Smokin' Rose Taco Truck, parked behind Latchkey Bar on East 6th, is a solid choice if you're craving Tex-Mex with some personality. I always go for the taco bowls, where any taco can be turned into a filling bowl version. They're packed with flavor and super satisfying--definitely not your average Tex-mex fare. The lady who usually is working there is super friendly, and she remembers me even though I only go there once every couple months. The vibe from Latchkey adds a nice laid-back energy, perfect for enjoying a meal outdoors. It's a great spot whether you're out for a casual meal or just need something hearty after a few drinks at the bar.

It's a rare instance when I don't need any salsa on my taco but the potatoes on the Papas (Vegan) Taco are so fiercely-flavored that I didn't even need the salsa. And for that alone, they deserve a respectable ranking on my list. The smokey potatoes truly do serve as quite a satisfying "meat" for the taco. The flour tortillas are great. I recommend adding both cheese and avocado to this otherwise vegan taco. [Ranked as #44 on my taco list of 140 locations AustinTacoMojo.com]

Ok y'all, who doesn't love a food truck and bar pairing?!Katie B and I recently went to Latchkey to have yet another nightcap bevvie and we decided it was time to grab some food so whilst at Latchkey, we decided to order a few items. Me being on a "See Food" Diet, decided it couldn't hurt to taste a few items alongside our Electric Jellyfish IPAs.We went with the Mexican corn dogs, chips and queso, and al pastor street tacos. The al pastor was so tender and flavorful! I loved how they actually had grilled pineapple on it. Makes a big difference tbh. The chips and queso was solid and another great rec by Katie B of course. What really stood out to me though was the nostalgia of the Mexican corn dogs and what I had as a child. A simply dish but if done incorrectly can really make you give a sour face. It's super easy to over burn them or make them too dry, but I was smiling like a ten year old at grandma's house. I'll definitely place another order again when I'm back at Latchkey!

Dropped by this taco truck late night with hubby because he was hungry. I wasn't really all that hungry. Since we were cautioned that the portion sizes were huge, we ordered only one taco for him. After having a tiny taste of the puerca roja taco, I didn't want to give him back his food. I don't remember when I last had a taco that blew me away like this. So we ended up also ordering a carne taco and a loaded queso. The loaded queso is one good queso. The salsas that came with the tacos also were unique and had a great kick to them.

I can certainly recommend the smoking rose taco joint, but not with the same enthusiasm as I do many of my other reviews. If you want an experience that is directly attached to a bar, called the Latchkey, full of University of Texas students, then this is the place for youAs for the food itself, my wife and I both got the taco plate with beef tacos and Borracho beans. Tacos had some zip to them, and the shell was honestly the best part of the taco and that does not take away from the meat. The rice was good, but I could've done without the beans. This was a tasty treat, but going shoulder-to-shoulder with students for the first time in 30 years detracted from the overall experience. Plus I figured out that I do not like Lonestar beer.

If I could give zero starts I would. This was in the back of latchkey and the owners are very rude and bad business owners.I found a dead fly in my food and the owner told me get the fuck over it and just deal with it.Not only was I uncomfortable it's was a disgusting situation.I got a refund and would never come and support them.Run far away from this trash food truck that's my advice!

I am honestly shocked by the owner Scott. His wife Katie was precious but Scott is the rudest, most unprofessional person I've met. I simply asked if the sauce needed to be refrigerated because the jars didn't seem sealed. I bought 3 to have some in the future. He told me to google it??? Then carried on to call me names etc.

Chris and Tre are killing it. It smelled amazing and tasted even better! It was delicious and my friends and I didn't have time for a photo of the food before we ate everything we ordered. I highly recommend the quesadilla!
