Quirky place with different events. Someone here is a great curator, because have never been to a lackluster event here. Sa-Ten right there, plenty room. Good venue, great shows.

You looking for the far out fringe of the Austin Experimental Performance scene? You've Found It. You've Gone to the Edge of the World and Fallen Off.The Museum of Human Achievement is in the same industrial/artist/studio complex as the Saiten Coffee House. It literally is an empty factory space with some minimalist changes to make it a performance space. They built a large very high L-Shaped stage. They bought a few cheap church pews and theatre seats so you can sit down. There ain't no air conditioning. There ain't no toilets. Use the portapotties near the door. You want a beer?If you are lucky, a friend of the artist brought an ice chest with some cold ones for sale. But you won't always be lucky, so bring your own liquid refreshment with you. There is a sound system and lighting but don't expect fancy-schmantz.They can and do project pictures off the back wall. That's all they got.Mostly empty space, cobwebs around the rafters and a lot of heat.Who performs here?People who absolutely can't get a gig anywhere else.People who absolutely have brass balls.People willing to try things that no professional in their right mind would try.Experimentalism rules.Fringe rules.Lunacy rules.Does merit rule?Well, when the mad scientist is experimenting,a lot of her experiments blow up in her face.Other experiments produce fantastical monsters.A typical night at the Museum of Human Achievement careens from magnificent to putrid to magnificent to putrid. It never matches any expectation of what you think you are going to see.The going sometimes can be really really rough. But as William Holden says in the Wild Bunch,"I wouldn't have it any other way."
