This was our first time eating here. We're relatively new to the La Vernia area. My overall impression was that this place is quaint. The food is OK, the staff is friendly, prices are very reasonable and the service is SLOW. I would say their specialty is fried stuff. My fried porkchop was great but everything else was not bad but nothing special if that makes sense. My husband got the bbq plate and it was nothing to write home about but not too bad. It was busy, it seemed like people around here like this place as it's been here forever. Not sure if we'd go back because the service is so slow. I think they might be understaffed in the back which I can't fault them too harshly for. If you find yourself in La Vernia, it's an OK place to eat.

This place has been existing for 30-40 years, (maybe longer) which should say enough. Family owned and is what a typical cafe type restaurant is all about. And no it's not comparable to Bohanan's, Ruth Chris or Myron's.. But for a reasonable price it's really great. Service is always good and of course they are busy, so you might have a lil wait. Grilled Pork Chops and the Rib Eyes are extremely flavourful. Just small country cafe that has not changed much since I was a kid and comfortable. Come as you are!

S...L...O...W...and the food was terrible! I believe that is the worst BBQ I've ever had and that is sad to say in TX!

I'd never eaten here in the 5 yrs I've lived in Lavernia. We decided to give it a shot. I can honestly say that this was the worst barbecue I've had. I believe the salt on the meat was my sodium intake for a year. Only saving grace was the friendly young lady at the counter

Waitress never once checked on us after our food came. The baked potato with meat comes with nothing on it other than meat, and not one but 3 pieces of plastic.

Ok so we gave Witte's a 3rd chance and that's the very last time. The food is not good! My brisket sandwich was so salty I couldn't even eat it. Same for my husband's catfish. The potato salad was extremely sour tasting and the squash tasted like nothing. Even the French fries tasted awful and seemed like old frying oil was used. Sorry but that's it for us. Never again. So tired of wasting hard earned money on bad food.

Walk in the waitress didn't even look at me to busy watching wheel of fortune. Sat down waited 15 minutes no one even came by for my drink order. Used the restroom ate some free crackers and got out of there. Ate there before food is not worth the hassle wait. Never go back. Thanks for the free crackers and wiz

Overcooked, bland, tasteless , macaronI and cheese was mush and no cheese, Not for us.
