There is a good reason Tonari by Uroko has been nominated for a James Beard award, namely because Chef Masa deserves one! The 45 minute omakase experience was absolutely fantastic. It was quick without feeling rushed. I was just so excited about each offering that I forgot to take pictures. It's not the type of meal you go to super hungry, but if you do you can grab a hand roll next door after. The 12 course are all nigiri, so it's a good meal as long as you're not starving. The main thing is savoring each bite, because they are layered with flavors that all work well together. Chef Masa is happy to accommodate dietary restrictions, and you can let them know when booking if you have any. The ambiance is laid back and intimate with only 6 seats. The room isn't tiny and the seats are nicely spaced so I didn't feel crowded. Chef Masa explains each dish, its origins, and where the fish is from. That makes the experience top notch in my book. Price is reasonable considering the quality of seafood you're getting. I'll be back and you should check it out!

Overall: 3.8/5 [delivery]My husband ordered four hand rolls via Postmates and requested less rice, which he loved. The rolls were a good size and packaged nicely. I took a bite of each to try them, but ultimately, they didn't impress me, and I wouldn't order from here again.Sake Toro ($8.85): This roll included fatty salmon, umami cucumber, avocado, ginger, lemon-miso, and shiso. It tasted like a standard salmon hand roll--good, but I've had fresher salmon elsewhere (though not in Austin).Hama Toro ($8.85): Featuring fatty hamachi, avocado, umami cucumber, shiso, wasabi butter, and crispy quinoa, this was a unique combination. The crispy quinoa paired surprisingly well with the hamachi, making it my favorite of the four.Bluefin Tuna Taku ($9.65): This roll contained bluefin tuna, takuan, cucumber, wasabi-butter, and shiso. Unfortunately, it tasted fishy, and I didn't enjoy it.Marfa ($9.65): Made with tuna, hamachi, avocado, yuzu koshō, cucumber, and shiso, this roll was just okay. It didn't really appeal to me.

We closed out 2024 with a delightful dinner at Uroko, snagging two seats thanks to a last-minute cancellation on a Saturday night. So glad we were able to do an Uroko omakase one last time before the hustle and bustle of the holidays.Chef Masa and sommelier Naoto were wonderfully interactive, adding a warm and personal touch to the evening. The bites were as delicious as ever, each one a testament to the skill and care that defines Uroko. I opted for the 3-sake pairing, and it was absolutely worth it--great selections that perfectly complemented the meal.Parking is always a breeze, and the efficient service meant we were in and out in just 45 minutes. A perfect treat to cap off the year! Highly recommend.

Got the Hama toro hand roll and it was ok. There was not a lot of meat in the roll, it was mostly rice and it kind of overwhelmed the other flavors in the roll!!

I am obsessed with hand rolls, so I was so excited to find this spot right next to the Medici I frequent. The menu is delicious and reasonably priced. Even though it seemed pretty busy, I got my order quickly in a thoughtfully packaged container (I got it to go). It's a cute little space that opens up to a larger area with other retail spots. Can't wait to try one of their classes or omakase.

Very great friendly staff. The food here was very fresh and delicious. The frozen matcha latte was delicious. Very cool and refreshing and not too sweet. Good matcha flavor. The potato croquette was also very yummy. Tasted almost like fried mashed potatoes. Good texture. The unagi cheese was my favorite roll. Good flavor and texture but I wish there was more eel.The sake toro roll also had very fresh fish. Good balance of flavors and textures but it was missing something that would push it to the next level.

I recommend getting their specials over their other items on the menu. I got one of their special hand-roll that had salmon, scallop, and uni throughout the roll and it was only $11 for all of that. Everything was delicious and affordable. My one critique is that for their salmon hand-roll, they did not fill the salmon throughout the roll. It was only 3 slices at the top. They should have place it throughout the roll too because it's not worth jt to just eat seaweed and rice for the rest of the roll. I heard that their omakase is great! I haven't had a chance to try it but will update my review when I do.
