Note: My employer paid for this stay._____When I had the chance to book any hotel (within reason) in Austin for a four-night work trip, I knew I wanted to stay at The Carpenter Hotel. I had some friends who stayed there in 2018 for a weekend visit, and I was able to check their room out then. Other than some furniture and decor refreshes, a lot has stayed the same since the Bunkhouse acquisition. Vibes are still strong. The staff was pleasant throughout my stay. They were great at answering my questions about the booking my work had done for the room upon check-in. Although I thought check-in was a little clunky, that may be partly due to my travel brain. When I arrived, I parked in the 15-minute parking by the cafe and brought my bags inside. After getting my keys, I was provided information on parking on-site. I wasn't told where the garage was, but I knew it could be easy to find as it would be around the block somewhere. As I was about to head back outside to my car, I realized I needed to do something with my bags, so I asked the second person at the desk if they would hold my bags. They were friendly and put the bags in the room behind the desk while I ran outside to handle parking my car and paying for it.The room is minimal yet elegant and cozy. Even though my balcony faced the pool, I didn't find the restaurant noise to be too much. If you are a sensitive sleeper, you have the added bonus of a bedside white noise machine. The bed is quite plush, making for a great restful night's sleep. The snack box and minifridge are well stocked for any purchases but don't expect there to be any room for leftovers you might have from restaurant meals.Overall, it was a lovely stay, but I don't think I could've afforded it for a personal trip. I took a point off here because they missed the mark with the amenities fee, which is $25/night + tax. For the level of luxury they've set themselves at, this doesn't seem warranted as it's covering the pool. What else? There's not a gym on-site to maintain. Why not roll that into the total cost versus having us pay for it at check-in? Also, during my check-in process, they could've offered to take my bags to the room while I parked in the garage. While it's a small action, it's a level of service that takes the hospitality and care up a notch.

PeacefulCoolCleanVibey Oh and....DOGS!This has been our home for a week as we welcomed a grandchild. It's been a wonderful relaxed stay. The rooms are modern and minimal. Nice products. I love the early morning in the cafe. I love the late nights in the cafe. lol. It's a great way to wind down. We had so much fun at the pool with our toddler grandies! You can order food on your phone and it shows up quickly. The hospitality is key here at The Carpenter. Warm and friendly staff. It was refreshing. Thank you for the smiles! Very clean! This place is exceptionally clean. Location is prime!!! Near everything you need. Food and shopping! You can even walk to many eateries from here.

I had a wonderful stay at the Carpenters Hotel. Even before I stepped foot on the property, the service was phenomenal. Shout out to Joseph for be so helpful. Great food menu, clean rooms. Beautiful/Unique facilities. The elevators smell great. The neighborhood is very walkable and there's ton of dining in walking distance. The only things I wish they had were wash cloths for face and body, and more room on the fridge. it comes stocked with items that you won't necessarily use because they cost but overall everything else was great!

Absolutely LOVED this hotel. It will definitely be where I stay every time I visit Austin. The hotel is in perfect location and the vibes are immaculate! ORDER the breakfast tacos! They are a must (before they run out ). To top it all off, they have text concierge! Woke up from a long night out and ordered breakfast right from my phone! Didn't have to get out of bed. It's like you're own personal assistant. I'll be back for my daily $5 espresso martini

We stayed at the Carpenter Hotel for two nights last month when we were back in Austin for a wedding. I definitely enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again. The great? The service. Our flight was always going to get in after midnight, but then with delays? We didn't arrive to check in until after 2 am. They don't have a manned lobby at that point, but they texted earlier in the day and we called them when we arrived, and the friendliest member of staff was there to let us in and check us in within minutes (and cheerful about it)! The service at the front desk was great throughout. Also great? The room. Just cool and comfortable and everything we needed for our stay. Seriously, this place has style. But it isn't style over substance to the point where things don't make sense or the room isn't comfortable. It was beautiful AND comfortable. Also great? There are a lot of amenities at the hotel? We didn't swim in the pool (December stay) or eat at the restaurant, but we did visit the coffee shop each morning before heading out. I liked the location, but I think it will be even better in a few years when construction is done. We walked to downtown one morning and it wasn't a long walk at all, but you just walk past a lot of construction and empty lots right now. (As someone that hasn't lived in Austin since 2016 and doesn't visit too often, this area of town looked so different!)Overall, we had a really nice stay at the Carpenter. Very cool, very Austin, very good vibes/service. I recommend it.

Didn't stay at the hotel but tried out the downstairs restaurant per a recommendation. It's a very nice cute place with beautiful decor and light wood beam features. Would highly recommend the atmosphere for a lunch with friends or a nice date night.Street parking is pretty dicey, there is not a lot of spaces at all since it's mostly for nearby businesses. It's in a very tight neighborhood. The food is fairly pricey, but can be slightly less if you come during happy hour before 5. We got the crispy oyster mushrooms which had great texture and a complementing sauce as well as the cheese plate, with fantastic variety. I really enjoyed everything I tried and thought it was pretty unique.Service was pretty good and attentive.

I had a lovely stay here for an event in downtown Austin. I traveled solo and felt very very safe which is imprtant to me when I travel alone. The staff was AMAZING and provided a very personal experience. I had apps and a cocktail at the bar and the service and food/drinks were top notch! I normally don't sleep well in hotels, but had a great sleep here. I expected it to be loud as it's located in downtown Austin, but it was very quiet and peaceful. I love all the details put into the rooms, restaurant and lobby. I also enjoyed coffee from their cafe in the morning. Again, staff and coffee were amazing. I will definitely be back again and highly recommend! Also, it's so affordable! :)

What a little Portlandesque Austin gem! I booked based on affordability, location, and curiosity (I love anything and everything offbeat, and architectural), but found myself surprised by new elements of the hotel each day of my three day stay. If you're reading this review in an effort to decide if this hotel is for you, here are a few ins and outs that I found helpful. Booking: I booked through a third party in order to take advantage of a room deal. The hotel seem to embrace promotions and room deals so shop around before booking. Check-in & Parking: Driving from Houston, it was interesting to see a parking spot for check in, street parking and a $35 per day small private parking garage instead of a parking lot outside of downtown. Upon check in I was given an aesthetic map, and number for text concierge serve, for those who (like myself) would prefer to text. It was nice to see gender neural option restrooms, a coffee shop seemingly straight from Portland, a quality restaurant, a sparkling pool and accessibility friendly pathway to my room.Rooms: The rooms are intimate, intentionally minimalist, and thoughtfully designed. Each room has a balcony (some with better views than others). I appreciated the textural variety of blue tiles, and warm orange brick to creating a unique offbeat vibe. My room had a full length mirror, small seating table, television, and bed (on the floor), semi-open shower.Service: The text concierge was a treat. I opted for tool service on my first night and the dish arrived warm, the food was delicious (and very rich). What's here: The location is incredibly convenient. While I wouldn't say it's walkable (due to busy roads), the hotel is close to Zilker park, and Ladybird lake. You're also right across from PJs (which is walkable) and near El Venado (the queso and tacos are fabulous). Who stays here: With its offerings I found myself surrounded by many other hipster 30 something's. I passed a few couples and one or two families and girl groups. I don't see this as a kid friendly spot. While I'm sure they can stay comfortably, the hotel does not seem offer amenities catered to children and families. There's also a fair bit of walking based on your room location, and the beds sit on the floor, so I could see those with mobility concerns booking through the hotel directly, to ensure the staff understands their needs.

We had a lovely stay at The Carpenter! It is very unassuming. It looks small but it's a larger property than we realized. Loved the swanky brick hallways and outdoor areas. Gorgeous outdoor seating everywhere! It was my first time in Austin and the location was great, quiet, and very close to town with lots of walking opportunity. Next to sooo much good food. The pool was never too crowded and the perfect temperature. The room was cozy but had high ceilings and was immaculately clean, very well decorated, so cute and boutique feeling. We loved the provided Marshall speaker, blackout slider, and the patio where we got to eat dinner some nights. Plenty of lighting and outlets. I absolutely loved the decor; warm blue tile and red brick with a brutalist concrete floor. The room was stylish and functional, but nothing felt sacrificed for the trend. It felt like its own unique style that I absolutely adored. So many lovely textures and colors and very thoughtfully done. The AC worked great and the room had a fan, so it was very comfortable at night. I slept like a baby (seriously! My Apple Watch said I was 95%+ recovered every morning!) the bed was very comfortable, great pillows. We were able to easily watch our shows on Netflix on their TV. We parked on the street and had no issue, but there is a paid garage available. I would 1000% stay again. Super easy check in and out. We had a wonderful vacation here, I really can't complain about anything at all!
