Incredible! What can I say? Sushi Koen exceeded my expectations. This is my BFF's favorite sushi restaurant and she has been gatekeeping it for a while because It's her hidden gem that she is hesitant for the world to find. But, she loves them so much and wants them to stay in business so she has agreed to, even encouraged me, to write this review. Now that the cat's out of the bag, run, don't walk to Sushi Koen and here's why: The service - top notch. At first I thought it was just because they knew my friend but, I noticed everyone getting treated well and tended to often. We had a lovely server who showed us the correct way to do a Sake bomb and we were seated at the bar where we could watch the chefs prepare the sushi (which was a cool experience) and they were nice and friendly as well. They chatted it up with us while preparing our rolls. The ambiance - The restaurant is fairly small, nothing too fancy or frilly...but, cute, nice and clean inside. I truly felt like we were visiting Japan and just stumbled upon a local restaurant with some banging food. I also visited the restroom and it was very clean. 10/10The food- There were a variety of choices on the menu but, it wasn't overwhelming. I ordered the Shaggy Dog which was quite yummy. The sushi was FRESH and delicious and It wasn't overdone nor did it have too much going on. My bestie ordered the Johnny Roll because she said I HAD to try it. Trust me, this was something I would've never ordered on my own because it doesn't have rice and the rice is one of my favorite parts! But, after trying it, let me tell you, I am a BIG fan! It was so good and so unique for me. My friend also ordered sashimi which is also not typically my thing but, again, it was so fresh and it was served with house made wasabi. It was my first time trying wasabi made from scratch, and although I'm not a wasabi fan, I actually liked it. Everything was so good. We also asked the l chefs to recommend something else for me to try since it was my first time there. They asked me a few questions and then made a roll based on my answers. I loved that! Little touches like that are what takes a restaurant from good to great and what takes a person from patron to a regular.I can't wait to visit sushi Koen again!

Their happy hour food menu was the thing that set them apart from every other strip mall sushi place in the area. Since they dumped it, there's not much reason to go out of your way. It's fine, a bit dark inside, and the sushi is, again, fine. I was going to add one dish they do that I particularly enjoyed last time, but they don't have a website (which is *super* weird IMO) and thus I couldn't find a copy of their menu to look it up on their Facebook page.I'll be back if they restore their HH sushi, it was a good deal.

It happened - they went down hill. The rolls are now tasteless and not made with the ingredients on the menu. Noting that ingredients were missing - we asked for the roll to be corrected and the "chef" *stuffed* the missing ingredient in the roll and did not remake it. It was served back to us like nothing happened. This was admitted and we watched it happen. The correct rolls that we did get were tasteless (and kinda warm). My partner likened them to "soggy rice crispies". Sushi Koen had been a favorite and we were weekly regulars for years. Now we may never be back. Leaving with a bad taste in our mouths and hunger in our bellies. The waitresses were wonderful and absolutely not at fault. They offered us dessert and did everything they could to remedy the situation. Something behind the chefs counter has gone very wrong.

Fr fr this is the best sushi I've ever had. It is quite expensive ($17-$25 per roll) but I can understand why. It's heckin buss buss. 10/10 would absolutely recommend if you're a sushi snob and you don't mind forking over $50 for a meal. Ambiance is cozy and romantic, perfect for a date night. Service was impeccable, servers were very friendly and attentive. Hands down best sushi spot in Round Rock.

Roses are red...violets are blue...the food here is great and the atmosphere too!!I made reservations online to meet up with a friend and catch up. The process was very easy and they responded quickly with confirmation. This restaurant is more intimate spacing but still family friendly. The decor is also pleasant. The service was great from checkin to when we left. The staff is very attentive!!The food was delicious. The California roll here has to be my new favorite. They have different flavors for edamame so I def look forward to trying the others in the future. We opted for the normal ones and they didn't disappoint. The fried rice was full of flavor and cooked to perfection.

On my Sunday-Funday, my partner and I headed to Sushi Koen for some sushi. Recently, I have been sent numerous text from various people regarding the 'dangers' of consuming fish. But, how can you have sushi without great fish? Fresh fish is important for sushi because it tastes better, looks better, and is safer to eat. However, most sushi restaurants and bars in the United States serve fish that has been frozen to kill parasites. This is because the only way to kill parasites in raw fish is to freeze it. Regardless of the method, there is no reason to worry because every restaurant must follow the FDA sushi guidelines to be open. These standards determine the fish preservation process to achieve safe consumption. Regarding the conservation temperature, they established a minimum of 4ºC (41ºF), and during the delivery process, both the supplier and the restaurant must guarantee that the fish is protected from contaminating agents. The sushi served here is buttery in that it melts into your mouth with each bite. The freshness of the fish and expert preparation makes the sushi dishes here hard to beat. The service provided here is prompt and friendly.

Ordered takeout through toasttab and the service was prompt and food was great! Portions are pretty big and everything was packaged well. While I didn't dine in, I did appreciate the ambiance when picking up my food. The fish was fresh and food was flavorful. My 7-year old scarfed the eel rolls down in minutes and said he really enjoyed it. Both the ultimate salmon lover roll and volcano rolls were delicious, as well. I forgot to take a pic of the salmon roll before finishing it.

I've been to plenty of sushi restaurants in my lifetime from California to Texas to Ohio to New York so try this sushi restaurant in Round Rock was a nice visit. The dining room is dark and petite with a sports TV so you can easily enjoy your night with some beer and some sake. Overall the sushi rolls are amazing 'fresh fresh fresh fresh, can I say how fresh it is? I also love how clean the sushi rice tasted, true Japanese style rice with a hint of vinegar. I was very surprised with how fresh the rice was, and the restaurant that popped up in my mind was Sushi Nini in round rock. Don't get me wrong. That restaurant is great, but it's not as good as this restaurant based on the quality of the fish, how fresh the fishes in the rice. Overall love the Rainbow and James Bond roll, it was nice texture from the firm fish. The dynamite roll was great too, hot and warm topping on top vs a cold sushi roll nice blend of warm and cold. Overall you can't go wrong with any dish the Spider roll was crispy n crunch,Big chunks of crab, the eel roll with its clean cut eel on top. Only downside is the Magma roll, I probably won't order it again, the chopped tuna tasted like tuna from a can, cheap tuna, and it was bland not much flavor and the dipping sauce it comes with, also is bland. Don't get it. Also, the beef teriyaki, I was expecting a pull apart tender flakey type of beef but to see this type, sliced thin with the charred marks, I knew it was dry n low and behold, it was dry like sandpaper. It tasted as if the beef was already pre cooked, and sat for a while. When I added the sauce that came with it, it added a little more moisture but for $20??? A salad, soup, white rice, and the beef? More like $12-14, it is not not not not not worth $20. Too be honest, it sucked. I was on such a high note blown away by the good sushi rolls and the nice snappy garlic edamame but once I had the beef, it brought me down to earth and it was not pleasant at all. Overall, great experience just avoid those 2 dishes.

Meh. Room temperature sushi isn't my style. It wasn't awful, it wasn't great. The rainbow roll was filled with crab salad and mayo, not crab stick, which was off-putting at best, the salad was swimming in water, but the sushi tasted good otherwise. It's a small place, and you can tell they want to move people through quick. I was able to get some work done during lunch, which I appreciated, but I wouldn't come back. The prices were reasonable, and the service was mediocre.
