, in busy weekends. I trust this place and you should to. Great hard working people who cares about animals and their customers. Keep up the great work Cowens!
