Unfortunately I was super hyped to go to this restaurant only to get severely sick. The staff were super friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. The bussers might take your plate if you leave the table! The atmosphere transports you to a different era almost...it's so unique. I tried the fried broccoli, the Chana masala, the samosas (as everyone had suggested), the tikka masala, lamb, and the chicken biryani. It was all delicious! However, I did get very sick immediately after eating. I actually had to skip work to go upchuck at home. I would recommend this place for those with iron stomachs. Otherwise get there when the food is immediately served.

Star of India is one of Austin's oldest Indian restaurants. Well established, and well-maintained, the ambience is great. The food is a standard that all other Indian restaurants in Austin would follow. It's very traditional food, but nothing that separates it from other places. That's the only knock I have for this place. The chef specialties can be found just about anywhere. But whatever there is, and what most people order, is outstanding and well presented. The pricing can be a little high. In fact, I would say it's probably somewhere between above average and expensive. But you'll never leave the restaurant feeling as if you paid too much for what you got. The vindaloo when spiced up, is better than almost any Indian place that I've ever had it at. But the rest of the menu is great too, and for that, I recommend almost any of the lamb dishes. One piece of advice I have is to park your car as close to the restaurant as you can. Unfortunately, there are grays that sometimes wander the parking lot, but it is much better lit now than it was a decade ago. Otherwise, don't miss it. It's a great restaurant and speaks well For the Indian community in Austin.

It have been a while since I had Indian food. Star of India provided a variety of Indian delicacies from tandoori chicken to somosas. They offer a $15.95 all you can eat buffet which includes entrees, salads, soup and desserts. Star of India also offers ala carte choices as well. Some of my favs were the lentil soup, somosas and lamb meatballs. My server was friendly and attentive. In addition, the restaurant manager came by to check on me, which I appreciated. The decor had an arabian feel to it with light, calming colors. There is also an abundance of free parking,The only feedback I will share is that the food could have been better heated. Loved the different flavors and varieties of Indian foods...

We were a party of 4, a Friday lunch. We were immediately sat and beverages were ordered. We went to browse the buffet to decide if we wanted that or order from the menu. Which we all chose the buffet with many popular selections. Majority of the items were tasty, some were very dry such as the tandoori chicken, and chicken tikka masala, their rice was dry and tasteless. Everything else were decent. Overall, was good. The steam tables did not keep all hot entrees hot, just warm. Coincidentally, I was here several months ago and recall the same problem. I enjoyed the rice dessert. All staff were very welcoming, attentive and helpful. Thank you.

This review is specifically for Star of India's buffet, which is an incredible value at $18 with a delicious and wide variety of curries, salads, dishes, soups, and desserts. The food is legitimately good Indian food with really rich flavors and thick curries. They have some of the most popular dishes like chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, samosas, and to my surprise lamb meatballs and goat curry. It's great to be able to have all of these rather than have to pick one dish and they change it up. For an Indian buffet, I feel this really as good as you can get. Service is friendly and quick to clear plates.

Came back again several years later this time to try their dinner buffet, which is only $18 and it absolutely did not disappoint! I was starving and I wanted a buffet and to find $18 buffet in Austin is such a steel. These types of deals just don't really exist anymore. It is also so incredibly worth it because there is goat curry. Go is usually so expensive so to have it included in the price was amazing. The variety was also really good. There were a lot of meat and vegetarian protein options as well as carbs. Good veggie selection as well. My only complaint is that the food was a little salty but honestly, everything was so good and it was such a good value. I would absolutely come back again and I definitely plan to. Service was also good.

This place has been open forever. My family used to take us here when I was a kid and I still visit as an adult today. I like to go here on quiet dates. It's perfect for spending time together and the space is very pretty. It's also open later than you would expect from a buffet! They have a menu if you want a la cart or something specific, but you can't beat the deal on the buffet. I've brought one date who was totally experienced with Indian food. He loved it. And I brought another date who had never tried Indian food. Also enjoyed it! Ha!The most experienced, and most well dressed waiter if I may add, has always been top notch with polite service. Thanks Star of India!

I ordered on DoorDash so can't say much about the ambiance/service, but the food here was delicious. Spent a lot of time in Austin cooking for myself so getting to eat something out was a treat, but I also have a soft spot for good Indian food and this meal didn't disappoint. The naan is very fluffy for my taste but that was fine, since it allowed me to pick up more curry haha. Definitely dining in here next time I'm in Mueller.

I've ordered online (delivery) several times before finally coming in for the buffet. Their buffet selection may be limited, but they happen to have my favorite dishes! It's perfect for me- Tandoori Chicken, Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Samosas, and of course naan. All at medium to mild spiciness. You pay and serve yourself. Buffet ends promptly on time, so arrive at least an hour before closing to enjoy. Kind hosts and well decorated seating area.

Had the buffet and it was terrible & cost $17 per person. Buy a frozen curry dinner from anywhere and it will be better than this place. They should be ashamed for how awful their food is.
