We arrive on a busy Saturday.Instead of waiting in the long line we ordered food to go.It came quickly then we sat outside and enjoyed the music.Inside is busy and noisyOutside was lovely. We snacked then took our to go food home.I would recommend if you don't have ton of time to wait or don't have large party. To go orders handled differentlyOrder from general store. Beer and wine sold in different buildingLots of vineyards nearby

Restaraunt is larger than you would think! Had Both indoor and outdoor seating with all picnic benches. Fast service. Fun atmosphere, good place for large groups and familiesWe ordered sandwiches, a small plate and dessert. -Sandwiches were a little difficult to eat because bread fell apart easily - Liked the meat and the bbq sauce: Pork ribs were a favorite- sides were okay- Had chocolate chip pecan pie for dessert: it was good but wish it would've been served warm Overall food was pretty good but not the best bbq I've had.

This review is for the mail order barbecue only.Let's just start with how awesome it is to be able to try all the bbq from a Texas institution without leaving California. The Spicy Smoked Turkey Breast made my Thanksgiving wayyy less boring, that's for sure. Instead of bland slabs of white meat, we got a slab of white meat with some smoke and a real hit of spice. I loathe turkey, but they actually made it into something I could actually want to eat. Now if only they'd smoke and spice some turkey legs instead, I'd be ordering those every year. The classics are the classics. The Brisket is good, the Sausage is snappy, and both the pork and beef ribs are alright. I'm sure it's all better when eaten fresh, but I'm just glad I got to try it. Good stuff, would go again.

This is a Salt Lick BBQ review! Haven't been in a while, so glad we stopped by before our tastings today! We visited early on a Sunday, which was perfect--no crowds yet, and we were the first ones in the dining area. The service was amazing and friendly, and they even accommodated our request for a bigger table with a better view.Food-wise, we had some hits and misses. The daily specials were hit or miss, with some in our group not loving the sides that came with them. The classic combo is the way to go--you can't go wrong with the BBQ staples. Personally, I really enjoyed my plate!Overall, a solid BBQ spot with great service and atmosphere--just be mindful of what you order!

During my visit to Austin, Texas, I quickly learned that trying the local barbecue was a must. Salt Lick BBQ is one of the most popular spots and it did not disappoint!Located about 20 minutes outside of downtown, it's definitely worth the drive. The restaurant is spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and while we were there on the weekend, we were treated to a live country music performance, adding to the laid-back, Texas vibe.We ordered a variety of items from the menu, including bison, turkey, chicken, and potato salad. For dessert, we had their homemade peach cobbler and pecan pie. Everything was absolutely delicious. I didn't realize how much I loved peach cobbler until I tried the authentic version, they truly nailed it.Our server, along with the rest of the staff, was friendly and attentive, making our experience even better.Without a doubt, Salt Lick BBQ is the best barbecue place I've been to, and I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Austin. If you're in the area or visiting, do yourself a favor and check it out, you won't be disappointed!

The Salt Lick was my first proper Texan barbecue experience so it has a special place in my heart. Moving from California, I knew I had to try the delicacy of my new home as soon as I moved here. We came on a Saturday during peak lunch time and were pleasantly surprised with being seated quickly. The restaurant has plenty of seating for family style eating. They also have the pit open for visitors to take pictures, which was fun and cool to see. We all got the Thurman's choice to be able to try all the different cuts of meat. It came with a heaping side of beans and other sides. The meat was tender and juicy. My favorite was the sausage. Easily it was one of the best BBQs I had tried before. We also got the blueberry and peach cobbler. Both were sweet and delicious, making it a good way to end the meal after eating savory foods.Thank you Salt Lick for this fun experience!

I wanted to like this place but meh. We came in on a Thursday and waited maybe 5 minutes until we were seated. Usually there is a wait though and there was a crazy one when we were leaving. Salt Lick is known for their BBQ obviously. But besides just ordering plates, they also had sandwiches. When we went they had a special going on for $30/pp for their AYCE family style dinner (usually its $33). The special includes beef brisket, sausage, pork ribs, beans, potato salad and coleslaw. I found the sausage to be my favorite thing there. It was very flavorful but the other meats ran too salty for me (and I usually like salty). The beef brisket was my second favorite. I did not care for the pork ribs. I also didn't like any of the sides. The beans were very underwhelming and I didn't like their version of potato salad. The potato salad was more like a cold cheesy potato salad. It just wasn't for me but the person I came with liked it. We found 2 plates of meat to be the perfect amount for us. It left us room to enjoy their Half n half cobbler. The cobbler was half blackberry and half peach and came out warm. We also added vanilla ice cream on top and it was heavenly. I highly recommend it. Service was great. I was a little worry we would be without meat since we sat in the very corner but our waitress made sure to check on us constantly. She even brought us our 2nd plate of meat without even asking. The inside is very large and there is also plenty of outside seating. I do want to come back to give them another try and check out their pulled pork.
