As a vegetarian who used to love sushi, I really appreciate this place. First, it is bright, clean, and spacious. The servers are super nice and stay on top of refilling your water cups. They're quick, there was a time I didn't even notice they had refilled my drink.I ordered all the vegetarian rolls, of which there are 3. These rolls are bigger than the standard sushi roll you can order. This is great because with less protein the veggie options tend to be less filling so you order more. Every roll was delicious. No, they were DELICIOUS. The Vegetable Tempura Roll was crispy and tasty. My dining companion said it was her favorite. I let her eat several of them because I could not eat all of this on my own. The Green Land Roll was light and refreshing, but again so many giant pieces made it pretty filling. The Vegetarian Roll was wrapped in cucumber and was a snappy delight. I think about these rolls often and am excited to come back for more Green Land and to try something else.

Great dinner spot. Everyone is so friendly. Love the sashimi! It's the bomb. They do a ton of take out so sometimes it's a little slow but definitely worth the wait.

Despite recommendations from friends, Yanagi is hands down the worst I've had in Austin.. The sake/salmon Nigiri was spoiled, the ginger dressed garden salad was probably sitting in the refrigerator for several days because the lettuce had already started to rot and the seaweed used to make the spicy roll was BROWN? Decided to throw everything out.. do yourself a favor and go to Nanami on Brodie instead.

Where have I been? Just now trying this place. Ordered a spider roll to go for lunch and it was outstanding. Fresh ingredients, packed with flavor and packaged well. I'll be back to dine in and order more food. I am happy when I find another sushi place in town to enjoy.

My partner and I arrived at 11:15 AM and we're the 1st group in. They probably do a thorough cleaning in the morning because it definitely smelled like cleaning chemicals. The staff was welcoming and attentive. We ordered a chirashi bowl and beef bento box. The bento box ($15) comes with miso soup, salad, tempura, and 4 pieces of California roll. Definitely bang for your buck! It was so good. The sashimi pieces in the chirashi bowl ($19) was fresh, perfectly cut, and plentiful, There are many lunch combinations offered at a great price. We'll definitely be coming here more often.

The decor at Yanagi is pleasant enough, but it has a strip-mall feel and certainly doesn't match the superior level of the food served there. That said, the less-than-stellar decor may be what allows them to provide a wide variety of very good Japanese food at more-than-reasonable prices. I've eaten here many times, and my favorite appetizers are the Spicy Edamame (steamed edamame dressed with toasted, chopped garlic in a spicey sauce), Tuna (or Salmon) Tower, Tempura, and Agedashi Tofu (fried tofu with tempura sauce). I could honestly make a meal out of the appetizers! I usually share several appetizers and rolls with friends and leave full and happy. Yanagi does a brisk take out business and, if it's still available (couldn't locate it online), their lunch specials are unbelievable! Huge bento boxes with various choices of proteins, rice, salad, and I can't recall what else. Depending on the protein, in the $15-$20 range. So good!
