Urban Wine + Liquor

Located in the heart of downtown Austin a few blocks from the Colorado river, Urban Wine & Liquor can adequately satisfy all of your adult beverage needs. I recently got a hotel room when my girlfriend said she wanted to get a bottle of wine for our room. Well, I'm not sure how many people would prefer to pillage the mini-fridge or order several glasses of wine from the bar but I preferred a cheaper option. The area is extremely safe to traverse on foot so don't worry about that. Walking in the staff are extremely friendly and eager to assist. Now do they have the largest selection of alcoholic beverages or some prolific yet harder to find labels? No, but they have enough of the best-selling names to meet most demands. There refrigerator selection is very limited meaning don't expect a less popular white wine or champagne to be readily chilled. I know the store has other amenities however I didn't explore them so I can't speak on those. That said, I live in Kyle therefore, I'll won't be visiting on a regular basis. However, if I'm downtown and need an adult beverage store on the fly I can shop with full confidence they'll have what I need. I highly suggest visiting them if you live downtown or just passing through.

This store is conveniently located downtown and walkable for residents, visitors and office workers (like myself). As stated in previous reviews, there is a slight difference in pricing (a bit more than Specs) but that's to be expected due to its location. Nonetheless, the store has a nice selection of spirits and wine, and the clerk/owner was super pleasant upon checkout.Overall solid experience - I do recommend.

Nice, quaint store in a great location. Not an overwhelming selection but definitely had all the staples needed. Prices little more than what you might find at a total wine or specs, but still reasonably. Not grossly inflated.. walking distance from the hotel we stay at for work so i will definitely use them again! Staff was friendly also

I can't comment on prices (although I did buy a novelty item and felt it was reasonable) I didn't buy any alcohol.Buck (clerk/owner?) was extremely friendly and spent a longer than expected talking the local music scene with me as my friend shopped. He did comment that it was rare for him to be able to chat (because, work) but I'm glad I caught him when I did. Clean shop, nice atmosphere.

Wanted some tequila, ended up not getting! I tried to engage with Buckley - with no luck. Tried multiple questions and all responses were one word, short borderline rude. Made my time as enjoyable as driving south bound Mopac(Palmer to 360) during a Friday 5pm rain storm. :(JH

I don't think I've ever had so much fun shopping for vices - sure, it's great fun consuming 'em but who knew buying bottles could be so interesting?The shop's owner, Buckley, comes from a restaurant and food writing background making him a very knowledgeable guy to chat up. He's also very passionate about food and beverage pairings and is happy to wax poetic should you need some direction.As for the store - I love the way it's laid out. The aesthetic is so clean, down to how much room the bottles have on the shelves. It makes for such attractive presentation! Whether you're hunting down fancy liqueurs, the most sophisticated of scotch, craft beer or that obscure bottle of wine, Buckley will quickly acquaint you with your poison of choice.I was so impressed that they stock Croatian wine as I've had a really tough time locating it here in Austin. Ever since my parents' favorite European wine shop closed in St. Louis, my family has run into difficulty sourcing their favorite Balkan wines. Luckily, I found Urban Wine + Liquor right before a trip back to my hometown and I was able to connect my family with a precious bottle! Instant hero status? You know it.

Friendly staff, great selection and directly across from where we were staying (JW Marriott). They even had samples. Who doesn't like free tastings?! What a fun job. Met the owner. Great guy. If / when we come back, we know where to go! :)

Urban Wine + Liquor has a fantastic selection of local spirits. Located in the heart of downtown, it's so easy to stop by after work for a bottle of wine (or snag a bourbon for your desk). Highly recommend this shop, and while they are a little pricier, there's an above-and-beyond robust selection of local tequilas, vodkas I had never seen before, as well as an abundant list of bourbon, whiskey, and scotch.Grab one of the mini Texas-shaped bottles of tequila for your friends and fam back home. The gentleman who runs the shop is an encyclopedia of knowledge of booze.
