My boyfriend and I decided to go to Tatsumi Sushi for our Valentine's Day dinner! We started with the veggie tempura, which was sooo good. It was a variety of veggies, but my favorites were the eggplant, sweet potato, and shrimp. It tasted super light and crispy not heavy at all. It came with a steaming dipping sauce that tasted like udon soup.We also shared the hamachi, which was incredibly fresh and flavorful. For my meal, I got the negi toro roll and a salmon hand roll. Both were amazing. The sushi tasted super fresh and the flavors were simple but high quality. The atmosphere was great for Valentines Day. It wasn't too loud or crowded so we could actually enjoy our meal. Service was quick but not rushed. Overall, it was a great dinner.

Came back to Tatsumi for a birthday dinner celebration and it blew me away again! We ordered a variety of rolls, nigiri, Wagyu, oysters, pork fried rice and appetizers (not all pictured) but it was seriously so hard to pick a favorite! If I had to choose, I'd say the oysters and Wagyu were my favorites of the night since it was my first time having them at Tatsumi. I mean, who doesn't love Wagyu, right, but this was prepared so beautifully and paired with a great sauce so EVERY bite is the "perfect bite." The oyster (and all the fish) are so fresh and light - I'd order one if everything if I could. Looking forward to coming back!

I am beyond overdue for an updated review, but here we go! In the past three years, I think I've visited Tatsumi over 80 times (both dine-in and takeout). It's hands-down my favorite restaurant in Austin and even rivals most sushi spots I grew up with in the Bay Area. Chef Elvin, Tiffany, and the entire Tatsumi team are nothing short of amazing--they truly feel like family to me. Their dedication to creating an exceptional dining experience, serving top-tier sushi, and sharing meaningful conversations and memories is unmatched and I'm so lucky to know them.No matter the occasion--whether I'm celebrating, having a rough day, or just craving a fantastic meal--I know Tatsumi will always make me happy. I've introduced countless friends and family to this gem, and it's my go-to spot for hosting out-of-town visitors. Without fail, everyone I bring here raves about it, often calling it one of the best meals they've had in Austin. I've explored most of the menu by now, and my list of favorites keeps growing--it's a true testament to the quality and creativity that Tatsumi delivers every time.Lydia's Favorite's :)Appetizers:- Oysters- Street corn ribs- Rock shrimp tempura- Kakuni Pork Belly Bao- Chili Hamachi- Negi toro toastMains:- Hamachi kama- Char siu pork fried rice- a5 Wagyu ribeye (honestly my favorite steak in town)Rolls:- Tatsu Special- A5 miyazaki- Jennet's Special- Negi toro roll (Delicious as a hand roll too)Nigiri:- Umimasu- salmon belly- otoro- Seabream w/ kelp butter- scallop- hamachi If I were to narrow this down to what I can realistically eat with my partner during a meal, this would be it: Oysters, hamachi kama, a5 Miyazaki roll, negi toro hand rolls, and an order each of all the nigiri above. The hamachi kama melts in your mouth, is so tender, and I am also in love with the sauce that comes with it. I would highly recommend doing an omakase with Chef Elvin. I promise, you'll be blown away at the creativity and delicious bites. Huge thank you to the Tatsumi team, yall know I'm obsessed!

My only wish is that I discovered this place sooner, so that I may have eaten here for years! AMAZING! Tatsumi has made its way into my top 5 sushi restaurants and I've (sadly) only visited once. Ever since trying Tatsumi, I've been wanting to return. The portion sizes are great and everything I had was phenomenal! My favorite roll was "Mountains". Their hand rolls are *chefs kiss*. Everything I ordered came out timely and plates were nearly immediately removed from the table when I finished the dish. I have no doubt that I will treat myself to the omakase when I return. The only negative ticks I'd give is: 1) one of the employees dropped my check off before I asked for it. I'd have very well sat there and ordered more but, the action felt rushed. (I do not believe it was nearly closing time, otherwise I'd have understood). 2) When the same employee presented my plate with assorted nigiri, I wasn't told what was what. Other than that, 10 out of 10!

We heard a lot of rave about Tatsumi Sushi and finally got a chance to come visit ourselves. We went on a Friday for dinner and there wasn't a wait . As we dined the restaurant got busier but there were still a couple tables open when left. The interior was pretty and it's definitely a vibe when you walk in. I think the restaurant was going for a more up scale feel with the dim lighting. I like that you can see the chefs at the bar a lot the back wall and their beautifully prepared station. We ordered the following:* hamachi chili- 4/5 tasty and loved the crunch but wasn't the best I've ever had* sake nigiri - 4/5 good but not the best I've ever had. * Hokkdaido Muke Hotate nigiri - 1/5 was over powdered with the abundance of wasabi put in this nigiri. I couldn't enjoy the scallop * chu toro nigiri - 4/5 good but not the best I've ever had. * amaebi nigiri comes with fried heads - love the fried heads which came later and not together with the nigiri. The nigiri was ok 3/5* rock shrimp tempura- we asked for this item but the dish is no longer able since it was on their old menu. * agadeshi tofu: 1/5 bland and is not crispy after dipping in the sauce. The tofu became chewy and sticky from the batter. It was odd. We had this dish many time and never experience this. I wanted to send the fish back but my husband didn't want to waste food and just unenjoyably finish it. That is usually one of his favorite dishes at sushi restaurants. * Gary's roll- 3/5 sauce is spicy the salmon on top of the roll was cut super duper thin . Skimpy * mountains roll 3/5- sauce is spicy and overwhelming the roll. * tikka maki roll - 1/5 tiny roll *Cold sake - not smooth and burned your throat coming down. *Kusshi oysters $25 for half size - delicious 5/5Do I recommend this place? Waitress was really nice. She had ask how all the food was and I told her the tofu was really bland and wasn't crispy. She said thank you for the feedback and she will relate. I understand my husband finish the tofu dish because he didn't want to waste food even thought it wasn't good but even with that feedback she didn't offer to take it off the bill. We wouldn't have accepted the dish taken off the bill but I find it odd nothing was done about it. Also on both of our menu the chi toro nigiri showed the value was $1 which was a typo and should be $12 after we asked our waitress is that correct. She said that was wrong and it's missing a number 2 after it. I told her that probably needs to be fixed and she tells me thank you for the feedback. I am not sure if that will be fixed but that is false advertisement and switching & baiting if they don't correct that on their menu. Wasn't a fan of the rolls and tofu. Rolls were over powering with the sauces and the fish in it was cut super thin and skimpy. The best dish there were the oysters. I feel the prices are really high compare to other sushi places. Nigri pieces the fish was cut thick. If you are into bold flavors for sushi rolls this might be your place. Overall experience was ok and I don't think we will be back.

One of the best sushi restaurants in Austin! My friends in SoCal think I'm crazy when I tell them how great some of the sushi restaurants are here in Austin but a few of them are very legit and can rival and sushi restaurant in the country. And Tatsumi is one of those. It's in a very unassuming area of town that you could easily pass by. In fact, we were going off the car GPS and ended up driving a complete circle around the place before we found it. But you can see it from the main road if you know where to look. We came in on a Friday with no reservations and we were able to get a table, but it does look like it fills up quickly. We were only two so best to make reservations if your party is bigger. The inside is quite beautiful and the staff were very nice. Again, not having a reservation, this was not a problem for them and they immediately seated us and soon after, someone took a drink order from us. Since we had never been here before, and to make a fair comparison, we ordered some of our usual favorites: Seaweed Salad, Nigiri (Hamachi and Toro - two pieces per order). For rolls, we had the Mountain roll and a Gary's roll. For starters, they brought out the seaweed salad with the nigiri. I would have expected the salad first before bringing out any of the food items ordered. The nigiri was epic! The fish was so fresh, it practically melts in your mouth. Very generous portions. For the Mountain and Gary's roll, I took the recommendation of the server and they were both fantastic. Leads me to believe the other rolls are equally fantastic. Amazing restaurant. It would be nice if they brought out the items separately. There is no reason to bring the salad out with the sushi. Starters and salads should be brought out first. Seaweed salad is such as basic dish and yet this wasn't very good. Too soggy and they use a slightly different dressing. And we wanted a Philly roll but they do not carry cream cheese. I'm well aware that cream cheese is unheard of at a sushi restaurant in Japan. But also something you won't find at a sushi restaurant in Japan is a California roll and they have two varieties of California rolls here. You can get a Philly roll at the top sushi restaurants in the U.S. Too bad they choose to not serve them. Bottom line, this is without a doubt one of the best sushi restaurants in Austin and probably all of Texas. Just make sure to ask them not to bring all the food at once.

Tatsumi Sushi is absolutely phenomenal! We stumbled upon this gem by chance, and it completely blew me away. We started with the gyoza, which I usually find pretty standard, but these were perfection. We also sampled a variety of rolls and nigiri, and everything was exceptional. The toro nigiri was outstanding--just as good as the sushi we had in Japan. Even more impressive, the Spanish mackerel nigiri (a special) was better than any mackerel we tried in Japan! I'm beyond impressed with this restaurant and will definitely be returning. I can't recommend it enough!

OK, I've left a review before but these guys are just too freakin' good man. I just got to-go food and honestly, they were probably too accommodating. On top of that, after walking for about 15 minutes, oh my God, the food remained amazing. Yelp wants me to mention "the ambiance" which as I was walking was excellent, pretty good in the restaurant too.If you want knowledgeable servers, it's hard to do better than Kyra and Vin. Fear not, they'll take care of you.. Ignoring for the moment competence(which is possessed in spades) they're some of the most kind and caring people that you could possibly ask for. Do yourself a favor.
