The Soup Peddler

First time trying The Soup Peddler and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has an assortment of choices...smoothies, grilled cheese sandwiches and of course, soups! I got a small strawberry banana smoothie and turkey and rice soup. I love smoothies and I was especially taken by the robust flavor of my smooth without the eye-squinting sweet taste...yum!!! My soup from the cup looked a bit oily, but that was deceptive because when I ate it was smooth as silk. The tomatoey flavor was rich and flavorful. It reminded me of a cuban soup I had in Miami.The Soup Peddler on Far West Blvd. has a small amount of seating inside and more seating outside. On a sunny day like today, it would be pleasant to sit outside.My cashier was very friendly and helpful with my choices. Looking forward to returning and trying more items...

Always love my vegan GF grilled cheese and green detox broth soup. This location is really small with some high barstools inside. There is seating outside. Definitely a great spot to get your food to go.

The Soup Peddler was one of my favorite spots when I was younger, but now I just make my soup, smoothies and sandwiches at home. However, if you're looking to buy soup, smoothies, or sandwiches, The Soup Peddler would be one of the top businesses I'd recommend! I'd even recommend their smoothies over the other smoothie business we all know of. My favorite sandwich was the grilled meunster with green apple slices.

Okay, the first word that comes to mind.... QUALITY!I am reviewing their food items, so will come back for the smoothies soon, as I recognized those were far more popular than the food options (while I was there).Starting with the tomato basil soup, my photo doesn't do the food justice, but you can just tell the high quality effort they put into this soup. It is not over compensated by heavy cream or tomato paste. You can SEE all of the beautiful seasonings and vegetable delights in the soup. It is bursting with basil, tomato, and onion flavors. Consistency is a bit on the thinner, "organic" side, so if you like Campbells tomato soup and soups extra creamy I would not recommend this for you. I got the basil provolone grilled cheese and it was an incredible pairing with my tomato soup! They use Tullamook cheese and it just oozes out of the sourdough bread like magic. Nice and buttery and you can totally tell the pesto is made in house too. (I think?)10/10 would recommend for a hearty, warming lunch. I am excited to try their smoothies for an on-the-go lunch next time!

I used to order at the South location weekly ten years ago when I lived there. I've only recently started to go back to the Soup Peddler. This time, they have vegan cheese, which they didn't have a decade ago. Their gluten-free vegan grilled cheese is addicting as it reminds me of the texture of Kraft American cheese singles I grew up on as a child. I'm happy that they offer golden mylk, though I wished it was a little sweeter. I like the golden milk at Juiceland more.

Since the food is to-go I didn't tip the standard rate and I felt it showed in my soup scoop. Super tasty but I know there should definitely have been more veggies. Although those guys behind the counter are running the whole show so I can almost understand.

Based on one visit for takeout tomato soup, I can't wait to go back! I remembered the origin story, and couldn't believe the Far West location has been here since March! I easily ordered via the Toast app, was greeted with a smile when I arrived, and my perfect soup was ready early. Choice of croutons, crackers (gratis) or bread (surcharge). Judging from the soup, the bread is worth every penny, just like the soup. Oh - the soup. You know how tomato basil soup is always loaded with heavy cream? This one is piquant, with rich texture and not even a whiff of dairy anywhere in its savory goodness. I wonder whether I can live on soup?

My favorite go to place for a quick lunch. Love the Peanut Butter smoothie!! The owner was my neighbor in south Austin and peddled his soup on a bicycle. The menu is extensive featuring soups and salads. Staff is always great. Don't be surprised if there's a line out the door Saturday morning. Best time to go is around 11:00 am.
