Al Huwda Market

This little mom and pop halal market is our go to spot in Bakersfield for middle eastern groceries and custom butchered meats. We love goat, and goat tends to be hard to find. The goat here is young kid and delicious. The shopkeeper is always friendly and helpful. For those that smoke (we don't ) they have a large selection of shisha. We highly recommend Al Huwda. They are tiny but have a huge heart and great service.

Went in looking for goat, but decided to buy some lamb instead. They had leg of lamb, shanks and shoulder roasts. I asked if they had chops and was told they would cut some from the shoulder. Those were the best lamb chops I have ever had, and I have been eating lamb for over 40 years. So tender, so juicy and no mutton after taste at all. Also bought a few shanks which I plan on cooking for Thanksgiving. Store was clean and didn't smell AT ALL! Most meat markets have an 'off' odor, but not here. Sketchy neighborhood, but well worth the trip. Will try some goat next time.

We drove from Porterville to be able to find halal meat. The store has a great selection of fresh meat; chicken, beef and lamb. The personal was friendly. We look forward to visit the store again. I highly recommend this store to brothers and sisters looking for halal meat.
