I have always been searching for west African restaurants after leaving Ghana several years ago, during a visit, where I had the opportunity to delve into this amazing cuisine. I always talk this cuisine up to my friends and family and so I was excited when I came across this restaurant on yelp and decided to go give it a try.Upon entering this facility , it looked like I was in a pub. There were no windows and the decor was very prominent when it came to looking like a place where you come for drinks in a sketchy place. The menu was pretty simple and straightforward, and when we tried ordering a few items, the owner decided to instruct us on not ordering too many items as it would become too much even though we were here to try several different items. It was very offputting and the owner kept on talking. He told us that his food was amazing and he kept on talking without giving us a second to breathe. It was very overwhelming. He even promised to not charge us if we didn't like the food. Finally got our food which included a fish pastry, jollof rice, traditional stew, and veggie spinach dish. The fish pastry was bland and tasteless. The jollof rice was overpowered by the tomatoes. The traditional stew was bland and tasted like tomato soup. The vegetarian dish had lots of fish in it, which was unacceptable. The owner even bragged about having many vegetarians and vegans come eat at his place. If that was the case, why did this happen? Oh, I guess we were supposed to order the dish in a special way, even though we explored stated that we have a vegetarian. Prices were pretty expensive and service was terrible. The owner spends more time acting like he's in a club rather than taking care of his customers and constantly boasts about himself and his food, at inappropriate intervals. Was hitting on our friend and being inappropriate and generally wasting our time. I flagged him down in order to get the bill at the end at which point he looked at me and continued on talking to his friend. Terrible. Avoid it all costs. And of course, he charged us and didn't even bring us the billSketchy, off-putting, and one of the worst/embarrassing places I've been to in a while.

The place was a little dingy feeling and stuffy, and the food was a bit salty for my taste. But it was interesting to try a different cuisine, and the owner was very friendly!

I give the establishment four stars because of the affordability of some of the food options (try the $3 menu) and friendliness of the staff. I have been on two separate occasions. The meat pie and fish rolls were both filling and a great price for those on a budget. Second time I tried a spinach dish and jollof rice both weee very yummy and light. I was surprised to learn the restaurant has been at that location for 15 years! I'm a native austinite and never knew this. Definitely worth a try!

I knew the food would be fuego when I walked in and saw a meeting of the uncles!!!! If you go to any African or middle eastern spot and see a gang of men "holding court", be prepared that the food will " go dumb"!!!!!The portion size of my plate looked small at first until I really dug in to find two big a$$ chicken drum sticks. The. I immediately get faint because I realized that I had only received half my meal. And had yet to receive the spinach or bean cakes(moi moi) to the table. Once they arrived I really look as if I were not eating alone, which I wasAnyway. I sat slurping and sucking, chomping and chewing, for at least a solid hour. While readi NC a book in my left and savagely attacking m food with my right! All the while this groups of 8-12 happy Nigerian men sat screaming and laughing and clinking drinks and ordering dish after dish of piping hot plates! Overall my food was crazy good and I wanted to finish reading my book but my bed was calling my name! The itis is for sure to follow, as dessert if you will, as soon as you are done eating here. The cashier/server/ shop attendant/ presumably the owner said "Noooo don't go, stay a while longer" to which I replied "I can't stay or I'll be sleep on this table" It was that dang-on good!!!!

This is the pinnacle of "hole in the wall" and I had a great time as this was my first experience with Nigerian food. There was a good selection to choose from and I'm told by my friends that this is an authentic spot to choose from, so I'm glad to have tried them out! Jollof Rice was my favorite.

First time eating at this place and i ordered egusi with fish and Jollof w rice. Needless to say this was probably the most flavorless egusi I've had in a while... (the worst was in Colorado Springs) , the quality was there but the flavors weren't . The dish lacked spice and salt alone wasn't enough for the egusi all in all i would give that a 4/10. As for the Jollof rice, it was OK, but just that . It was good enough if you just were craving Jollof but nothing special, a little too much tomato paste and not enough spices . I gave that a rating of 5/10. The service was ok , i ordered through grubhub to skip the wait the owner looked pretty occupied by some regulars but got to me when he saw me standing at the bar by myself for about 2 minutes. The ambiance wasn't anything special , average bar scene . All in all, i feel that egusi and Jollof are a pretty good representation of an Nigerian restaurant, but from this experience im sure there are better African cuisine restaurants in the Austin area , if anyone knows of any please let me know!

I agree with all the customers that said the place was unkept and the food we purchased was horrible. I have never tasted such a tasteless food like we did from this place, and I am usually not too critical when it comes to food. We bought two different dishes, and both were flavorless.I will never go back.
