The building is over a century old and designed in a traditional German architectural style, which gives it a unique charm. It's also a Kansas City Chiefs bar, complete with a signed Mahomes photo and a Kelce jersey. The upstairs has a cozy, attic-like atmosphere, ideal for relaxing or playing board games. The biggest surprise, though, was the food. I tried the jalapeño ranch brisket wedge salad, which was substantial, with rich, flavorful brisket and a generous serving. Service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. I'm glad I finally stopped by--this place is a gem!

Stopped here with a friend after leaving Pease Park. I ordered the Tex mex burger and sweet potatoes fries which came to a total of $16.24. The food was fine, but the service was slow and rude, we wanted our check and the server took 30 minutes to check on us so we closed out at the bar. The place was mostly empty besides a few people watching a soccer game.

Came to The Tavern to watch a Texas Football game. It was very hot and muggy in the restaurant there is not good AC or air circulation due to the age of the building. However, they have tons of TV screens which is good for watching sports. We sat at a table in the bar area and had drinks and appetizers. The bar was able to make me a few mezcal margaritas and the drinks we a good value and tasty for the price. We had appetizers while watching the game including the pretzel with cheese and stone ground mustard which was served warm and was a good bar snack with appropriate dipping sauces. Also has the potato skins served with cheese, bacon, chives and sour cream and were a good texture. Overall, I think this historical establishment is a great place to watch sporting events and enjoy cocktails and bar snacks. Could use some improvements to air circulation and temperature in the hot Texas summer.

This is such a cool spot! The food was delicious--even the chicken fried steak, which I usually don't like, was fantastic. The staff was friendly and attentive, especially the new guy who mentioned he started just a couple of weeks ago. The creepy little girl in the mirror added a unique and fun touch. I'd definitely come back!

Always an amazing place, but manager Jane made sure our group was made to feel extra welcome, like she always does. Tonight she suggested special Shark Week fish tacos which were super on point. An essential Austin classic that is firing on all cylinders.

I used to go often because of a few good bartenders but lately the service there has sadly declined. Good sweet potato fries though!
