I've been wanting to try this place for a minute... And I finally got the opportunity to do so. The restaurant closes at 6 PM and I walked in around 4:30. There wasn't much activity going on and it was on a Friday. The place is fairly large and has a lot of seating area. The tables are laid out as long tables so it gave a very cool communal vibe. The decor inside was a mix of Greek decor and antiques. When I took a closer look, I noticed that they were stickers with prices on the antiques. It's kind of cool that they sell some things in their shop.It took a moment for anyone to notice that I was there as I imagine they were probably cleaning up for the day in the back. When someone finally noticed the ordering was quick. The man that took my order was very professional and patient being that it was my first time there.I ordered two Chicago style gyros, fries, soft drinks, and baklava. While while I waited for my take away, I sat down and enjoyed the baklava. The baklava was very rustic meaning it was a large portion, and the pastry layers were very buttery and flaky, and had a good amount of syrup. The nut filling was delicious. It was perfectly prepared and not overbearingly sweet which I loved.I looked around and noticed a lot of cool things in that place, and I really like the eclectic decor and vibe. I'm sure during the lunch rush. The place is packed with locals enjoying a quick meal. It seems like the restaurant also caught the attention of of Guy Fieri! There was an autograph sign framed and hung on the wall just above the beverages. Now let's get to the food. I would have liked to have eaten the food at the restaurant however I needed to get home, and although I was a good 20 minutes from home, the food was still delicious. The gyro was packed with meat, tomato, and other stuff that I didn't even notice because I inhaled it. The tzatziki sauce was delicious. It was neither too salty or tart. The french fries were delicious. I am not sure what they were seasoned with but they had a very good taste in texture. I've had gyros in Chicago and this one reminded me of the ones I used to eat while I was there.I will definitely go back and try other things. The restaurant was out of a couple of things and the person taking my order and mentioned that they had a very busy weekend and catering orders so they were trying to catch up and restock their kitchen. Enjoy!

Best Greek food in town! I really love Mediterranean food... and Athenas flavors are on point! I love that my plate is always Fresh, flavorful, the meat is seasoned well and is tender. Today i ordered a chicken skewer and my wife got a steak skewer. Both were 10/10. I chose rice as my side but you can choose from greek potatos, fries , or more salad. The salad is really yummy too. It comes with lettuce , feta, tomatos, cucumber, and olives. As for the atmosphere, its a very chill laidback spot in the downtown area of bakersfield. You order at the front and they bring the food out to you. Theres always delicious baklava available and peanut butter pie in their desert case. (I always have to take some to-go). Definitely come try this place if you haven't already. It was on Triple D for a reason!

I ordered the Chicken Gyro Melt, Greek Lemon Potatoes, and Side Mini Salad. The Chicken Gyro Melt itself was pretty good the chicken tasted good other than that it didn't stand out much but what really stood out the most was the green sauce and potatoes. The green sauce was amazing and spicy. I really enjoyed the greek lemon potatoes. I will be coming back to try something different with the same sides!

When I saw that Guy Feiri had been here for DDD, I knew I had to come check this place out. As a true lover of all mediterranean food, I knew this was right up my alley. Super happy that I did come by and check it out today. Stopped by for an early dinner at 4pm and place wasn't busy at all. Got helped right away which was a plus for me. Great menu, a good variety and there was several items I want to try. But for today I decided to go with the beef souvlaki and it was a 10 out of 10. It came with bell peppers and onions which where a fantastic touch. Also has a great salad and fries. Plate will cost you $19 bucks but it is very worth it considering the portion and the tremendous amount of flavor that dish has. The Baklava here is hands down one of the best I've had. A 12 out of 10 in my opinion. It was so fresh and the strong taste of cinnamon is amazing. A MUST if your enjoy eating baklava. Overall this place is legit and packed with flavor. Make sure you check them out if your in the downtown area. You defenitly won't regret eating here like me today. Till next time Athena's.

Food is decent - i went for a traditional gyro but it was light on tzatziki sauce which is my everything. Simple dining, order at counter and they deliver to your table. A variety drinks including coffee and soda stations are self service.

2nd time stopping at Athena's on the way back home from San Diego. Bakersfield folks are lucky to have this delicious gyro meat in their city. I've had the gyro melt twice and it's delicious! Good service and very chill atmosphere on weekday afternoons. Great selection. Can't wait to get back on the 99S to visit Athena's again soon.

This restaurant was recommended by Guy Fieri. It was on his show Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. When he came he had the stuffed cabbage leaves with lemon sauce and braised beef on pasta. I was hoping to try those 2 dishes but, they weren't on the menu. The place closes at 6pm. We arrived at 5:30pm. The customer service was impressive. We asked what they recommend and they said the Gyro and Platter. We ordered one of each and they were superb. I highly recommend this place.

We split the mixed Soulvlaki plate. One pork, one chicken skewer. There is plenty of food here. It comes with a side. We got French fries, but there was rice or potatoes offered. Plus a salad and pita. It was lunchtime busy, but the service was good. They make the food fresh, so I give them a little more time. The food was flavorful. It's a clean and airy restaurant. A good place for your lunchtime stop.
