very rude and unfriendly staff. They treat you like they are doing you the biggest favor. We asked them a question, he just kept checking us out ? They won't even answer you even if it's how are you? Or how is your day. Avoid these stupid people. The elderly man probably the owner is the rudest person. We have had this experience twice.

Called ahead to order meat. I am so glad I did because there was a line of people waiting for their meat to be cut. Service is a bit slow, I couldn't even get the butchers attention to ask him for my order. In terms of grocery items- very limited supply. There's frozen items such as naans, samosas, and also spices, sauces and your normal Indian- Pakistani cooking essentials. I noticed a couple of expired/ not so fresh items. The gentleman at the register was very nice and helpful in what we needed. If I'm in the area, I'd come by if I need something but I would be very selective and cautious in what I'm picking out!

My undergraduate advisor and I have stayed fairly close even though I've been in grad school for ages now. Over the years, I've had my fair share of home made Indian food; my advisor is first generation who came to the US late in the 1970s. I've even had the great honor of attending the wedding of his daughter, for which I specially bought a lengha, choli, and wrap. Needless to say, my interest in Indian culture and food has been fed by my undergraduate advisor and my close Indian friends. A few weeks ago, Dr. Singh made me some mutton bryiani, and it was delicious! Hot, spicy, and the mutton was so tender! I had to recreate it ASAP.I was told to go to Madina Market for the goat and spices. Madina Market gets their goat from local ranchers. They are taken to Dallas to be butchered per Muslim guidelines, and then brought back on Wednesday and Saturdays. I'm also told that the goat and lamb are organic because they are locally raised by ranchers who raise them for their own families to consume. The goat wasn't cheap (4.95 a lb) but it wasn't as expensive as other organic cuts of meat that you see at Whole Foods. Also, if you buy half a goat, the price is 4.75 I think. It's been 2 weeks since I was there so the details are now fuzzy. I wound up buying half a goat (10-11 lbs) because my mom wanted some as well. Also, the butchers there are very good about cleaning off all the fat, tough skin, tendons, and other annoying non-meat bits from the goat. I also requested it to be cubed. The rest of the store is a little dirty and disorganized, but I found everything I needed. Spices there were much cheaper than at HEB, and there was a wide variety of sauces and spice mixes. Since I was making biryani from scratch, I bought some tumeric, cumin, carmadon, garlic ginger paste, and 10 lbs of basmati rice. I had all the other stuff at home. There were also fresh samosas on the counter along with some injera (Ethopian bread). Overall, I like it, and I'd come back. However, if you're not used to strong smells and "strange" ethnic foods, you might want to stay away.

Since I moved from LA to Austin few months ago, things were new to me here. The butcher took more time in cleaning and haven't seen such kind of process in California. During the cleaning process the butcher threw off more than 10% of the meat. Perhaps I got a bad portion that day . I Inquired the person on the billing counter why the meat was not pre-cut as it used to be in California (Which of course will save the wait time. The shop keeper had raised his voice and said he was doing the business for 24 years and that is how the process all over US, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc.... . I really couldn't understand why he should yell when a customer asked a simple question. I felt he was highly unethical. So I left the place and decided not to come there at any cost. He may be doing business for more than 2 decades, but he did not learn how to deal with customers dot.

Good selection of middle eastern AND Indian and Turkish/Arabic items. Have not tried the butcher, but I've heard good things. Was checking out one day, and they had fresh samosas at the counter, which were quite reasonably priced and tasted good. I normally stop in for snacks and other goodies - interesting flavors and selection. Good spice selection also. Nice counter help.

I have been shopping at Madina for about a year now. The store is a little small, but has what ever I need. The aisle are a litte narrow (only one cart can fit in them) for my liking, but there is so much stuff and so limited space that I can understand why. The people who work there are really nice (one person even helped me carry a 25 lb bag of rice to my car). I find the prices are reasonable and the selection of meat really good. You can either order the meat before hand and they will have it ready for you or you could check out their fridge that has some selection of meat already cut up ( so no waiting). All in all I make a trip about every 3 weeks to stock up on my supplies and always find something new to try out or stuff I didn't know that I needed to have : )

After eating at Al-Demashqi, I decided to go to what seemed to be an Indian market. Mom had tried some Indomie noodles, which I got from H Mart a while back, and liked it, so I hoped I might find some here. There were no Indomie noodles here, but I found some other items to buy instead. Here is what I bought: one rice pudding mix (Falak brand), which I hope to put pistachios on top of, two Turkish candy cones (one for me, and one for mom), and a bag of Turkish gummies (Yumy Yumy). I had never seen Turkish gummies before, although Haribo makes some of their gummies in Turkey, but that is different. After I paid, my eyes were caught by a mysterious dessert item on the counter, which had red and green dots, which reminded me of a Christmas fruitcake. The man at the register gave me one for free; he told me it was Ladoo. I ate it, once I got home; not bad, but a bit crumbly.

I'm in town for business and after doing some on-line research I decided on Madina Market. I am very pleased with my decision as this place far exceeded my expectations!!! All the food was fresh, the staff were very friendly and attentive. I have not had Halal cuisine of this caliber in many years, perhaps ever. I ordered the lamb tikka kabob and highly recommend. They custom cook each order!!! A must try place!
