LZR, formally known as La Zona Rosa, has been an Austin music venue staple for a long time. I've seen many bands play here in its previous life; G. Love and Special Sauce and Bone Thugs N Harmony to name a few. LZR is now an event space used for music, film and other events. I've been back for a SXSW party and most recently, my company's yearly conference after-party. The venue has a great floor plan. There is a spacious patio area for mingling when you walk in the front entrance. As you make your way inside, the space opens up and is perfect for a band or film screening. There were two bars on either side of the venue and nice, clean indoor restrooms! A huge plus was the A/C. We had over 300 people inside and it didn't feel crowded and it stayed cool, which was appreciated given the humidity outside. There is also a parking lot next door. My company brought in four food trucks and there was still plenty of room for everyone to walk around and wait for their food. Overall, a great space for any event conveniently located downtown.

Venue is among the priciest in Austin, but it's what we wanted for our wedding (and brings back memories of concerts past). We tried for more than 2 months to book LZR for available dates and ultimately were forced to give up or lose our backup venue. The venue manager was initially unresponsive, then impossible to move forward with. We asked but were never sent a contract or terms and conditions that would allow us to move forward in placing a firm hold or booking our event. Got the impression that LZR may be more interested in multi-day corporate events than single-day private events. For us, it proved miserable trying to make this work, and there was a stark contrast in professionalism and attitude between LZR and other venue managers around town. Maybe you'll have a better experience and outcome, but we cannot in good conscience recommend trying.
