I've been here twice before but never seen the entire space until this recent visit. Previously, I didn't think the place was too special since I'd only ever seen the section near the front. I absolutely love the river front RV section! There are also clean restrooms and showers close by. Can't wait to come back!"

Andrew K. "Stayed here Memorial Day weekend 2016. As you drive in you are greeted by the dull hook up area to your left and a small office / laundry building straight ahead. Barbara met us on the porch with a smile and gave us the low down on the place. Because this was our first time she offered to lead us to our "behind the gate" spots 6&7. (Take the lead in..... Its a good distance). As we went thru the gate we soon came to the dirt road and left the world behind. We entered into the gorgeous rolling hills of Tehachapi with Brite lake behind us and the backside of Tehachapi Mtn park in front of you. The road winds around a few bends and you then see the large bathroom / shower house and now see just how HUGE the sites are. We got to site 6 & 7 and were very happy. 6 was all dirt, level, and lake side. 7 has a huge concrete pad, small structure, level, and lake side. Our guide left and we set up. Bring an extension cord and extra water hose as the power and water hook ups are not ideally located but considering the remote nature of the spot its amazing to have the amenities at all. Great water pressure and no electricity issues at all. We loved the resort and were surprised when they delivered firewood for free ( free wood ) to our spot. They don't want bark beetles so they give you local wood to burn. Bathrooms were cleaned every day and well kept. Cold water in the showers but oh well. Dump station at the bathrooms for the rigs is nice. Just watch you angle as i had to go in against the arrows and point up hill to het the fun out. Love this place and will return!!!"

Group 1 is for 30 people, it does have any shade and right next to the road and portal potties... group 2 is where I stayed at and it's for 12 people and it has a nice parking spot and slight shade... 3 trees on the campground . Group 3 is for 12 people and the nicest and closest to the river.. it has the most shade, although it's the smallest. There is no running water, portal potties only and no host! It can get very hot and windy here. I'll probably come back here. The river was crazy high and to dangerous to go in."

My friends called and obtained last minute reservations a week before our scheduled trip. Thank goodness they had a spot available. Campsites here are slightly more pricey than other areas, but well worth it for the "extras". We arrived late and did NOT have a welcome package waiting for us at check-in station, therefore we had to figure out the code to drive into the first gate. We're smart cookies and figured out the code, of course. Once we found our site, the camp host greeted us 30 min to 1 hour later. Forgetting the guys name, but he was friendly, talkative and easy going. Campsite comes with a picnic table and fire pit and room to park 2 cars. LOVE the flushing toilets, running water from the sinks as well as the coin operated showers here (so don't forget to bring quarters). Running river nearby with a game area (giant connect four) out there too. As I'd take my family to come glamping here soon."

So had to do a lil improv to the Cristo. It served the purpose. We have two little dogs and they were thrilled. There was a knee deep brook we waded in and the pups swam. The sites are little on top of each other so you when it's full (summer and a weekend) expect to hear Latin 96fm blasting till midnight. But aside from that a good campsite, with a grill. They are the closest site to the city so this seems to be a popular one for big groups and families. Make sure to get your food, beer and other essentials before you leave La Canada as the only thing being sold once you hit the Forest is fire wood by Otis on the side of the road."

Cherie S. "This campground is an awesome and beautiful location with terrible management. I have camped in hundreds of campgrounds across the USA, and this is the most expensive campground. It's $85 a night in summer, and that only includes 2 people. Add a few kids ($5 each/day), dogs ($5 each/day) and extra adults ($15 each per day), you can easily pay over $125 per night to camp in sites with patchy grass full of stickers. Bathrooms are dirty, lots of spiders, and you have to take your own trash to the dump which is overflowing and crawling with bugs. In summer, when everyone is cranking their AC, the voltage can be weak and it can damage your RV.I've been coming here for 40 years and it makes me so sad to see how the management is charging insane prices and the place is falling apart. If you don't already love Kings River, go find another campground. They make you check in between 3-6pm and charge extra if you come in early. The only reasonably priced thing is the ice, which is $5 a bag. Skip this campground. It's not like the old days."

Some can be told and others..."What Happens at the River, Stays at the River!".i'm sure that we coined the phrase before Vegas did. (wink wink)The river was icy cold yet spectacular. I was mesmerized by the sound of the river surging. If we would have put in our raft at Headquarters, we would have hit tequila Chute. We only wanted to do that if another raft was around. We drove down a bit and hit Kernville/Powerhouse Run (Class II-III): The Powerhouse run is the classic beginner run on the Upper Kern. Ewings, Powerhouse, and Big Daddy Rapids will either be a fun challenge or put the fear of God into beginner paddlers. Boaters often choose to run this short 2 mile section several times in a day. The water was icy cold. There are stores nearby if your husband forgot the rum and if you run out of ice. We had 3 sites together. I was in site 21 across from the river. Near river, bear boxes, restrooms and trees are aplenty. The fire-pits all still have their grates. Headquarters is our place. We love it.(http://www.californiawhitewater.com/rivers/upper-kern/whitewater/)"

There are trails to hike on along the river and one in the camp site that is quarter mile long with signs telling you about the hike. There are some great hikes along the rode out to the campground (off main road but on the road you turned off to get to campground) that are AMAZING!! Waterfalls. Pools. Just beautiful. We were able to squeeze eleven people and three dogs and four tents onto one campsite with more than enough room for playing catch and setting up seats around the campfire pit. We spent our days cracking open cool beers along the river's edge while fishing and hitting up the beach (Yes beach!) at this site. The nights were spent around the fire playing Catchphrase and eating s'mores and hobo dinners. The highlights of my experience here:-Early morning dips in the river to serve as showers-Finishing my Corona at the beach when a water snake swam by my leg-Checking out the 100 Giants Trail-Crazy stars at night since there's only firelight and random lanterns and flashlights-Early morning jogs along the road to catch the sunrise"

Lesley R. "We stayed at Boulder Gulch Campground during the week before Easter. This means it was not yet overrun with people escaping the heat so it was relatively quiet. It was also clean maybe because the year had not kicked into high gear (judging by another review who said it was dirty). I heard from the camp host across the street at Hungry Gulch that this place (Boulder Gulch) is known to be for the party people and Hungry Gulch for the mellow, just want to enjoy nature people. We stayed at both and believe that could be the case.In April it was a beautiful place with big boulders all around our camp site. We came in late (per our normal not getting our act together early and then driving) and left early (about 8-9am). We got to stay for free because the people did not come around to collect the fees (that is how they do it, I guess). We even tried to pay at the ranger station but they refused it....saying the people commissioned to collect did not get out there early enough (we left at 8 or 9am).We stayed at Hungry Gulch the next time (on our way back through) and enjoyed it more (we had more time). It is pretty amazing how different it is just across the street (more open, few of the boulders like at Boulder Gulch). The town of Lake Isabella, CA itself is "colorful". Between the Baptist Revival Tent deep in town, the Easter jellybeans sold with scripture words on them (black has sin on it, ect), the tweakers in the laundromat, shopping carts in people's front yards and a confederate flag hanging inside a garage? It did not leave much room for much else.Don't get me wrong.....I enjoy seeing a completely different town as it makes me appreciate home more (in the woods).. I would stay away from this place next time due to what the camp host said. I posted photos."

Every campsite has a photo of the actual campsite lot! (Major score) I do not like surprises! We were welcomed with a "drive thru" style check in where all our information was taken and wristbands were given (felt very safe) also a map along with activities that were scheduled for Saturday (meet the animals, rock painting and movie night). The staff was friendly and welcoming. Also, they have 1$ popcorn buckets for movie night!!The campground itself is all dirt. BE PREPARED FOR SAND TO FLY! Most camp grounds that I have been to are paved where cars pass, however, Frandy's is solely dirt/sand. This may not be an issue on days that are not windy. Access to the river is great, the river is clean and not too busy, plenty of people are rafting and floating. Now let's talk restrooms, there is only one building with three stalls available!!!! I wish they had at-least two, they compensated with porta potties that are located in threeother ends of the site that are just horrifying . If you are one that regularly has to go this may be an issue. Just say a prayer before entering those Porta Potties or be prepared to walk to the pretty restrooms, take your pick. All in all, it is not bad. I love how close it is to town just in case you forget something. The town itself is so cute. 100% relaxation.Pros:-large camp sites -river access-friendly staff-ice, ice cream, sun screen, chapstick, firewood etc is available to purchase at the office. -close to townCons:- not enough actual restrooms-smelly porta potties-dirt/sand"

There was a camp host that we never saw, nor needed but it was good to know someone was there. The bathrooms were clean and located in multiple areas around. They had tables, bbq and fire pits (that we couldn't use due to fire hazard season) and also water spigots. What we liked most was the shade it offered. There are a few other locations very close by and those didn't really offer any relief. We were excited that we could hear and see so much wildlife! We heard owls, mules, birds etc. In the morning we had deer walking through and wild turkeys! They were huge and not really scared of us, so we could get pretty close to observe them. So so cool! It was also only about 10 min from the main road and our favorite restaurant so it's in a convenient location, at least for us!Ok for the cons, yes, there were a lot of gnats or fruit flies, I'm not sure the difference. I hear that vanilla keeps them away... not sure I believe that or not but I might bring one of those candles next. We did make good use of our citronella though. Our 2 biggest complaints were the amount of poison oak everywhere. We wanted to go to this one campsite tucked in a little better but it was surrounded. We had 2 dogs with us and I was too worried to stay in that area. I definitely didn't need them to contract it AND/OR bring it into the tent. The other was that the trees that are overhead had extremely sharp leaves! Our dogs were having a lot of issues with their feet. I'm not sure why those trees were the ones of choice at the time of organizing the campground but I would watch out, not only for your for your fur babies, but your children as well!"

Even in the fall it was pretty..and we have also been here in the spring when it's greener and the flowers are in bloom, so perfect! There is a river running through the property (duh, that's probably where it gets the name), and there's multiple places on-site to have the ceremony. I want to get married all over again, just to have another big evet here, it was seriously so perfect. One of my favorite parts was the amazing rustic gazebo where you'd have your reception/dance area. They have cool lanterns and white lights strung, lighting and a sound system already hooked up for you. We barely had to do any decorating (just the tables). The tables and chairs for everything also came with the rental of the facility. Speaking of, it was a really good deal, especially because you are able to be there Friday through Sunday. We were able to be there for a few hours on Friday for rehearsal, and a bit of setup, then all day Saturday, and we were also there for hours on Sunday morning cleaning up and we explored the property a bit after that as well. If you cross the river, there are pastured with animals (horses, chickens, etc.).We used an iPod/mp3 player for our of our wedding music, and it was extremely convenient to do that here. Where you would have your ceremony, they have speakers set up so all you have to do is plug it in and have someone controlling it. Same thing with the reception area. Some other random things worth noting: they have a brand new bridal cabin where you can get ready, they have bathrooms, beer & wine only (you have to pay for their bartender, too), they have a HUGE fire pit (smores were a huge hit at our wedding, with everyone!), they have a kitchen & bar area, tons of different places on site to take photos, lots of parking, the owner had tons of things available for us to use as decor (lots of vases, bottles, easels, tables, baskets, etc.).Gary (the owner) was extremely helpful with all of our questions and concerns, he can also marry you - which is a plus if you're looking for someone to do that. They offer food options if you want to go for that, but we went with a caterer out of Porterville (Cherry Tree Catering, so good!). You can also rent all of your linens through them, which was also convenient.Us and ALL of our guests were SO impressed with this place (they still talk about how cool it was) I will definitely suggest this place to ANYONE having a wedding."

There isn't much separation between the campsites, which keeps this place from getting the fifth star. I can't stand campgrounds that overlap, and in the center campsites, you certainly get overlap. The grounds are clean, well-maintained, and each site has a bench and a fire ring (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fD0Gk8qqdb8CGw_Uzum00A?select=z0YjFo-Ux65VkWIJRkL0bw#AVRT1hFzutFCZ6n9F_1yFg). Some of the larger sites have food lockers to prevent wild critters from yoinking your food (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fD0Gk8qqdb8CGw_Uzum00A?select=z0YjFo-Ux65VkWIJRkL0bw#VmLyfdvY_UtJwzixq0H7NQ). Tiny, locked, garbage bins provide convenient waste disposal; meaning you don't really have to "pack out" any garbage. :) Thank you, Parks & Rec for spending my tax dollars wisely. Verdugo Suckfest = tall grasses, which have those irritating seeds that get stuck in your socks indefinitely and mercilessly poke your feet. Just surrender your feet and calves to the inevitable irritation. No biggie. The campsite is next to a Boy Scout retreat camp and the Verdugo Oaks Fire Station. This means there is "potable" water you can retrieve at the Boy Scout camp. There's one spigot that I've found with a drinking fountain attached.I've never seen this place overflowing, so it offers a nice retreat form the madness of the city, and it's only about an hour (hour and a half, at most) from West LA. And when your camping trip is over and you're fiending for REAL food, there is an In-N-Out of the I-5, in Valencia. **IMPORTANT: You will need a California State Adventure Pass to camp here. They're $30 for an annual pass (good for 12 months, not just 'til the end of the issued year) and available at most camping supply stores, like REI, Adventure 16, and maybe Sport Chalet. With this pass, you can camp at Verdugo Oaks for up to 14 days, consecutively. The pass is good at a number of State Parks and campsites all over California. Without one, you're outta luck.**Verdugo is my new go-to spot, for a quick escape from the city (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fD0Gk8qqdb8CGw_Uzum00A?select=z0YjFo-Ux65VkWIJRkL0bw#LM1DjNtlgudPWQrNfzvxDw). Trees are sparse. Bring a pop up for shade. Sites 11 and 12 are strictly for trailers. Very very small and tight. We ended up just parking one truck in each site. Sites 7 and 14 are in the middle of the campground. Kind of rocky, but OK. Beware of the fire ants! The odor from the toilets kept wafting through Site 7 and 14. Pretty raw. If you have your own personal potty, I would definitely bring it. Sites 8,9,10,11,12 were all next to the Kern River. Wonderful to hear the rushing water especially at night. Beautiful views of the river and mountains, and great star gazing at night. Site 15 is closed for camping, but you can walk through it and get to the river. There is a shallow and calm patch right there because of the growth. You can stick your feet in and watch the river. DO NOT GO INTO THE RIVER! The water is rushing at Hospital Flat. It will claim you.10 minutes to Kernville, Lake Isabella, and about 45 minutes to the big Sequoias drive. I'd rate the campsite a solid 3, but the view, river, and proximity definitely bumped it up a notch for me.I was disappointed that campers before us left the campground a mess at mostly all the sites. Located about 70 mile north and east of Bakersfield at around 2500 feet evaluation this little hidden gem was a blast. We arrived on Friday around 3:00. The office located at the top off the hill once you get on the property is a small place where the owner stays from time to time. The RV spots are a nice size so you don't get the feeling you're looking in someones bedroom. Lots of shade trees on most of the spots. It has several tent locations that have a hose bib and fire ring. Most of the spots are full hookup. They do have bathrooms and showers in a few locations on the property. We saw kids riding their bikes around the Village. Several people giving it a go at the catch and release fishing pond. On this trip we wanted to get use to our new trailer and set things up. We did decide to go over to the trail of 100 giants which is about 17 curvy miles away. If you haven't been it is a must see. The trail is paved which makes really easy to walk or it someone is in a wheel chair they can enjoy the 1/2 mile walk as well. We did travel to Camp Nelson for lunch adn could have stopped at the Ponderosa, fyi they have food as well. If you are pulling a trailer make sure you fill up in Ducor as you will use some gas climbing the winding road. The temps were about 10 to 15 degrees less than Bakersfield. We will diffidently make this trip again in the fall."

We asked about bears and he mentioned that was not an issue there; so we slept with our toiletries inside our test (WHICH I LOVED!!!!) Our group rented site B; a 25 person; 4 car site ($7 or an additional vehicle) I wouldn't recommend this site for 2 reasons: most of the cleared ground is in an incline; second, site A has to walk through the site to get to the bathroom and parking lot so it can get annoying to hear people walk by your tent all all hrs of the night not to mention the brightness from their flashlights.Site A is too far from the bathrooms and you'll get the sticky eye for walking through site B. Best group site in my opinio is C-- semi-secluded with tons of sitting area and pretty close to the bathroom. Yes, it's a 50 person site but at the very least you'll have plenty of space for your group of 25 or more. My selling point was seeing the wood benches carved out of pine trees around the fire pit.I'm giving this campground 5*s based on our experience and activities around here-- oh, and lack of bears lol the only animal you have to worry about are the mosquitoes on late evenings. There's an easy hike that starts behind campsite #23 that goes all the way to Quaker Meadow.I would recommend Freeman CreeksTrail (a 2-3 min drive from here). It's beautiful, it has shade, lots of trees, bridges and in some parts it runs parallel to a creek. Also, there's Dome Rock-- the views from here are breathtaking and more so during the night. I would suggest you go around 7 p.m. or around sunset for a beautiful view of the whole valley below and for you to scout a sitting area to go back and stargaze around 10 p.m. This was legit the highlight for me.This spot is a 10 min drive from the campsite. The dirt road could be rough so use caution if you're driving a small vehicle."

It depends on what you're looking for.If you're looking for a family getaway, a campground well taken care of, with paved roads and sturdy restrooms, and lots of activities on site or close by, then this will not work, go to another campground.Oak Flat is quite primitive. But if you want the real primitive experience, like driving off the remote paved road for a mile and putting up a tent, then you'd better leave Angeles National Forest.Oak Flat is a rustic, unpaved, safe, cheap place to lay your head, and that's it. But that may be all you need. It's located just over 20 miles north of Highway 14, so it saves you lots of money over getting a motel room in a good area of Los Angeles. It's HOT in the summer, but it's in an oasis of oak trees amongst the bare golden hills, and the trees offer some shade. It's pretty in the spring with the green grass. Pyramid Lake is a short distance down (and I mean DOWN) Old US 99. Bring water and an Adventure Pass. It's nice having a camping spot so close to LA. Other places might be closer to the action, and I'd rather make my own spot, but I've read horror stories of the mountains due north along Highways 2 and 39, and I value my safety. But these yahoos causing the horrors don't travel up I-5. I can rest easy at Oak Flat, warts and all. Also note that there is not a sign on Old 99 saying "Oak Flat Campground". I think there's a sign for a maintenance area, and it's one of only a few places on the road to turn left, so go up the hill a little and you're there.Oak Flat Campground is simple, hot, and sometimes ugly. The sites are rocky though, and you have to make sure your tent will fit before choosing one. The website (www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232138) does a pretty good job of giving maximum dimensions for each site. Some sites are along Maricopa Highway, while others are tucked further back, between the stream and the mountains. I found a site (site 40) that was further back and had buffers (hills, stream, shrubs, trees) to cut out on the noise and allowed more privacy for me and my hammock. There were plenty of trees, but none that I could use for the hammock. I have a Tensa4 Hammock Stand, so that wasn't a problem. The hammock and the stand pretty much filled the available space, so a 12 to 15 foot tent would be pushing the limits I think. Each camp site has a picnic table (very short, and about 25 years old according to the gravity), a fire ring, and a grill. Vault toilets are well spaced throughout. There is quite a bit of poison oak in the area, and be sure to bring bug spray along with your calamine lotion. I saw the camp hosts several times each day and they were friendly.Ojai is only about 10 miles away for shopping and food trips. Highway 33 runs through the mountains and ends up in the desert about an hour north. It is one of the best motorcycle roads I've been on."

Reyes Creek Campground

Reyes Creek Campground

Rosie B. "It's really beautiful but at mile 0.8 there is a hair pin turn that made my ass pucker and it's a SINGLE LANE going up 30 degrees. If your in an RV this is what nightmares of made of!! Hahaha but seriously worth it. Just pray no one is going the opposite directions because backing down would make me cry.I was in a small 5th wheel and our spot 4 was too small even though it says it's for RV's. Gets really hot during the summer months, around 106 when we were there. Lots of mosquitos and tiny flies that follow you and go up your nose and mouth like a big bug cloud. We wore a bug net."

Hungry Gulch Campground

Rachael B. "We definitely lucked out when we decided to camp here for memorial day weekend. Hungry Gulch turned out to be one of the best camp sites that we have ever been too. It smelled amazing and it was clean. We got the most incredible site, secluded from all other campers. It was higher then the other sites, which gave us breath taking views and our site seemed larger than most of other sites. If you walk closer towards the entrace of the park, you can find a fantastic view of Lake Isabella. I posted 7 Pictures of hungry gulch, including our site, views from our site, views of lake isabella, and the kern riverThe bathrooms were decent, but there always seemed to be crowds of girls waiting in line to take showers; at least 9 girls standing there every single time I went to the bathroom, which was annoying. There were HUGE spiders in the corners of the stalls, but the rangers came by and killed them each day, which was good. The sites themselves were great. There were scattered pine trees all over, flat surfaces, with great views of the mountains, and a ton of blue jays. Overall our experience was excellent. We will be coming back for sure. Best of all the Kern river was close by, and we were able to hike to some amazing spots and cool off in the water."

Sandra M. "This was the fourth time we've stayed at Camp James. The first time we stayed in a tent on the riverfront, and the last three times we stayed in the cabin. The cabins are much more comfortable! lol. The cabins come equipped with plates, utensils a large electric frying pan, electric skillet, crockpot, paper towels, dishwashing detergent, etc. Cabins have beautiful knotty pine throughout and I just love staying there. This last stay we were excited to see a small herd of deer come through and just graze while we watched. It was amazing! I recommend this place highly . The staff are very accommodating and very pleasant! I will be returning for a fifth time!"

Coco W. "This site is for the well prepared outdoor, die-hart experienced camper. Tent camping. No hook up, no shower, no Wi-Fi. Rugged outdoor camping. You make your reservation and when you get to the site, you pick out your site. No reserved camp space. You plant your flag in your space of your choice. Nature trails throughout the campsite. You can walk to Lake Isabella. Campsite not far to Wofford Heights and Kern River. Also near the office of Kern River Outfitters for the White Water Rafting Tour."

Dmitry K. "Overview:If you're looking to investigate the south side of Sequoia National Park then Holey Meadow is an excellent spot. We were looking for a campsite on short notice during the July 4th weekend, and Holey Meadow was one of the few campgrounds still available. My number one priority was to find a campground with shade and I'm so happy I found one. The only reason this review does not get 5 stars is that the park ranger never came and didn't remind our guests at a nearby site not too get rousy drunk and talk all night. Great for groups. Each campsite is pretty close together so you will hear each other's conversations, but not too much to any major inconvenience. Overall had an amazing time at Holey Meadow. Campground & FacilitiesThere are lots of trees to shade you from the 90 degree afternoon summer heat. This is first time where I was not freezing at night. The campsite is pretty small compared to others in the area. There are only 10 spots. Bathroom are clean for a campground and they have toilet paper which is seldom provided. The trees provide great cover from the scorching heat. Mosquitos are present but not in such large amount as what I've seen in Emigrant National Park. Make sure to bring bug spray though. Things to do:The Trail of 100 Giants is only 2 miles away, so this camping site makes this an ideal location for the trail. http://www.yelp.com/biz/trail-of-100-giants-springville?hrid=LJDRcRMnTtGlq2qZP4M71AThe campground also has a beautiful meadow to provide you with numerous awesome pictures. Each site comes with a fire ring and stove. Directions from Reserve America Site:From Highway 99, turn east on J22. Travel on J22 through California Hot Springs, then turn left at onto M50. After approximately 10 miles turn left at M107. The entrance to Holey Meadow Campground is on the left about a mile after the turn.On google maps street view there is no sign for the campground but in reality there is."

Ballarat Store & Outpost

Ballarat Store & Outpost

Fred T. "So the 5 stars are for the outpost and the owner. The Ghost Town its self is at best 3 stars. The Ballarat Store and Outpost are located in the Panamint Valley. Its fairly close to the town of Trona and about 30 miles from Panamint Springs. There is no gas so it is advised that you gas up at either location. You don't mess around int he desert. It is a general store with lots of odds and ins and importantly cold beverages. It also makes an ideal stopping spot if you are taking advantage of the many off highway trails to get a cold one, air down, or up as the case maybe and secure everything because the roads get pretty rough from here. The owner is friendly and personable. The Ghost Town has a few buildings and an interesting story coupled with a old derelict Dodge power wagon that is claimed to have been owned by Charles Manson. Not much else aside from wild donkeys who seem used to humans and some come right to you are so be careful"

Lina L. "I met my family here while they were camping. I only stayed for the day. They fished but didn't catch anything. I saw lots of other people trying to fish but they didn't really catch anything either; people kept talking about how when the water level was extremely low a lot of grass and other plant life grew and kind of made it to where you have to go further into the lake to actually catch fish, plus you can't use a gas motor boat, because it's water that supplies the domestic and agricultural Tehachapi area. Don't know if the reasons for not catching fish is true. The camping grounds were nice and clean and so was the bathrooms; they have bathrooms close by and showers. They also have water, electric and sewer hookups plus fire pit. You can't swim in the water for the same reasons gas boats are prohibited ; which is probably why it wasn't so busy with people and kids.We were a group of 12 adults; we barbecued, told stories, took pictures, sat around the fire pit to keep warm, enjoyed the nature outdoors and had a really good time. It's nice that it's just far enough to get away from the city and close enough to drive there. Would surely come back."

Julia S. "We took a risk of not reserving anything, just hit the road toward Big Sur. Around 11pm we decided to stay for a sleepover on the campground, located near 101 North. It's a self-service area, where're no gates, an information board with white envelopes to fill and pay. So we just got in, found an empty space, parked and set up our tent. It's a great small campground with fire pits, benches and tables, restroom area and water hoses. I amVery impressed by the fact, that at 11pm when the most of campings are closed, we were able to stay. On the way back, there's a box for payments, so everything is fast and easy. I am pretty sure you can also reserve a spot in advance. So enjoy!"
