After seeing so many videos of their take-out omakase boxes, I decided that I wanted to try dining in first to get the full experience. They currently do not take reservations and are walk-in only. I gave them a visit the Saturday after Valentine's Day and only had about a 20 minute wait which was way better than expected with the restaurant appearing quite full. The inside is modern and warm with semi-intimate vibes which contributed to my positive experience. The menu consists of several omakase options with some a la carte items on the backside. They also have a small selection of sake, beer, and wine. I decided on the Grand Omakase since it appeared to have the most value for its cost, and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the selection of fish as well as the integration of nigiri, handrolls, and cold dishes. The staff were all super friendly and checked in on us everytime a new dish came out. Seems like they have a very seamless operation on how they run service each night. A new dish would come out just shortly after finishing the prior. So far, this is my most highly rated sushi restaurant in Austin, and I would love to come back again or even try their omakase take out boxes at home.

We visited Tancho on Valentine's Day with a party of four, and the wait was about 20 minutes. It was well worth it. The place was bustling, and we noticed that takeout orders were flying out the door--it was clearly a popular choice from all the viral social media posts. The interior is super cute and modern, with a clean, minimalist vibe that makes for a great dining atmosphere. Their approach to sushi is simple, but executed perfectly--letting the fresh, high-quality ingredients speak for themselves. We opted for the Grand Omakase, which was fairly priced compared to other spots offering a similar experience. Each piece was thoughtfully prepared, and you could taste the care that went into every bite.If you're looking for a casual yet refined sushi spot that delivers on freshness and simplicity, Tancho is definitely worth checking out.

After so many viral videos, we decided to have at-home grand omakase experience from Tancho. This box is $54.00 and for the price totally worth it. It is such a fun concept and we loved the Akagisan Sake. The fish quality is good for the price but with that being said for us a 6-7/10. We ordered a Grand Omakase box for the each of us and portion sizing was good for me, but wish I added an additional roll for him. Overall positive, cool & fun concept that makes affordable omakase experiences more accessible in Austin!

Great experience for takeout! The fish was fresh and delicious totally beat our expectations. The tuna gunkan was a favorite with a hint of truffle. We did the grand omakase for each of us and it was perfect. The sauce options are a great touch and the box comes with everything you need! We will be making this our go to for take out sushi.

THE BIG: Located in south west Austin in the shopping center off the intersection of Southwest Pkwy and William Cannon Dr. Large and spacious interior with that signature japanese contemporary flair. Parking lot available.THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here on a Saturday night to grab the affordable omakase. There were different tiers that included normal omakase ($39), the grand omakase ($59), light omakase ($29) and roll omakase ($36).We went for the grand omakase. I liked how it was a variety of things from sashimi, to hand rolls alongside the nigiri pieces. However I think I enjoy more of the pure nigiri experience. Fish pieces were good, a bit on the smaller end. My favorite bites were on the tuna flight that included the akami, chutoro and tuna gunkan (had truffle in it!)THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, for two grand omakases, it was around $160 and that included the 17% auto-gratuity. Very affordable omakase and I'd say it's a definite must try.

Came on a Thursday after my wedding dress fitting since I took some time off, this place is pretty far down south but in a cute plaza off near the galleria. I got there around 1 pm on a Thursday for a late lunch. The restaurant wasn't crowded and I was seated promptly at their "sushi bar", which is a long communal table on the right of the hostess stand. The decor and ambiance of the space somewhat reminds me of a modern minimalistic kitchen with cedar tables and chairs. Once I was sat the server explained the menu briefly and brought water to the table. There are 3 omakase options light, regular, and grand you can add on additional items al La carte. I ordered the regular omakase which came with a sumono salad, tuna sashimi, 2 yellowtail, 2 salmon, a tuna hand roll, 1 albacore, 1 tuna, and a salmon hand roll. This wasn't the best sushi I've had but if you're in the area and looking for an affordable sushi lunch or dinner I think it's worth checking out!

Pretty decent omakase for a great price! My husband came on a Friday evening for date night. We were able to walk in to reserve a table that was ready in about 10 minutes. I love the low lighting, and modern interior design. You have an option of 3 different types of omakase. We opted for the largest one and it was VERY good! Fish size was decent and very fresh. Each piece has a great amount of flavor. I also loved the mix of hand rolls and nigiri. The servers didn't know too much about the sushi, but if you're looking for a quick and dirty omakase, Tancho is the spot!

I have pretty conflicting thoughts about Tancho. I do think it's a gorgeous restaurant with beautiful interior finishings. It's just as beautiful in the daytime as it is at night, and it's a perfect spot for a date. Service is also pretty good--they are really attentive. When we arrived, it was around 8:30PM on a Saturday and they were out of almost everything so we had to get the handroll omakase, which I was pretty disappointed by given I wanted to give my friend the ultimate experience. Our waiter also thought we were sharing one handroll omakase, and I wish he had clarified because two people sharing 5-6 handrolls is not nearly enough food. They brought out rolls at different times at first, but they did time the kitchen to bring them simultaneously out eventually. Fish quality is definitely pretty good, but I'd say overall that every handroll was about a 6-7/10. They were pretty underwhelming or unforgettable. I don't think they use very good nori because the texture isn't thick enough nor crispy enough. They also use rice paper for some rolls, and that doesn't add anything to the actual roll. It just felt really soggy and light. The actual handrolls either needed more sauce or acidity, and they could've been just regular sushi pieces. For handrolls, they need to be executed well or you're literally just eating a deconstructed piece of sushi. They also ran out of mochi. I feel like to run out of so many things on a Saturday night when there will always be people coming up until closing time is...pretty iffy. It'd be different if we were coming in on a weeknight, but they almost did not have any nigiri pieces left. Not to mention, they don't do a very good job of cutting the fish. My chutoro nigiri was oddly slimy, and I could see knife cuts on the fish that weren't cut all the way through.

We came to try the omakase options. I first have to say this place has great service. The servers were quick, friendly and awesome. The food was insane and very affordable. I did the roll omakase and i was stuffed by the end. All of my other friends did the grand omakase. I truly can't wait to come back. The restaurant is designed well and charming. Overall had a great time.

My first omakase experience and it was lovely despite a few hiccups. I stopped by with a small group (5) for dinner. This restaurant has a simple yet cozy decor. Our server promptly greeted us and quickly took our orders. I went with the roll omakase, and it was insanely delicious. The reason I did not give a 5-star rating was due to one staff member, who was helping the server bring out our dishes. She kept placing them (3 different instances) in the wrong order and served to the wrong person (and consumed). Needless to say, our server apologized for the mishap and replaced the missing dishes for the respective individuals. The food was amazing, and the menu is moderately priced given the food selection and location. Overall solid experience and looking forward to coming back soon.
