I was first drawn to the Salt lick because of the AYCE option. The wait time isn't too bad around 5:30pm, we barely had to wait for a table for 2!We went for the AYCE option, and it was delicious! I didn't care much for the beans. But the potato salad and cole slaw were pretty good. And my favorite of the meats was the brisket. It was so fatty and juicy and delicious! The only thing is that we severely overestimated how much we could eat. I think the AYCE is only really worth it if you're a big eater.

I had never tried real pit style BBQ before, and I've never tried Texas BBQ ever. Being from MO I've had STL and KC styles the most, and a few Memphis places. I hate to admit it, but when it comes to meat I think Texas may be my favorite! The restaurant is set up picnic table style with a rustic feel. The service was great, and our waiter extremely attentive.I knew I wanted ribs, but couldn't decide between the sausage or turkey, the waiter suggested turkey. The ribs were delicious, and their sauces I never tasted before! Not a mustard or typical BBQ sauce base like Missouri, it was just a tad sweet with a hint of spice.I asked if my Turkey was supposed to be cold, and the waiter said no, he immediately brought out some sausages to make up for it then a huge stack of turkey!!! Now that's customer service and making things right! That kind of service alone would make me come back.If you know Missouri BBQ you'll know EVERYTHING is sweet from the meat to the sides. Well the meat was naturally sweet, and their sauces smoke was throughout the entire meat. It was literally the best BBQ I've had!The sides I didn't really care for. The bread was just a giant bun, the beans very bland and the coleslaw also not sweet. I definitely felt the lack of sweetness to break up the flavors. If I was able to mix the Texas smoked meats with KC style slaw, and STL mac and cheese or beans this would be perfect Regardless still a great introduction to Texas style BBQ for me, also seems like a great place to just hang out in general with their giant patio and yard, also the prices were reasonable for the area.

As displaced Texans, we have been looking forward to our holidays because - Saltlick! Family's good but...c'mon y'allCame in on Christmas Eve to no wait, good eats (brisket may have needed a little more time), and the best service we've had in a long time! Thank you, John - you were awesome!

If you haven't eaten at The Salt Lick, you are missing out on true Texas BBQ. Beautiful location conveniently located in Round Rock TX next to the baseball stadium and across the Hwy 79 from the Kalahari Resort and Water Park. Restaurant is always clean. And the service is great. Zharece provided my bother and I excellent customer service during our visit. The new lunch specials are the perfect size which includes drink and dessert.Only problem we experienced was there were no paper towels in the men's restroom. The Salt Lick remains on 'My Keepers List'

Customer service upon entry was non-existent, but thankfully our waiter was pleasant. The food was ok but not great. The beans were salty and I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw or bbq sauce. Overall, it's a decent spot with plenty of table space for large gatherings, but the BBQ is just okay.

Visiting Austin and had to get some bbq, our friend recommended this place and it was incredible!Don't sleep on the Turkey, omg it was unlike any turkey I've ever had, full of flavor and melt in your mouth. The brisket and burnt ends were both delicious and hit the bbq spot, and the Mac and cheese was so good, I wish we had more! And be sure to save room for dessert, the cobbler (get half peach half berry) with ice cream was the perfect way to end the meal. Service was quick, atmosphere was warm and inviting and overall, a great Texas bbq experience

4 STARSTrying out The Salt Lick when visiting Austin is a MUST. The original location in Driftwood is pretty remote and far away from the rest of Austin, whereas this location in Round Rock is much more accessible. It's not quite as big as the original location, but they serve all the same food.Normally when I go, we get the all-you-can-eat family style meal which costs $32.95/adult. It includes brisket, sausage, pork ribs, potato salad, cole slaw, and beans. Of these items, our faves are the sausage and the pork ribs. You have to use their SPICY bbq sauce when you eat the meats. It's one of my favorite bbq sauces of all time. It's a nice blend of tangy, sweet, and hot, and pairs well with ALL of their meats. As for the brisket, it's not my personal favorite as there is so much competition in the brisket space there in Austin. But definitely go for the sausage and pork ribs, and be sure to leave space for some pecan pie with vanilla ice cream on top for dessert. Absolutely delicious!Lots of parking at this location in Round Rock too. Be sure to take a bottle of their spicy bbq sauce home with you. I always take it back to California with me.

I have not been to this location in about a decade, looks like a lot has changed in the area! I came in with my small party of 3 on a Friday afternoon at about 530pm and it was about a 15 minute wait where you get to look at all the food.I'll say the food pricing is very reasonable for Texas bbq, I ended up getting the all you can eat option and my wife got the beef rib plate so we could try more stuff.I'll say the beef rib was very disappointing, the pork ribs first wound was good, but when they brought out some dry ones for the second round. Feel like overall quality has gone down, but still a fun place imo.

My friends and I dined at The Salt Lick BBQ after a boat day on Lake Travis. We were a large group (8) and were able to get seated after a short wait (we did make a reservation in advance). About half our party ordered the Family Style all-you-can-eat option and the rest of us ordered individual plates. I ordered the Brisket and Pork Rib Comb plate with a side of mac n cheese. The brisket was great and the ribs were just good but tasted better with the table bbq sauce! We had a great waitress who took our order and helped us with ordering drinks and recommendations. Before our plates came out, another waitress took over which was a little disappointed because our original waitress was amazing and personable, I can't remember her name but I would have loved to give her a shoutout! At the end of our meal, we got a complimentary cobbler and ice cream for the table to celebrate my partner's birthday! Overall, it was a great experience, ambiance was exactly what we were looking for! Laid back and fun!
