"Hubby and I stopped for an early dinner today. I had fish tacos with fries, he had a burger with stinky fries. I must say for the amount of times we've ate here today was one of the best. Both of our meals were fantastic! I even walked back to the kitchen and complemented the cook on our way out. He was very thankful and appreciated the compliment. Service was excellent as always. If beer is your thing, they have you covered! Great ambience. Give them a try if you haven't been there before. Super yummy!"

"I noticed the new Don Chepe location several weeks ago, and decided to see what is up, and stopped in today for lunch. There is quite a large menu with options from Mexican food to burgers and fries. Most of the menu is Mexican Food. The restaurant itself is nondescript with zero personality because the location has housed quite a number of different businesses over the years. I ordered the "Bowl" with Carne Asada, which is a combo platter in a bowl. It looked great and was larger than what I was expecting. Unfortunately, there is not anything more that I can say about it. The bowl comes with the usual suspects; rice, beans, guac, lettuce and your choice of meat. What was lacking in my bowl was flavor. It was a bland as bland could be. My other gripe is that the lettuce is combined with the hot foods, instead of being on the top.No outdoor seating. Masks are not required. Staff is not wearing masks in a high COVID area. A bit pricey for the area. Bland food.I'm sorry to say that Don Chepe is a one and done for me."

The fries are seasoned, not just salted, which gives them a unique taste! Be warned though, the place is quite close to the high school and a lot of the students go there during lunch. So, if you are in a hurry, be sure to get there before the school lunch rush."

"Aesthetically speaking the inside of the restaurant captures the essence of the rustic Mexican style restaurants. The food was delicious, I ordered the chimichanga de asada. The chimichanga was stuffed and the audible crunch from the perfectly fried flour tortilla was very noticeable. The guacamole was good although to my taste needed more salt. This is my own personal taste tho. The flavors inside the chimichanga were well balanced and seasoned. All of the flavors were delicious but I must admit that I am still stuck on the flakiness and crunch on the tortilla."

"I went there for lunch with a friend it was so good I had to go again today. The place is a small, cozy pub, quiet ambiance at lunch. The decor is clean and modern. The service was very fast. I ordered the carnivore flat bread, again. It is salty, tasty, savory, fatty, definitely the best flat bread I had the last couple of years. My fiend ordered the buria taco and he really liked it also. Need to go back and try their brew one day."

"Three stars is being extremely charitable here since this spot was the last place available to get food still open when I finished up a long day of bidness nearby. So they are getting three stars for still being open and having food available. They really managed to be open, so tick that box. Unfortunately, it is a sports bar so their main thing is probably shovelling tee many martoonies into the locals first, rather than providing the best food known to a person who is not yet drunk. Their menu largely reflects it is sports bar food - wings and such. So I am sure I gave them the California shock of their life when I rolled up at a late hour and ordered a salad. The lettuce was poor quality, in a place like this I imagine they do not get many orders for salad. They made it rain bacon chunks to offset the salad part of the salad, and the egg was rather sad looking. Still, I managed to get some food in me for the first time in over twelve hours due to all that bidness happening nearby.In a pinch for a salad late at night in downtown-ish Bakersfield? You can not do better than this joint right here."

There were plenty of empty tables when I sat down, but wait was very long, which was problematic for me since 2 eggs, sausage, and a pancake should take 40 mins tops from order to exit and I was there almost twice that, which made me pretty late for my next activity. It was almost 30 minutes before I even got to order. I don't have anything bad to say about this place, but that's too long for me for a simple breakfast."

"This restaurant has had many incarnations throughout the years. It has recently been remodeled and looks so much cleaner than in the past. The decor is pretty and modern. They removed all of the booths have tables only. This must be very convenient for them when the need arrises to accommodate larger parties. They are very family friendly. They have little bud vases on the tables and cloth napkins. They also bring a standing purse Or baby bag holder, if you ask, to place next to your table. I've not seen this before and I think it's a helpful accommodation, especially because so many women carry enormous bags and you are always trying to figure out where to put them! There are a lot of nice touches. The service was okay today but nothing special. We ordered Cadillac Margaritas and the appetizer Fiesta plate. Both were tasty but not outstanding. I had to ask a second time for our Margaritas and they didn't arrive until after we had our food. The food and drinks are on the higher end for Mexican food. We paid $57 for 2 Margaritas and the appetizer. They have a full bar with TV's and what looks like a dance floor. There are lunch specials & Happy hour."

"Enjoyed a Saturday morning breakfast at this little cafe. Inside it's a cozy room with 5 tables inside for dining (and a few tables on the patio) in view of the tiny kitchen area. The place was full of diners and there was one cook knocking out all of the dishes. What a rockstar! I know that's not an easy job, but he seemed calm and efficient. It's understandable that there is a little bit of a wait for the food, but there is plenty to look at! Lots of aviation books/magazines, airplanes outside, etc.I judge a cafe based on their eggs & bacon; my overeasy eggs were great, bacon was thick and crispy. The home style potatoes were fried perfectly with lots of bell peppers and onions. Their sourdough was tasty and buttery.My husband got the sausage omelette that was huge and stuffed with chopped sausage patties and cheese.Overall, it was a nice experience. The manager was very friendly and attentive.We paid around $30 for our big breakfast plates, a coffee and an iced tea. I took home quite a bit of leftovers.I will come back to try their burgers!"

They offer online reservations which is convenient. It is quite casual with outdoor seating and inside seating; featuring a bar and tables. I would advise that it's best to not have a party that exceeds 6. The seating gets pretty cramped. I'm sure they could rearrange, but that party size (or larger) will warrant an automatic 20% gratuity fee.Ultimately, this place seems suitable for a sommelier or those who want to have a nice chat over drink and tapas (appetizer like meals). Beyond a long list of wine options, there are some mixed drinks, beers, and non alcoholic beverages one can choose from.The menu can be a tad overwhelming. We did express it was our first visit, so I think it would have been beneficial to get a quick overview by the waiter. There was a miscommunication with waiting for happy hour (9pm the day we went) to get drinks, but then being informed the entree courses become unavailable at that time as well. This detail isn't noted on the menu. Unfortunate, since our party was looking forward to trying out the scampi and steak frites. But partially our fault for not inquiring on that detail. Nevertheless, the night persisted. Our server was attentive in inquiring if we'd like more refills and providing a water cannister for us to use to refill our cups. We opted to have the open range melt, npr burger, charcuterie board options, and the spinach and artichoke dip. We all agreed that the charcuterie board was tasty to share and eat with one another, specifically the stagecoach, and the artichoke dip was flavorful. The handheld options, as noted on the menu, were dry and on the bland side. At the end of the night, our waiter was considerate enough to bring a complimentary cake for us to celebrate the special occasion. That was a nice surprise, initially! if you look at the menu, a special event is also automatically charged 20% gratuity. Seems it would have been more optimal to have chosen a desert on the menu, which were no more than $13. But eh.Overall, we did enjoy the wine options and agreed to visit in the future to share a charcuterie board and have different wine selections. The main plates definitely seemed to range on the high end. But who knows, perhaps they are large portion sizes? I would recommend giving the place a try, but to do your due diligence on this contract of a menu."

They support our community in probably more ways than I even know. But here's one that's meant alot to me... When a high school team makes CIF playoffs or wins, the whole team comes to Route 66 for a party and all a gift. Tonight we happened upon Taco Tuesday. Hubby jumped at the Asada Fries, which were ample, tasty and tender steak, yummy chipotle over crispy fries. My fish tacos were divine. Light fluffy batter perfectly fried fish was just what I hoped for and for $5.99! I enjoyed one of my granddaughter's light baster fried chicken tenders. Couldn't ask for more! Thank you, Route 66, for lots of great meals, fun monthly car shows and for supporting our families and kids!"

"This place has really great food.I had taken my friend Lucas and his wife Tanya here the weekend following her birthday for lunch.I told them that they could order what ever they wanted.We each ordered a different type of cheese burger and with fries and we got an extra order of onion rings and we each ordered ice tea, this place was packed out. We showed up around 2:30 in the afternoon, if I would have been spending the night we would have came latter for dinner and ribs.It was my first time coming here and I was happy with my experience.The place is sorta loud, but at least everyone there was having a great time.The cheese burger that I ordered, I had gotten avocado and bacon on it besides all the other fixings. I was stuffed by the time I had finished eating and I had about a three hour drive back home. Probably two people could share a meal there if you are not a big eater.I highly recommend this place to others when you are in Lake Isabella or Kernville."

We ordered the California chicken; juicy piece of chicken, loaded with sprouts, bacon, avocado , pepper jack cheese and pesto basil aloli. Upgraded the fries to garlic fries and glad we did. They were delicious and plentiful to share. Also ordered a build your own burger - juicy patty .... Got all the toppings on it that don't cost extra. Freshly made to order; so be prepared for a little wait. It doesn't sit under a light like McDonald's; so patience is a must. Combo comes with crinkle cut fries and a soft drink. No carbonation at the soft drink machine .... Please fix this ... no one wants to drink flat soda. There should be a sign at the counter ; letting you know ahead of time ... so you can decide if you really want that flat beverage to sip on. The bar is busy ; the drinks made by the bartenders are good and reasonable . Ordered a sex on the beach drink, was very good .there is outdoor space to hangout at when weather permits. Place can get super packed in the evenings and on weekends. Go earlier before the crowd. Good place for big parties ; kid friendly. Clean bathrooms. High chairs for kids."

One vehicle was ahead of me in the drive-thru, and it did not take too long before I was at the window receiving my order. Service was pleasant as well.Arrived home to try my meal. Order was correct. Cheeseburger and fried zucchini were both hot and fresh. Nothing special about the meal. Burger was good as well as the fried zucchini. Overall, though, the experience was not as good as other Mom and Pop burger joints in town. Prices were a bit high compared to the competition especially if you compare portion size.Next time, I'll have to try their shakes. They have happy hour specials for them."

We lingered around the bar and lucky for us, there was a cancellation so we were seated right away! After being on trails all day snacking on trail mix and the like, we were ravenous. I had a bowl of chili which came with all the fixings. It was pretty decent and a good value. The onion rings were also a good deal and came with a yummy chipotle dipping sauce, also recommend. It's a cute little place with a nearby outdoor fireplace perfect for enjoying a drink. In terms of price and quality, it's not bad for being in the middle of a giant desert within a national park."

They have chairs, tables and linens at the venue and it's all included in the venue price. It's such a great space! You have to order food and drinks from the venue (can't bring your own) but everything was affordable and tasted good. The venue is naturally super cute so you don't need to decorate too much!"
