It's been a while since I've visited the Salty Donut. The last time I was at the Salty Donut it was pretty much a trailer where you picked up donuts through the "to go" window. It has evolved to a sir down restaurant with a cool modern vibe. Also the cost of the donuts have also expanded. Sometimes you get what you pay for. The cashier highlighted some of The Salty favorites. I tried two of their favorites... Churro & Dulce de Leche donut and assorted donut holes. Dulce de Leche donut was pure perfection...churros consistency on the exterior and dulce de Leche in the center. OMG...so good. The three types of donut holes were a delight to consume - vanilla brioche donut and two cake donuts...Oreo cake and vanilla glazed chocolate cake. Yummy to the nth degree. Important to note, these donuts did not taste greasy or overly sweet. Also the flavors of the donuts harmonized well together.I also had a latte initially. It was pretty strong so I added a caramel flavoring. The latte was smooth and so satisfying.Overall, my stop at The Salty made my day! Highly recommend The Salty donuts...

The first time I tried The Salty Donut was at a Nike Run Club event two years ago at the Domain. I had a churro dulce de leche donut and it was pillowy-soft and delicious. It's also star-shaped. So adorable!I made my first visit to their store with the intention of only getting a hot caffeinated drink but since the long line snakes through the store, you're left staring at the trays of freshly glazed and decorated donuts behind a glass case just begging you to take them home. So I caved and ordered a brown butter salted donut and a vanilla bean latte. Brown butter makes everything instantly delicious and a sprinkling of salt amplifies the flavor. My vanilla bean latte was delicious. When I got home I had to reheat it in the microwave (please don't judge me!) And I was pleasantly surprised to see actual vanilla bean seeds floating around. It smelled amazing! While I do love their donuts and drinks, they are quiet pricey: between $4 to $6 for one donut! Also, the line was really long and moved super slow. The single cashier seemed oblivious and carried on her personal conversation with the woman in front of me and her coworkers.

My friend and I had dinner nearby and decided to get our dessert from The Salty Donut afterwards--great idea! We arrived about 30 minutes before closing and was greeted right away. I was pleasantly surprised they still had a good selection of donuts. The Salty Donut offers a fun variety of donuts such as horchata, Texas chocolate sheet cake, gingerbread french toast, and more. They also have a coffee bar. I opted for a mix of donut holes as well as a churro dulce de leche donut. I highly recommend getting a mix of the donut holes to try a variety. The churro dulce de leche donut was also fantastic. It had a creamy filling inside that was not overly sweet. The space is warm and inviting. There's ample seating if you prefer to enjoy your donuts and/or coffee inside!

I had friends visiting from out-of-town so we stopped at the Salty before hitting all the shops on South Congress. As a party of 6, we ordered nearly one of everything. My favorites were the brisket kolache, jalapeño kolache, the pop tart and the traditional donuts. The Apple Cinnabun and Churro donuts were in the mid-range for us and the Cookie Monster and Oreo Cake donuts were let downs for us. (Not pictured is the Horchata donut which my friend said was awesome!)

Love their donuts, they have an espresso machine too so you can pair with a nice coffee drink too. Great location right on soco so you can explore the area too. Cute decor indoors and ample seating inside and outside. Despite a busy morning they crank out the coffee drinks fast. Will continue coming here!

So this is an upscale donut shop off of SoCo in Austin that I so wanted to love but fell short for me. Its a great space and very open and the flavors all seem so great, so maybe I had super high expectations coming in..?Anyway, I tried the candied pistachio white chocolate donut and the Thanksgiving special chocolate pecan pie donut. As someone who loves pistachio desserts, I was super hyped for this donut. Sadly, to me, it just tasted super sweet and white chocolatey with minimal pistachio flavor. It was definitely a soft and light yeasted donut with some nice textural contrast with the candied pistachios but it was very one note to me. Also with my favorite pie being pecan, can't take the southern out of this boy, I sooo wanted to love this chocolate pecan pie donut. It did have a wonderful pecan flavor in the filling but again, it was overly sweet for my tastebuds. I understand these are donuts and maybe cloyingly sweet is what you want but for me personally, I was hoping for a more balanced donut from a donut specialty shop.Perhaps its just my own tastebuds and my thoughts on costs but I was thinking at these price points for a donut, it'd be more like a pastry, sweet but balanced. If you want a fancy donut and a hit of sugar, this is definitely a spot for you to explpre various flavors. I'm down to come back and try other flavors though but not rushing to return any time soon.

OMG holy moly! I love this place! I was out on a bike ride and was craving some dessert, I looked up donut places near me and The salty came up with good reviews. I went to the store on a Tuesday evening at around 5 PM and they were not very busy.I ended up getting three of the donuts because it looked so delicious. I got the seasonal pistachio, the brown butter and the Horchata flavor. All of them are really tasty and flavorful in their own ways, but my favorite was definitely the brown butter donut. The server also mentioned that this is a very popular choice amongst customers. I can't wait to go back and try some more flavors !

This is one of the most amazing donut shops I've set foot in!! The flavors that they have are creative and make sense, these flavors being in donuts!Pumpkin Spice:This donut truly has a pumpkin spice flavor where you could actually taste all of the flavors. The donut was moist and cakey.Horchata:This donut was insane and by far my favorite! The exterior texture of this donut is fabulous, and the inside is moist with an horchata cream and the whip on the top is the perfect touch. I'm glad I don't live in Austin because this place could be a problem!Churro:This donut is adorable and delicious. Very light and crisp on the outside, moist inside with dulce de leche inside.GF Butterscotch:I never thought I'd come across such a fluffy and delicious gourmet gluten free donut. The flavor was the perfect amount of butterscotch, not too sweet, moist, creamy, lovely!None of these donuts felt like mouthful of sugar, they are sweet but not overkill. The inside is spacious and great to meet with friends or have a treat and coffee while catching up on work. The staff is very friendly and made great recommendations. This is a must-do when in Austin!

Lovely little donut shop off S. Congress. Not much parking - but there is a walk up "to go" window on the side. This place is not your corporate bulk stamped donuts - they're a bit more bougie and fancy than that. We had a few donuts and some of the other baked goods:Traditional glazed - a good solid donutHorchata - this one is rich and sweetTexas Chocolate Sheet cake - cakey rich and decadentChurro & Dulce de Leche - star shaped with that churro crisp and goopy insideBrown butter & Salt - if you like a little salt to accentuate sweet - this one is for youDonut holes - probably my favorite - bite sized and yummyWe also had a few of the brisket and the jalapeño and cheese kolaches. They were just ok for me - there are better kolaches out there. I'd probably just stick to the donuts.Donuts were good but definitely needed coffee to go with them because of the richness. They do have some good coffee drinks and some fancy ones but I stuck to plain old Joe.
