Ok. I have been going to Musashino since 96 when it was on Mopac near Anderson and Tyson Cole was a sous chef there. Before covid it had gone through a rough patch and their sushi had lost the beauty and taste. Their new location brings a fresh, yet traditional, breath to limited Austin sushi offering. I love the new location. The menu is smaller than what it was, but everything is good and the service is top notch.

Came with a group and had the place to ourselves! What we got in order of most to least favorite:-super deluxe-tokujo- depending on your likes you'll range from loves to hates but it's a good mix of what they've got!-sake aburi-Sake toro diablo-BE toro- toro hagashi was unavailable -Ozzie ii-Big southern-veggie tempura- maybe I'm just not a tempura fan anymore? -Toro taku handroll- the pickled radish was just a little too much Service was fantastic. It's just hard to give a 5 with so many good sushi competitors in town!

My boyfriend and I have been coming to this place since we first started dating. We have been together for almost 7 years and it's still our favorite place to go for every anniversary, Valentine's Day and birthday dinner. The food is high quality and I've never had a bad dish here. The servers are nice and the ambiance is amazing. I brought my dad and sister here and they said they loved it as well. Some of favorites are the Sushi Regular which is the chefs choice of 7 nigiri's and the shima zushi nigiri is amazing. As far as rolls go the black widow is amazing. Probably my favorite roll in Austin. But always ask the server what they recommend.

Musashino is one of our favorite sushi spots in Austin. We enjoy coming here for date nights and when friends are in town. Their sushi is consistent, fresh, and beautifully presented. Some of their rolls are a bit more fusion-y, but they are still delicious and worth trying if you're feeling adventurous. Personally, I would recommend ordering their nigiri (get any of the sushi or sashimi deluxe entrees) as I think sushi is best in its purest form, and they execute it so well. The Japanese decor creates a lovely dining experience. We enjoy being able to see the sushi chefs behind the counter.Service can sometimes be slow when they're busy. If you don't have a reservation, it would be smart to show up right when they open at 5:30 PM.

I came to Musashino around 6 months ago, and really enjoyed the food, but my recent visit fell flat. We opted to sit outside to avoid an hour long wait, but the service was especially slow and they barely checked in on us throughout the meal. Normally it's not a big deal, but we were getting bit intensely by mosquitoes outside (so be aware if you dine outdoors in the summer). Onto the food, we ordered the age tofu that was pretty solid - a nice shareable dish. The super deluxe set was a bit disappointing. There was just too much rice, and the texture was very grainy and almost undercooked. The fish was ok, not as good as I remember and some pieces were very chewy. I think this could a be solid sushi restaurant if they were more consistent in their quality, and either hired more staff or made sure to check in more frequently.

Update 01-31-2024Mushashino consistently delivers first rate sushi! As usual, we started with miso soup and a large house hot saki... both delicious. Our second course, as always, was the avocado kama, an avocado partially scooped out and refilled with crabmeat. Nice sauce on the top, outstanding as always. Something new on the menu this time, fried oysters... fixed wonderfully, and oh so tasty! Then began the sushi parade... two blue fin tunas, both fatty, one big eye, the fatty one seared... to die for! Next up, salmon two ways, one king, one fatty... Yum! Followed by yellowtail tuna, one belly, one cheek: both delish! We paused a bit... more hot saki!Jumping back in, first up was something new for us, seared Wagyu, perhaps an odd thing to order at a first rate sushi place, but it was great. We'll definitely get that again! Next on the plate was unagi (fresh water eel), served piping hot... always one of my favorites. On the recommendation of our sushi chef (we always sit at the sushi bar), we had the smoked escolar (mackerel), definitely a Texas-tasting fish! LOL More hot saki...We next enjoyed a pile of tobiko, served battleship-style, very salty and tasty too. More hot saki... A round of salmon skin sushi followed... hard to describe, just get it if you can... At last, we ordered dessert - a combination of uni and salmon roe, again served battleship-style... heaven on a plate, and a great finish to a deliriously delicious dinner! Highly recommend Mushashino! It's a high price tag, but worth every penny IMHO!

Finally had the chance to explore one of Austin's OG sushi spots, and it didn't disappoint. Tucked away just north of UT in an unassuming location, this restaurant pleasantly surprised with its delicious offerings. While Mushashino might not boast a super fancy ambiance - leaning towards the eclectic side it does feature an extensive menu. From traditional and hand rolls to specialty rolls and appetizers, there's something for everyone.Opting for the sushi deluxe, each bite was intriguing, with the fatty tuna and eel roll emerging as my favorites. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a happy hour, as it would likely make me a more frequent visitor. For those seeking a unique sushi experience off the beaten path, Mushashino is worth checking out

I loved our Musashino dinner and would have given five stars BUT the reservation system was not desirable! They wanted $10 deposit per person before you can make a reservation. We ended up walking in which worked out just fine! We will be back for sure because my sushi deluxe was delicious- great value for 7 pieces of fresh sushi and 3 pieces of spicy salmon served with salad and soup! It was very quiet when we came in at 530pm but filled up around 7pm. It was hopping on a Friday night! Our service was friendly even when Grace was serving many tables in a busy night! They have a dog friendly patio! We've always sat at their outdoor patio because of our pup. And it was perfect Al fresco weather last night. I finally got to check out the inside of the restaurant and it was nice and cozy in there. I might have to dine inside on our next visit!

One of the OG sushi spots in Austin (circa 1995), the Avocado Kama, was calling my name, so we ended up reserving it at the last minute. Keeping the Edomae (Edomeaezushi) style intact from Japan, it's a staple of Austin, and when we barely had sushi spots then, they were a pioneer in many ways. Let's get into the review.Pros:- Yelp's Waitlist worked well- Dedicated parking lot- Friendly staff- Quick reservations (called)- Food was deliciousSide Notes:- Call for reservations - Yelp's Waitlist worked well- Closed on Mon and Sun- Limited hours (check on Yelp)- Don't order directly from chefs- Average prices around the area- Order takeout (do it in advance)What We Got: - Hot Green Tea - Avocado Kama- Tori Karaage - Big Southern Roll- Toro Taku Hand Roll- Unagi Hand Roll- A5 Wagyu - Ton of Nigiri SummaryThis place is always somewhere where the quality stays mostly the same. It's excellent sushi, and the prices are on par with some higher-end places for the fish I like (e.g., fatty tuna). With so many options in Austin now, it's hard only to come here (from Tsuke Edomae to Otoko), but you must try this place at least once! Hours: They are closed on Monday and Sunday. Also, only open for dinner, starting at 5:30 PM and closing at 9 PM (9:30 PM on FRI/SAT). Wait: We requested to be on the waitlist on Yelp, and it was pretty accurate. We were about 25 minutes away, with roughly five parties in front of us. We sat right away at the bar (party of two) when we got there. Parking: Parking is dedicated to the building tenants, so it's easy to find parking. Customer Service: The service was excellent, but it was a full house, so we had to ask a couple of times for a water refill, but no big deal. Our waitress was super friendly, so the wait times were barely noticeable. What We Loved: A5, Avocado Kama, and fatty tuna FTW!!! So GOOD! We didn't drink alchy beverages this time, but they have Japanese Whisky, so try a Japanese Old Fashioned or wine/sake pair for your dinner! Opportunities/Misc: It would be great to talk to the sushi chefs and order from them, but they are busy pushing food out. They will interact from time to time, but I love that interaction, so I wish we could order from them directly (ops nightmare, I know). We also ordered takeout for our mom, and that took a bit longer towards the end, so be prepared to call/order in advance so you are good to go when you are ready to leave. Again, it is one of the staples here in Austin. Even if I don't go every weekend, it's a place that holds a special place in my heart, as it was around when I was going to college in Austin. Quality is excellent, and customer service is forever friendly.

Having made reservations, we anticipated a seamless dining experience at this sushi restaurant. The sushi was notably fresh, indicating high-quality ingredients and skilled preparation. The service also met expectations, with attentive staff. However, the handrolls were a letdown, as they felt overpriced for the portion size. Despite this setback, the overall experience was still pleasant, thanks to the restaurant's commitment to freshness and attentive service.
