Happy at Cameo Kennels!

Lurine and company are professional and normally courteous enough. She is more of a dog person than a people person but she has taken care of my animals properly each time they have been there. The dogs stay outside in large pens and you can pay a little more to have them get some yard time. As far as we can tell they adhere to our feeding cycles and the dogs seem no worse for wet when we pick them up. Overall, the value is good the courtesy is meh but not horrible and they care enough at the kennel to keep my animals healthy.

My fur babies (Bostons) absolutely LOVE Cameo Kennels! In fact I tell them we're going for a ride to Ms. Lurine's house, and they're prancing waiting for their leashes! This has been a stressful year for me as a human, but the bright note in the middle of all has not only been the boarding, but also the training. I now have dogs who respond to commands, walk excellently on leashes and are social with the other dogs. The reason why is simple. Lurine trained them, made them comfortable in their surroundings and kept them together. They have had A+ training and I really couldn't be happier! In fact I'm sad that I'll be moving out of the area, with no one to count on to watch my pups. Cameo Kennels is a bright spot in this little desert town.

We've kept our dogs here a couple of times for over a week and they were fine. There are indoor and outdoor areas in the pens. Bring your own bedding and anything else you think they must have but not small toys that might get caught in the drain. We've had good experiences with the owners so no issues there. The road to their place is a bit rough so take care driving there. At half the price of the vet boarding I still recommend this kennel.

Terrible experience. Dog hated it. My dog hated the place, and especially hated the female owner (and this is a friendly dog who loves everyone!) Not sure how she treated my dog when I wasn't around, but I have never seen my dog dislike anyone that way.Outdoor kennels in the desert--not a good idea when nights are cold or days are hot. Dog came home filthy from being out in the dirt & sand. The (female) owner's personality is so abrasive that she sets my teeth on edge. She claims to be an expert on dogs, but after talking with her I quickly realized that she is misinformed on many things. After my experience there, I ran into others who have used this kennel in the past and they said the same thing...they stopped going because they couldn't stand dealing with her.Needless to say--I will never use this kennel again.A far better option is to take your pet with you and use a kennel at your destination, or near the airport if you are flying. Unfortunately, as of yet, we don't have a good kenneling option in available in Ridgecrest.

I am very picky about where I leave my dogs. I trust Cameo Kennels. The kennels are spotless and are cleaned every day, there is also air conditioning for the hot weather of the desert summer. All dogs are given time outside their kennel to run around in a yard area. They will feed any special food that you bring for your dog(s) and give any medication that you bring to your dog(s). Lurene loves all animals and is very knowledgeable about dogs. She pays attention to the dogs in the kennel and will know if there is a problem with any dog. This makes my feel safe in leaving my dogs there.

Excellent trustworthy kennel.I have used Cameo Kennels for years with different dogs, always with good experiences. Dogs have always been happy with both Lurene and Phil, and excited when we drive up. I recently had to leave my dog for an extended period of time (weeks), and was completely comfortable that she would get great care and attention.

I've used Cameo Kennels for many years, and they always take the best care of my hounds. The indoor/outdoor runs keep them cool in summer & warm in winter, and they're given exercise in the large yard once or twice a day. I know my guys are safe & happy when I leave them there!

I don't leave my pets very often or without a lot of carefully placed trust, so I checked out Cameo Kennels and the proprietors thoroughly before my first encounter nearly twenty years ago. This kennel has been in Ridgecrest for many years, started by a well respected man named George who himself founded the Ridgecrest Kennel Club. When he retired, he encouraged his best protégé, Lurine Norwood, and her husband Phil to take it over. They have owned it now for over two decades. Lurine holds a certificate from Ian Dunbar's prestigious Pet Dog Trainers program, and is certified as an AKC tester in the Canine Good Citizen program. She is a real dog person going back to childhood and has the AKC titles on her own dogs and those she's trained for others to prove it (all the way through Utility Dog Excellent which is their highest title) She has several beautiful champion show Collies that live on the premises with her and Phil. Their daughter, Anna, who has her own dog grooming business in town, is also a well respected canine professional. This is a true dog loving family and Lurine's association with Ian Dunbar testifies her preference for positive reinforcement and utmost regard for the dogs' well being. The kennel itself is fairly small, a perfect size for a couple living right on the property to oversee and care for. I liked that aspect very much. There was a veterinary facility doing boarding in Ridgecrest that burned down overnight just a few years back because no one was there to notice until the building was engulfed. Knowing Lurine and Phil live right on the premises gives me a great measure of peace of mind. Also when I had to leave an older little dog one time, Lurine refused to put her in the kennel because she felt it would cause her too much stress and kept her inside the apartment instead. To me that speaks volumes for her compassion and my little one came through just fine. The kennels are cleaned at least twice daily and there are two big exercise yards for young energetic dogs to play under supervision. Each of the runs has an indoor and outdoor segment and the heating and cooling are kept at temperatures you would keep your own home. Each dog gets personal human interaction several times a day, and any dog with a health concern or just advancing age is carefully monitored. I witnessed this myself on more than one occasion and was very impressed. Cats are also welcome, and the feline units are large with hiding boxes for nervous guests.A part of Cameo Kennels is Cameo School of Dog Training which Lurine conducts several times a year with classes held at the Kerr McGee center. Going through one of these classes (I've been through several now) will really show you how much Lurine is dedicated to her love and understanding of dogs. She is a rare professional in this field - honest maybe to a fault, but her concern for the dogs and promoting an understanding relationship between dog and owner is always foremost. I really respect that. This is not a brand new facility with high tech bells and whistles to impress you, but instead it's a small, safe, clean, old fashioned family operation run by people who have a genuine love for and real understanding of dogs. As I said, I don't leave my pets often, but the only place I have come to thoroughly trust with them is Cameo Kennels.
