Had an early flight back to Texas and stopped by B&E before checking into a nearby airport hotel. Picked up a generous portion of smoked salmon and it was delicious. The price was right considering the freshness and the quality. So much so I ended up taking most of it back on the 4 hour flight... Wish I would have packed more!! Great service and convenient location

This is a regular spot when going through DesMoines. I HAVE to stop. This is a butcher with the best meat and seafood selection. When you go in ask for a sample of the candy smoked salmon. It's kind of spendy but worth every dime. I never buy less than a pound. Also the "boneless" kalbi ribs on the bbq you will NEVER regret. They are perfect on the bbq. The potato salad is the perfect side. Let me stress again. TRY the candied smoked salmon. They have been in business for I believe over 60yrs. Obviously doing ALOT right.

I love the crew of B & E! I've been buying a turkey and prime rib every holiday season for a last couple of years. I appreciate their customer service and good quality products. Paying more is ok with me because I know I'm buying meats that aren't factory farmed and are raised humanely.

This place is incredible! I love love love that hometown feel that butcher shops give off. It is local love in the meatiest of ways! We had a friends that said they had the best jerky ever and they were not wrong. The jerky is AWARD WINNING and I am not even kidding you, we ordered so many different kinds. Buffalo, Tri - Tip, Salmon, and a few more. The food is fresh, the service was quick and we were in complete road trip mode so having snacks in the backseat that were tasty and local made it even better. The smoked candied salmon was absolutely incredible. I still dream of it. We also purchased a bbq rub that we have been using on EVERYTHING. And also a chili mix that was slow cooker heaven for the holidays right about now!

Love! My recommendation: the Kalbi beef short ribs. They are a hit at BBQ's, a good option for quick but delicious entree', they cook up easy on a grill or even stove top. We've also purchased the candied smoked salmon. It's a delicious addition to an appetizer spread, serve it with cream cheese. Deliciousness!!We just moved to Des Moines and love that were so close. We'll be back again and again!

B & E is my #1 spot for high quality cuts of meat. This is mainly where I go for steak- ribeye and NY are what I usually get. The thick bone-in pork chops are also really good- way better cut than what you'd get at a supermarket. Their freezer section is my favorite part though. I like to cook liver (and onions and add in a side of some red bell peppers too), and this place is always stocked. I used to get the regular beef liver, but now I pay extra to get the veal liver. The margin for error for liver is slim, but if it's done right, the veal liver has a more buttery overall texture. I come in quite often to pick up whatever I feel like cooking. The people that work here are super nice and always fun to talk to. I'm always satisfied with my purchases here.

The "did you try B & E? They have everything" you might pay a few Pennie's more but the quality can't be beat. Staff friendly and great. s

A longtime family tradition has been shattered! B&E Meats has cheaped out and no longer offers smoked Pacific salmon. It's farmed Atlantic salmon, which is fed genetically engineered soy pellets, engineered to resist roundup, which it is fully saturated with and the salmon flesh absorbs this chemical. B&E can give me any reason why that they want that they switched but I have NO DOUBT it all boils down to cost.Stop being so cheap and bring back wild Pacific smoked salmon!!! At the very least give customers the option!

I love this place. Great meats and fish AND OYSTERS! Not to mention excellent employees! They are always so helpful and knowledgeable, and they are friendly, never balk at my (yes, sometimes stupid) questions. I love their frozen selection, also. It's really nice to have frozen meatballs on hand for an unplanned, quick, easy dinner. GET THE ORA SALMON WHILE THEY STILL HAVE IT!!!

Love their smoked salmon and candied salmon. I'm not from the area but always pick up salmon when I am. Service is good and the staff is great. Always buy more than I planned, but hard to resist
