I finally made it to Whip My Soul, and let me tell y'all--this place is the real deal! From the moment I walked in, the staff welcomed me like family, with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. You can feel the love and care they put into both their food and their service. Now, let's talk about the food--absolute perfection! I had the chicken & waffles, fried gizzards, and a Kool-Aid from their drink station, which was such a nostalgic touch. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The waffles? Light, fluffy, and the perfect balance of sweet and buttery. And those fried gizzards? Chef's kiss! They were cooked just right--crispy, flavorful, and not too tough. This is true soul food, the kind that reminds you of home. I caught myself doing a little happy dance after the first few bites because it was that good. I'll definitely be back, and if you haven't tried Whip My Soul yet, you're seriously missing out!

Every single on the menu is so incredible and flavorful!!! How do they do it?! My family and I love the food and while it can be busy at times especially in Sundays, it is so well worth the wait. The owners are so friendly, warm and welcoming. They make us feel as if we are at their home serving comfort foods that nourishes the body and the soul.Absolute gem!

I would like to review the food, but I ordered over an hour ago and have not gotten the food. I was treated rudely when I asked about my order.Ten minutes after my original one star review we finally got our food. The fried pickles were well seasoned. The egg rolls are good, but after all that wait, the order was wrong. We ordered the collard green egg rolls and the oxtail Mac and cheese egg rolls and received shrimp Mac and cheese egg rolls. The shrimp and grits also very tasty. The food is good but absolutely not worth the wait. We ordered at about 6pm and didn't get it until 7:30.

Whip My Soul is my favorite down home cooking restaurant! Their food is hot, well flavored and good to eat. Last night my husband and I made a late night run to the restaurant. I took pictures as we waiting to place our order in line. However, when the food came it was so good and we were so hungry I forgot to take more pictures. In addition, since I was last there they have changed the layout of the restaurant. It previously had a food bar and that has been removed to add more seating. I like the new layout. The owner and his family are always so super friendly! In fact, they amazing remember you if you are a regular. My husband had his standard...fried wings with mac n cheese and collard greens. I had the fried catfish with greens and sweet potatoes. I really wanted cheesy grits, but they were sold out for the evening.Love us some Whip My Soul!!!

If soul food is your thing, look no further. This is it. This is the closest thing to home cooked I've ever found in a restaurant. I don't even know where to start. Counter service, bus your own table. Place your order at the counter, they call your name. The lady taking our order was very friendly. Honestly she could have said anything to me -- anything at all -- after "yes, we have kookaid in the fountains; yes we have red koolaid" and I'd have followed her anywhere. We sat down and enjoyed the auntie jams of 1989. This was a highlight of my day. Maybe 5-10 mins later, our food was ready. The cornbread: NOT SWEET, praise the sweet baby jeebus. It does have sweet honey butter on it but that is as nature intended. It's fluffy, crumbly and slightly salty. Mac and shrimp eggroll: do they give Nobels for such things? Well they should. Chicken wings: just like granny used to make. Literally. Perfectly light and crispy crust. Fried shrimp: this was the thing that made me say yes five stars This is also where I started sampling off the bf's plate. I don't get down with fish, but he assures me it was pretty good. From what I could see, it was moist and the batter on it was consistent with the batter on the shrimp. The grits were thiccc with 3c's and with possibly more cheese than grit, which is not the worst thing that could happen. The sweet potato was cinnamony and maybe clovey? Super tender, very well cooked. The pork chop was large and juicy but it didn't spoil the breading, which remained crunchy throughout. I ran out of stomach room before I got to the waffle, but I am told that it tastes similar to a beignet. I managed two bites of the mac and cheese before it was time to go. We cleaned up our table and left. Bf says his food was too salty for him but he's from up north. I told him he was welcome to write his own review. He declined the offer. Whether he joins me or not, I'm gonna be back. And then I'm gonna come back with others. And then I'm gonna tell my coworker. And then I'm gonna go back again. Hope they liked seeing me.

My last day in Austin and I was sick of BBQWhip My Soul was on the way to the airport so I decided to check it out with one other person. I love that they had an intensive menu with lots of different options. But they are known for their wings and waffles, oxtail, pork chop, and fish. I shared a 3 wing piece dinner plate that came with two sides. I got onion rings and mac and cheese. The wings were definitely proper wings. They were seasoned perfectly and fried just right. The meat with moist and delicious. It came with some bread. My onion rings were also perfect and the mac and cheese was heavenly. No complaints and we both loved it. The wait wasn't too bad even though it was busy that Saturday. You order at the register first and they call your name when the food is ready. The pricing is affordable. Our 3 piece dinner combo with 2 sides was $23. Not bad. The inside of this place is casual. You get your own drinks. Lots of places for seating. They also do a great job for take out as well.

We were back in Austin and wanted some souls food. We got here at 2 pm on a Saturday and it was packed! That's just how good it is. I stuck with my sample plate of chicken wing, fish, and pork chop. This time the fish tasted fishy to me but my husband loved it! The chicken was excellent! I will be getting more wings next time. We tried the greens eggs rolls and they were delicious! My sides were fried okra and onion rings and hubby had the greens and yams. The staff are very friendly and they had the games on TV to entertain you while you wait.It was all so good! You have to try it.

Whip My Soul is hands down one of the best soul food restaurants in Austin! Every visit is a treat, and the consistency is unmatched--everything is always fantastic. My two go-to dishes are the fried chicken and pork chops. Both are seasoned to perfection, cooked to order, and served piping hot, making them worth every bite. For sides, the collard greens and fried okra are my absolute favorites. They're flavorful, fresh, and the perfect complements to the main dishes. And of course, no meal here is complete without some Kool-Aid. They have all the colors--err, I mean flavors--you could possibly want, adding a fun and nostalgic touch to the experience. The ordering process is simple and efficient. When you walk in, you go through the line to place your order, and they'll call your name when it's ready. The owner is often at the register and always makes you feel welcome with their friendly and inviting demeanor. The restaurant itself has plenty of seating options, including tables and a few booth-like areas. If you're coming with a large group, you should be good to go, as long as it's not too busy.Whether you're craving classic fried chicken, perfectly cooked pork chops, or just some good old-fashioned comfort food, Whip My Soul is a must-visit. It's soul food done right, and I can't recommend it enough!

Always a fun time at whip my soul. This time I got the ox tail egg rolls and a waffle plate with three tenders. The ox tail egg rolls were standouts, the mix between mac and cheese, ox tail, and then the crunch of the egg roll was very good. The plate was also very good as well. The service is counter style where you order and then pick it up yourself. There is a lot of seating and are able to accommodate large party sizes.
