We went to Soto to celebrate my sibling's birthday. Employer Luis made our night extra special. Service was excellent and the food was excellent too! We love almost everything we ordered and came out rolling! The quality of the nigiris were the freshest you can have them. I've been to Japan and this is definitely on par with the freshness you get in Japan! It is pricey but it's the quality you are getting! First time here and it will definitely not Our last! I've tried many sushi places in Austin but Soto is seriously the best one on my list now! We ordered the following:* Nama Hotate - Hokkaido Scallop 4/5 good but not the best I've ever had. Quality is fresh! * Golden crab dumplings 1/5 wasn't anything special. There is pieces of crab meat in it but it was ok. * uni pasta- 2/5 It was super RICH so we couldn't eat it all. I was not fond to the noodles because it was more like a ramen with uni and a poached egg. * chili hamachi 5/5 we ordered twice! It was the best I've ever had! * crunchy salmon: 3/5 likes this roll more than the Soto 2.0 but the salmon was super thin where we couldn't taste the salmon. * Soto 2.0 2/5 the flavors were off balance and * chu toro 5/5 * sake Scottish salmon 3/5: yuzu with salmon was good just perfect the Ora king salmon nigiri more due to quality. * Ora king salmon 5/5 melted in your mouth!! Sooo good and balanced bite! * unagi 3/5 It was on the sweeter side* housemade potato chip 5/5 life changing! That unexpected crunch with the nigiri was soooo freaking delish. Texture and unlike anything I tasted before! * Spicy scallop 5/5 off menu but it was omg soooo good! * idk what is the name 5/5 it was loaded raw oyster was out of this world! Off menu item! * Aki No Kaze- 1/5 super medicinal and was not a fan. It tastes like cough syrup meds. * pina colada - 5/5 best pina colada I've ever had and I have tried many! * Crispy Sushi Rice 5/5 the texture of the crispy rice and the fish was out of this world! Sooo good and I wish we ordered this twice!! * Chu-Torodito 4/5 the candied jalapeños was a different bite and it was a good bite! Do we recommend this place? ABSOLUTELY YES! If you love sushi and never been here?! You are seriously missing out on life! It's a must try place!

This is a Happy Hour Review (4/5 Stars) for Soto South LamarGreat happy hour spot with an impressive menu! Parking is easy in the Lamar Union garage. I hadn't been back to Soto in years, and this HH menu was a great reason to return. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the HH menu online (hopefully, they add it to their website), so here it is for those planning ahead. We tried: Softshell crab tempura, mini sushi tacos, chef's choice, all of the nigiris, draft beer, hot sake, and the lychee martini. I love spicy sushi, so I had the Pari Hama Maki (serrano) and Spicy Tuna Katsu Maki--both solid picks! From the regular menu, we added shishito peppers, salmon over fire, and more nigiris.Service started slow but improved and felt well-coordinated. Dishes were cleared promptly, and we even got a surprise hello from a server who recognized us from another restaurant--such a nice touch! We sat outside, and the weather was surprisingly pleasant.Only hiccup: OpenTable marked my reservation as missed even though I was clearly there. Not a big deal, but something to note.Overall, an awesome visit--Soto HH is officially back in my rotation!

Soto has been a go-to of mine for a few years now. I'd rank them in the top 10 sushi spots in Austin due to the quality of food and service. The best bang for your buck would be to visit during the lunch hours. They have fantastic lunch specials! My favorite things on the menu are: spicy or truffle edamame, chili hamachi and kanpachi sashimi! Soto usually has a lot of diners when I visit so, I'd recommend getting a reservation to avoid a long wait!

Grabbed a last minute Friday night reservation. The place was popping off! Very lively ambiance, and loud. Our waitress was amazing and walked us through the each of our menus. They had a separate vegan/vegetarian menu for my vegan boyfriend which was amazing!! Made our night very easy.We both loved our nigiri pieces the best, would come back and just get that vs rolls. My personal favorite was the CHU TORO - MEDIUM FATTY BLUEFIN TUNA. Nigiri. Didn't know fish could melt like that in your mouth. Wow!Overall was left surprised, as I went in with low expectations. Can't wait to come back again!!

Came here for date night and it was incredible!!! One of my favorite sushi spots in Austin!! I loved all their truffle dishes and my favorite was the Hirame truffle!! The flavors are so umami I loved it and am still dreaming about it!! I also really liked the truffle risotto it was so creamy and delicious!! The service was amazing and our waitress was so knowledgeable!! The one thing I didn't like was the green tea tiramisu, the rum flavor was way too strong and not enough matcha flavoring.

Service was strange. We also wandered in on a Sunday cause the last three stops were closed. Food was good. Garage to park in was around the corner. Ambience was strange pumping loud club music on the middle of a Sunday with a light crowd while serving up 100$+ pp meals hah Overall, it had some unique dishes that were tasty if you're feeling like a lunch on the pricey side but at that price point there are also better options, maybe not in Austin tho? I don't know but certainly in LA or the Bay. I liked it and if nothing was open and I was in the area again I'd probably pop by again.

My new favorite restaurant in Austin!! Went for a dinner date and had the best service and help with the extensive menu. It was such a great experience that we came back for lunch the next week. A great lunch deal in my opinion! $28 for soup, salad, vegetable tempura, 5 nigiri, and one roll. Can't wait to come back and treat myself during a busy work week. Interior is clean as well with very kind staff. Everything has been amazing and so fun to try new foods. Haven't tried their bar yet but the drinks have looked great. Can't wait to come back and continue to explore more of the menu!!

Came to Soto for dinner before catching a show at Alamo Draft House. We had a reservation for inside at the "kitchen bar" but the host asked if we would be open to sitting outside (July in Austin - no thanks) otherwise we'd have to wait 30 minutes for a table. I was confused given we had a reservation and this put me in a mood (getting hangry), but we waited 10 minutes max for our table so no biggie. The food itself was okay - not the best, but certainly not bad. I'd place this in the middle... Many people I work with speak highly of Soto but I didn't see the hype - HOWEVER - anything blue tuna was a winner. It stood out amongst every other fish so would definitely recommend getting blue tuna Nigiri and/or the rolls that have blue tuna.

I'm a big fan of this place--especially for their happy hour! It's a great deal, and the vibe is always welcoming and chill. The uni pasta is one of my absolute favorites; it's rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced--definitely a must-try.I don't love everything on the menu but it is a place I would order nigiri from. Their fish is good quality. Service is always friendly and attentive, making for a really pleasant dining experience. Whether you're stopping in for happy hour drinks or enjoying a full meal, this spot never disappoints.A solid choice for good food, good service, and a relaxed atmosphere.
