Not sure what's happening with this place based upon reviews but went there to discover an amazing ambience, impeccable service, interior Mexican cuisine, and yes, stiff but well constructed Margaritas. I've never visited Tulum, Mexico to know whether a restaurant should be named the same as beach town south of Playa de Carmen, but it was great for lunch. The menu includes a wide range of traditional and interior Mexican dishes and so extensive it will certainly satisfy all. From queso, cerviche, quesadillas, stuffed jalapeños. Nachos, and really great guacamole. I had the chili con queso and guacamole and both were outstanding and chips were some of the best. I tried the enchiladas pollo en mole which was served hot, plenty of mole with fresh refried beans. The mole was very excellent, savory, and complex. I do highly recommend it compared to other restaurants. At first, thought beans were bland but come to appreciate a restaurant making their own and was a good compliment along with rice to the mole sauce. Also ordered the green verde enchiladas which only had two but was very good too. The top shelf skinny Marg was outstanding but their Paloma was too small and seemingly served from a small flower pot. Brunch menu looks good along with their mimosa specials so looking to return. The service was fantastic. The bar and overall interior very upscale. If you can sit by the window, this is the best location. Large patios for larger parties.Lastly, Santa Caterina has a competitor just north on 620 in Hudson Bend.

Ok NGL- I was excited about going to this place despite the recent reviews! BUT WHY did I decide to go against the reviews?? UGH! I tried to be nice. I tried to look to the positive side & give them a try! BUT WHY?! $90 later & now I'm like - I work hard for my money ! This restaurant didn't! The only reason this establishment is getting a star- is b/c of Ricky! He was the only waitstaff there- taking orders, serving drinks & bussing tables! Not sure what else- but for sure those tasks b/c I witnessed him w/ my own eyes! The $30 fajitas for ONE-$30! WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!!! Did you read - HO-R-R-I-B-L-E! ALL I tasted was NOTHING! Just chewed the beef. NO FREAKING FLAVOR! NO SALT ! NO PEPPER! NOTHING!!!!!!! The onions weren't even grilled! $30!!!! Can you believe that! I work hard for my money and at least this restaurant should care about what their customers deserve. NOTICE- the small amnt of beans/rice- the cheapest item & can't even give you a full scoop! By the way they weren't tasty either!Queso was decent. Salsa- skip! Tomato sauce- chili flakes and garlic/onion powder. Nothing else. Top shelf marg- GREAT! $14.But still couldn't make up for the meal I wasted my money on! Maybe the owners should put in some time in this establishment & not rely on staff to make the money for them. Shame on you! Not returning FOR SURE! By the way- only 3 tables were occupied- this should have been a HUGE red flag! Two bar areas & zero ppl at the bar... hmmmm... ADIOS AMIGOS!PS- normally fajitas come out sizzling HOT- NOPE not here! Nothing was sizzling about anything here-as you can tell

So sad. This place used to be amazing. I see now why their doors were closed for a while...their cooks must've quit. I ordered what used to be my favorite thing on the menu & it didn't even have all of the ingredients listed. The service & current chef did as best they could with what they have, but it was obvious that the establishment is trying to save money any way they can. The quality of the steak used in the quesadillas is chewy & terrible. The owner is doing everything they can to save money & it is going to cost them their restaurant.

We walked in with a party of 8. No one was there but 2 tables. We asked for a table outside for 8 and the lady rolled her eyes and started slamming the menus together. When I asked for a kid's menu as well she looked at me like I'm wasting her time and we walked out how she was treating me.

I really enjoyed the restaurant. The food was good. I would say the black beans need some more salt and pepper in them. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. The service was good.

So bad, overpriced food and drinks. Food was nothing to write home about. Either step up the quality or lower the prices.

A first rate upscale Mexican restaurant. An absolutely welcome addition to the Hunter's Bend scene.Fish tacos with big thick wonderful tranches of fish Served with first rate flour tortillas, a tremendous green sauce, and good other garnishes.(Hey, cilantro is cilantro.)First rate chips I could not stop eating.A red salsa that I could easily stop eating -But hey - something has to go on those chips.Until I figured that nothing had to go on the chips and The chips immediately vaporized into my mouth. But the headline story still is the fish taco which is one of the best fish tacos in Metro Austin.Note - that they appear to be having major problems with DirectTV.I think there was a billing problem - which I suspect on a new restaurant has less to do with actually paying one's bills and more to do with screw-ups at the cable company. That said, they would have been wise to just turn off the TVs altogether.Things that don't work have a bad effect on customer experience. But the rooms are nice, the service is great and the food is everything I would want from "better than a food truck" Mexican.Thumbs up.* * *Note that my review is more enthusiastic than those of other Yelpers.A few comments.a) They are on soft opening. So there is a clear learning process that is in progress.I had one server who genuinely seemed stumped and puzzled about everything. My other server was first rate.Training will solve this one.b) There are LOTS of complaints about the bar.I didn't drink. If you are going to drink, you may want to stick to tequila shots for a while.c) Fajitas are controversial.d) I disagree with the other patrons about the tortillas. Mine were excellent and were first rate for what I wanted them for.e) I ate inside but some people complain about being outside. I am not sure how solid the outside seating complaints are. The next door neighbor bar has a million people outside and they seem happy. I actually arrived at the Tulum by foot, so I know exactly what it was like outside. Outside was pretty nice when I was there. That said, training the servers, getting the mix-mastering right, and working out the fight with DirectTV would seem to be high priorities here.Everything else is working nicely.I intend to come back.

I visited on opening day but held off on the review to be fair however after experiencing some of the same issues today I feel compelled to write this review in the hopes that they will get their act together. Bar drinks: took forever to get 2 drinks. top shelf marg is too sweet, not balanced, lacks the acid component. Food: 2 of the 4 entrees ordered by our party were cold. Not just lukewarm, but literally cold. The rice and beans on 1 other plate were also cold and lacked salt and seasoning. The chili relleno is not grilled (per the menu) but heavily battered and bland. Not much chicken. Beef enchilada was average. The only good thing was the table side salsa. Service: I can't fault them because they are understaffed, but it also feels like there is lack of training or cohesive plan in seating and assigning tables to staff. Sadly we will not return for a while. I'm hoping they will improve over time. We need good well-run restaurants here.

I'd hate to give a 1 star.... Gf and I wanted to get out and planned on going somewhere else but with traffic is was too far, so we decided to stay close and have been meaning to try Tulum for a while, the menu looked good. Left feeling like we should've just drove the hour to our original plan. GF and I just wanted to go for happy hour. I will say the waitress was kind, and the food wasn't terrible which saved it from a 1 star. No plans of returning unfortunately. We ordered a coconut marg, and a house marg, quesadilla with chicken added, and barbacoa tacos. After a few minutes the waitress comes back and lets us know they didn't have the coconut mix, wasn't a big deal to us. Only 5 other people there, our drinks took close to 10 minutes to come out, still not a big deal. My margarita tasted like a really really dirty martini...We finished the cilantro/jalapeño dip and asked for a refill, waitress left and came back to let us know they were out... Odd but okay. About 10 more min go by and I'm informed they're out of barbacoa... alright...my gf and I don't get upset easily, but this started to be demoralizing lol. Then my gfs quesadilla comes out, it has chicken, but has loads of onions, peppers, and mushrooms, which wasn't indicated anywhere. It was just $2 for chicken. She tried to pick everything off but it wasn't worth it, I ended up eating 5/6 slices for her. Really bummed, seems like this place is on the way out judging by other comments. Random hours, out of quite a few standard/important things. I really hope they can turn it around and make it.
