It is something to do when you're at the area. Wear comfortable shoes because there is plenty of walking. They have a lot of different stalls that sell lovely stuff, yummy food and souvenirs. There are even stalls that are giving free items because they are advertising something. There are entertainment as well, petting zoo, art exhibit and a BMX BIKE SHOW. It's better to come early to beat the line at the admission and have a good parking.

So many rides, food, and treats! I loved the vibe. Live music and good food is my thing all the way. Even the kiddos had a blast. The petting zoo was good for them and the seals were so funny with posing for pictures although I don't like exploiting animals for pics so I stayed out but they were adorable. Parking is a pebbly dirt lot, pretty well organized but the walk to the entrance is far... they have trolleys taking people there though, but maybe not if you have a big baby carriage or wheelchair. Not sure.

Very disappointing moving to the fair grounds on asphalt and concrete. It's not a poppy festival anymore, it's just a fair :(

This festival totally blows!! Extremely expensive food, even by festival standards! $15 for a funnel cake? $10 for a lemonade? $23. for a turkey leg? Stop at the bank before going there.. One would think there would be flowers at a flower festival... But not even one!

I don't often write negative reviews, but my visit to the California Poppy Festival located at the AV Fairgrounds was the worst experience ever. I'm sure there was much we missed that could have been enjoyable, but do to the insanely long lines for just about everything, there just wasn't enough time. It took almost an hour just to get inside. We stood in line for a beer for 25 minutes, followed by 1 1/2 hours in line for a $13 plain grilled cheese. At this point we burned out and ready to leave. On our way back to the parking lot, we decided to stop by at the petting zoo. The animals looked like they were in prison. Very small metal enclosures, with a ton of people and noise everywhere, with no place for these wonderful creatures to hide. It was very sad.

This is NOT AT THE PARK! IT'S AT THE AV FAIRGROUNDS. If you want to come, come early. Its way too crowded. It takes forever to park and then you have to wait in a super long line just to enter! Wasted over an hour just trying to get in. And then.....you have to wait again in super long lines to get your food. It's fun, but not worth all of the headaches.

Good enough reason to come out to take your kids for carnival rides, petting zoo, exotic rainfrest animals, BMX Bike Show, cotton candy, hot dogs. Adults can buy specialty foods such as Buko/young coconut juice in the shell, baked goods, nuts, etc. at the Farmers' Market as well as arty farty knick knacks. Kaelyn's Kitchen had great Jamaican food. Jerk Chicken from their smoker was delectable and a deal for $10. The Poppy Stage had some good "garage band" music while the small Primrose Stage had varied local talent such as "Desert Lotus Tribal Fusion Belly Dancing."Go first to the California Poppy Preserve to view hillsides of golden poppies in their natural state near Lancaster, then to the festival to kill two birds with one stone. Unfortunately, due to another drought year for 2017-2018 rain year and bad timing of the little rain we did have, there were no poppies in bloom except on a small patch of ground at the Poppy Festival. For me, as mellow & laid back as this fair was, it wouldn't be worth it travelling all the way from L.A. just to go to this festival. However, for locals the California Poppy Festival would be a good once a year diversion. FYI: There is a group of people with signs of "Fear God" & "Going to Hell" near the front entrance. They were discreet, yet very strange in sending out an image of a god full of hate, anger, revenge. Most times you get more flies w/ honey than vinegar.

First time at the poppy festival. We drove out to see the poppy's but nothing, the weather just didn't work out this year so the hill are bear. Also it looks like the solar companies are taking over a lot of the land around the preserve so nothing to see but panels. But we stopped at the festival and had a good time. Would of been great with the grandkids but it was a day out just for us. Lots of food vendors so you have a lot to eat before going home. Ha ha.
