I've been a fan of this little restaurant for quite a few years, and I'm so glad it's still here, even though "The Two Sisters" are no longer the owners. Note to self - be happy for them, they're living their best lives. OK, now to the review. As the menu says, you have reached Bánh Mì heaven. The bread is key to a good Bánh Mì, and here you will find French bread with a nice crunch on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. Although, there have been some inconsistencies, sometimes it's soft, sometimes more crunchy, so I've learned to be specific in my requests. The #82 is a really interesting sandwich. Heretofore, I have not had a hot Bánh Mì, but this one is just that. Stir fried tofu and vegetables. An unusual mélange of vegetables, at that. Green beans, carrots, onions, peppers, broccoli, squash, and a few other little surprises. It's just an interesting combination, and I like it. Add a generous topping of sriracha and it's perfect. And now, the negatives. The Spring Rolls were filled with the same filling as the sandwich I just described, along with thick cooked noodles that I couldn't identify. I know what they aren't: vermicelli. And they were warm when they came out. A total disappointment. Sadly, the cream puffs. They used to be known for their pastries, but they haven't been in the display case the last few visits. I asked Art if they still make them, he said yes but they keep them in the back. I watched as he went to the kitchen and asked the cook to prepare some for our table. She took a bag out of the freezer, put 2 in the microwave, then filled them. The pastry, having been nuked, changed texture, rendering it rubbery and basically inedible. In sum: go to Bánh Mì heaven. Don't get a spring roll, at least not the tofu vegetarian like I did, and skip the cream puffs for now.

Omg, not sure what happened to this restaurant. It used to be good, decent vietnamese restaurant. NOT ANYMORE. The spicy noodle soup was not look or taste like it. I don't see the vietnamese ladies work at this place anymore, I think that was why. Now they have an old white man work there. The food was so bad and expensive. So sad.

Ok, love this place. How do I live so close and I've never been here?!If you're traveling north up Lamar, this is in a very unassuming strip center with a black roof - very easy to miss, and definitely south of the main Asian center of N LamarI picked up my order 30 mins before closing and was greeted by a very kind man- we discussed how good Coke Zero is (diet soda is always a favorite topic of mine), and he was pleasant, service was fast, and they packed everything up perfectly. Loved the banh cuon (rice sheet wraps) with ground pork, mushrooms, and pork slice. I'm really looking forward to heading back and trying some banh mi. Definitely recommend!

I was greeted by a friendly older man who spoke good English. I ordered the grilled pork banh mi and added liver pate to it. The pork had a good grill on it, probably with charcoal from its distinctive taste. It was cut in a julienne-type fashion, not a shaved cut, so some pieces were rather chewy. They add a homemade mayo to it, but not enough of it, considering the thickness of the French bread. The veggies were of the usual sort, but had no taste of pickling, and just a small amount of cilantro. I'd have to say that Le Bleu offers a superior sandwich. On the other hand, I LOVED the cup of vegetable soup, which was actually a delicious beef pho broth with steamed vegetables (yellow squash, broccoli, carrots, zucchini, and green and red bell peppers), with a bit of cilantro on top. I could definitely eat a giant bowl of it. Knowing now how flavorful the broth is directs me to order a beef pho dish next time.

Awesome spot.3 other patrons were dining in while we were there. And 1 grub hub order picked up. Good to know they offer that as an option! My partner and I both ordered bun Bo hue because I had no intention of sharing my bowl. ;PThe service was a bit on the slower side. However, the restaurant employees were very kind and hospitable. The table was kept sanitary and clean. The utensils were sealed or brought from the kitchen. $20 for both orders (not including tip)

I recently relocated from the OC to Austin and had a mad craving for Banh Cuon Cha Lua. Unfortunately, the rice paper was way too thick and had a sour taste. Moreover, this plate did not come with bean spouts and the nuoc mam (fish sauce) was quite bland. Friendly staff but the food did not fulfill my needs.

Ordered via a delivery service so I can't really comment on the brick and mortar location, but I gotta say this may be my favorite banh mi in town. The garlic butter shrimp banh mi was absolutely delicious, though it could have used a little bit more shrimp. I'll be sure to order extra the next time!

One of my favorite eateries in town. I've been coming here since 2013 when someone on OKCupid ostensibly assigned me culinary homework and told me to go here and eat the dang banh mi for god's sake, and so I did, because I take homework seriously. And I never looked back. And I never did say yes to a date with that person, but I'll forever have a wealth of gratitude for the intro to Tam Deli.

Tam's Deli is as good as ever, though it's changed--but quality is still the best. Had a tasty Bahn mi and of course, a cream puff. Also, what I call the Special-Tea, which is as good as it was when the sisters owned the store. I've eaten Bahn mi all over the city and Tam's is the tops! It's a very casual place with pleasant service. Always enjoy myself there.

By far my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Austin. They have the best Pho, Bahn Mi's, and spring roles in the area. I live by a couple of pho restaurants but I always drive to this one because the broth is always perfect, the meat is great quality, and they are the nicest people with great customer service. I believe it's family owned. Don't let the place fool you, it's amazing.
