I took photos but we ordered our bbq to go and the pictures we took later did not do the delicious bbq and sides much justice in our opinion. We ordered sausage, turkey and lean brisket along with pinto beans and cream corn. The service was friendly and helpful and wow, the ambience in this place....it oozed smoke (literally) and bbq history. The nostalgia was over the top. We thought all of our food was very good, especially the smoked turkey. The prices were the most reasonable that we have encountered at an authentic Central Texas bbq restaurant yet! My hubby is "the bean guy" and we order them everywhere we have bbq. He loved that the beans were a pinto but homemade ranch style. So very good. I would definitely return! It's worth a visit!

While visiting Lockhart. I had to visit the holy trinity of bbq spots in the area. Original Blacks, Kreuz, and Smitty's market. This was the 2nd spot on my list that I visited, but it was my favorite one. The staff was super friendly as we entered. Very welcoming as they let us come and film the bbq pit areas. It was cool to watch the process. It feels like it's been here forever which it has. The pit room is where you go to order your meats. I got the moist brisket, crumbly sausage, and pork rib. I really enjoyed the bark on the bbq here. It's a bit different to what I'm used to but I loved it. The crumbly sausage was so good. I don't normally get that texture at other bbq sausage spots. Then there's another room where everyone is seated to dine where they sell the sides and desserts. We got the chocolate pie which reminded me of my childhood. I really enjoyed Smitty's market.

Smitty's legacy runs deep in our family. My husband has been coming here since he was a child and his parents since they were children. There is much history in the soot filled bbq walls of Smitty's. You feel it, smell it, and taste it in the BBQ goodness that Smitty's produces. The BBQ pit masters cook up excellent, moist marbled brisket. But my personal favorite is the smoked turkey accompanied by sweet pickles. My husband and his family personally all LOVE the sausage. If you're not a sweet pickle fan, I suggest trying Smitty's with their BBQ. (Yummmmm). Everything is a La carte. Upon entering you order your protein. Then move into the "market" for the sides, drinks and desserts. There is plenty of family style seating available, first come first serve. If you go during lunch expect a line.

I'm quite shocked at the low reviews of Smitty's. Albeit, I only stopped at 2 bbq joints on my trip to Lockhart, it was by far my favorite of the two. Reasons being- 1. Flavor and 2. Pricing. Their brisket was sooo good and their half chicken had so much more flavor than my second stop. Loved the old school decorations within. It made me feel like I had taken a step back in time. There's no question that this will be a must stop the next time I'm in town!

Our first time in Lockhart, Texas to try tbbq! What better place than Texas bbq capital! We tried the brisket, sausage, and ribs!!!! All were so so good! The meat is tender, juicy and the servings are a lot! We love the brisket the most! So much meat with a little fat. The service was quick and all the workers were wonderful!! They listened to your order and quickly got you out the line! The place is huge with many tables- not many sides but enough, the meat here is so good! The hot sauce they have is so tangy with a hint of spice! The plus for our kids is the chicken game after-- itheres one arcade game, the workers gave my kids quarters so they can hear the chicken speak and give an egg with a prose inside! Smittya is a must for the meat!!!

The service was good... efficient but not super friendly. They serve saltine crackers and don't use forks. The beans and turkey were excellent. The brisket was a little dry. It is definitely old school but in a good way.

A couple of months ago I took my girlfriend to Smitty's for lunch and it was great. The Bbq, the sides, the service, and the Pitt area was great. The brisket was fabulous! If you are looking for a romantic restaurant then Smitty's is not the place. It's a charming old market. I recommend you get there when it opens because it does get busy. If you are looking for Texas bbq then Smitty's is a good place to go to. Oh.... There is plenty of street parking. Will be back!

So I could not leave Lockhart Texas without going by the famous Smitty's barbecue. This is the original barbecue place of Lockhart. It used to be cried to Marc, but the family split up and crates is its own barbecue place but all the local people loves Smitty's it's the original and has the best sausage rings in town so I picked some up for my dad and some for me. This is where the historical fire pit is and where they serve you your barbecue on butcher paper and not on Plates, so if you're in Lockhart, this is a visit. You will definitely enjoy it. They have brisket, shoulder, pork chops, prime, rib, sausage, and jalapeño sausage a variety of foods.

Have to agree with others who've found this place a little bit lame. I'll give it two stars for the sausage...which is some of my favorite. Yes, you get authentic TEXAS BBQ in the BBQ capital, Lockhart...but that's about it. The atmosphere sets the tone. Bottom line, it's incredibly disorganized...not a laid back place to go eat some BBQ. And laid back is the main ingredient for BBQ...in the way you should cook it and in the way you should eat it. Menu for meats is hit or miss re: what they'll actually have...The sides are pitiful...in a BBQ market as competitive as Central Texas, the sides matter. Here, they are an afterthought at best. I can see how the cash only thing could be a pain, but given the overall level of disorganization, I don't think the place could handle internet transactions quite honestly. It doesn't really seem like anybody has a specific job. The employees run around like angry ants after someone has stepped on the anthill. After you've finally gotten your order, waited in two separate, chaotic lines...guess what, no forks. Whatever...it's BBQ in Texas, you eat off butcher paper...I get it...The cherry on top is, there's only one napkin dispenser in the entire dining room...What starts off trying to make a point of original authenticity (its meat...use your hands) just winds up feeling kind of cheapassed. Buy some paper towels and put them on the tables...like every other BBQ joint in the free world. I think a week off to re-organize and become a little more efficient and customer friendly would be a good idea for the business and the diners.
