My Wife and I ate at the Canton Restaurant at 419 East Main Street in Visalia, California today, December 14, 2024 and our waiter was Gary Zheng. My wife had the Egg Foo Young and I had the Mandarin Chicken which came with Pork Fried Rice and Egg Flower Soup. The service was great, as Mr. Zheng was very helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys Chinese cuisine.

We came at 830 pmBusy as always; nothing new. Got seated and served drinks quickly. Was told food was going to take awhile to cook. Dad got his food first which was delicious and I got mine 15 minutes after which was fine. Dad ordered the wrong combo but he very much enjoyed the gravy and that Pattie The only thing that does bother me is the amount of tables that are dirty and stay dirty . It just makes the environment feel like unsanitary

The food was very reminiscent and comforting of Chinese American food in many other mom and pop restaurants. The service was prompt and attentive.

This place is like a 1980's time capsule. Qingdao Beer calendar on the wall? Check. Table older than your grandpa? Check. Paper placemats with Chinese zodiac? Check. The Chinese name of the restaurant is way more interesting, 羊城, the City of Rams. Around 900BC, the city of Canton had a famine. The gods gifted the people 5 good luck rams that brought 3000 years of prosperity to Canton. Ok, enough history lessons. The waiters are fast and emotionless, which is typical of old school Cantonese restaurants. I turned on my charm and the waitress finally smiled . I ordered the first thing on their lunch special, Mongolian Beef . It is one of the most famous and least authentic Chinese dish. Like magic, the egg drop soup appeared instantly on the table. Who need small talk when your waitress has super power speed. Very nice soup for a cold winter day. Then the main dish came so fast I barely swallowed my last bit of soup. Why do people love old school Chinese restaurants? It is the value. The dish is huge, a full serving of fried rice, a full serving of chow mein, and a generous portion of beef. Honestly in any other restaurant it can be sold as 3 separate dishes. The beef was sweet, tangy, with mild spice (Cantonese people are lightweight when it comes to spicy food), with delightful white onions, carrots. Shameful, guilty pleaser for sure. The fried rice even have bits of bbq pork in it. When the bill came, it is $13 tax included. I ate until I burst and I only finish half of the food. If you want a quick, hearty, delicious Chinese fix, this is the place for you!

It's been a while since I've been here. It's changed a lot! Not in a good way.. The wonton soup was cold. It came out at the same time with the chow mein which was hot. Maybe a lazy way to get both at the same time. I don't know who dropped the ball on that it was terrible. The chow mein was ok but nothing special about it. It had 4-5 pieces of shrimp and two pieces of fish no squid or other seafood, mediocre. More vegetables than anything! The Peking spareribs were actually decent. Arrived 30mins after the first two dishes though. The service was ok, but if it was her fault for a cold soup then not good. I guess the soup made a big difference especially if you came for the soup. You know hot soup on a cold day.. The ambiance was frantic all the tables were packed with leftovers and dirty dishes. About 7-8 people in the kitchen maybe they needed to go out and help clean and clear off the tables?!I don't know it used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Visalia in the days but those days are gone!! It's such a bummer!!!

I went during the week at lunch time to try this place on my lunch break. The ambiance: It was not busy at all it was quiet and we. It did not disappoint. I had a lunch special that had orange chicken beef broccoli chow mein and fried rice. My thing is chow mein. You have to have good chow mein and this place had it. The service was fine, waitress was nice. Now I have two great options restaurant wise to choose from. This place and new star China. I'll definitely come back to dine in would love to try their other plates.

This is our go-to spot for Chinese food in town. A couple of our favorites are the Honey Walnut Shrimp and the Combination Chow Mein (it's a little spicy)! I wanted to add updated menu pics with prices since I had a little shock at the increase in price for our order. Still a great value for great food, but like everything else, the prices have jumped up a bit.

I would have given three or four star, but I went with a friend for lunch a week ago, We finished our lunch and were boxing some leftovers when my stomach started to act up, by the time we were out the door it was really hurting, we were planning on going to Costco afterwards, well that didn't happen due cramping and being nauseous, made it home to diarrhea that lasted four days. had to go and see my doctor, that said it was food poisoning. due to the bad experience I had I will never plan on going to Canton again food needs to be kept at certain temperature, cleanliness, and food handling is very important. But we cannot see behind the scenes
