This bakery is absolutely incredible. Everything is fresh, delicious, baked JUST right, neither under nor over. The balance between sweet and savory is magnificent; even the flakiness of croissants (chocolate and otherwise) is balanced just right. We are SO HAPPY to have found this. Absolutely worth the drive.

I was in the area and decided to stop in for lunch. I was really happy with my Veggie Sandwich and French Onion soup. The bread on the sandwich was soft and the ratio of the many vegetables to bread was perfect. The soup had a great depth of flavor and was served nice and hot on a cold, foggy day.I thought the price was a little high, but I would 100% come back and try other sandwiches.

There are few things more comforting than a classic sandwich on homemade bread, and SF Bakery/Cafe has dialed in the recipe with a straightforward variety on the freshest sourdough and specialty breads for dine-in or grab & go. Each quality sando starts with generous portions of Boar's Head cuts and crunchy veggies layered between what I really came for (an indulgence on rare occasion, but worth the gluten and broken resolutions here) - pillowy-on-the-inside, slightly chewy, crusty/not-too-toasty-on-the-outside BREAD - sourdough, wheat (or focaccia, baguette, croissant..). Each loaf taking 18 hours to develop from a sourdough starter before being sliced and stacked with dressings of choice - a complete meal made with love. The employees and loyal patrons create a culture reminding us of old Austin - grounded in local business where people know your name and everyone is welcome.

This place was exactly what you would want it to be. The sandwiches were very tasty and were served fast. This is a good place to have a small lunch and some coffee or tea while doing your work on a laptop or having a lunch meeting.I would absolutely come back here with coworkers or clients because the food was good, the service was quick, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. The only reason for four out of five stars is because the staff was not in the best of moods. We all have our off days, but five out of five stars means perfection, and I am a literal person. That being said, this restaurant was fantastic.

I have been remiss in not updating my initial review for so long! I must have just gone when they were having an off day, because this place is now in my regular rotation. The bread is always soft and fresh and the sandwiches made with love and lots of fresh veggies. The staff are cheerful and welcoming. What a gem of a local spot!

They consistently have high quality products, and whenever I have their soup delivered it's always still hot. They're also local and a lot healthier than fast food.

Never been to a slower place for poorer service in Austin. Consistent in that they run out of material due to ... lack of planning? No one is shipping them the needed items? The wait staff is basically incompetent and no one seems to care, outside of one female manager who somehow keeps it together. When she's not there, it is chaos. People standing around in undefined wait lines, other people walk in and cut in line, no one says anything. Everyone waits 10-15 minutes for their order. I'm Done. Never again.

Quaint little shop with a good selection of baked goods and classic sandwich, salad, soups, that you can combo. The soup we had was really flavorful and the sandwich was great too. The pastry was also good. The service is super friendly and inviting as well. They were a bit busy during lunch and overwhelmed so it took a while but if you have a few minutes to wait it's worth it.

I've been coming to this place for about 25 years, even though I haven't lived in Austin for 20 years. Any time I'm in town, I try my damndest to make the trip to San Francisco Bakery & Cafe. It was amazing then and just as amazing now: it's like it never changed (in the best way). I love all the food but truth be told I go for the Club on sourdough almost every time because it's the perfect sandwich. The sprouts, THE CARROTS, and the awesomely fresh bread. With a side of Ruffles and the Blackberry Sage iced tea. Chef's kiss. Don't listen to anyone who has anything negative to say at all about this place. Sure it can get crowded at rush hour... BECAUSE ITS AMAZING. And sure they can run out of pastries toward the end of the day... BECAUSE ITS A BAKERY, and people love those pastries. The owner is the loveliest human you could be lucky enough to meet, I am so so so happy this place has lasted so many years. Here's to many more years to come.
