Kinda Tropical

Located on the East side of Austin is a former gas stationed turned into a hipster local establishment that echoes waves of former Austin. Kinda Tropical finds a way to survive in a commercialized world of major chains from NY or LA. The locals know this place is what makes Austin so great. They have regular flea market pop-ups, tattoo flash sales during regular events, and music on the back stage at times as well.The happy hour here is great and the burger with pineapple is by far one of my favorites. Drinks can be a little pricey for the fancy stuff however the local beer is well priced and the frozen machine when working has a punch worth the price.Service is simple - don't be a jerk and clean it up yourself. They'll bring your food and many times clean up th elect dishes however they also offer bins for the baskets and glassware so clean it up yourself and let them cook!Brunch is a must if you are looking for something laidback and unique to Austin. Do not expect a posh place with instagrammable photo spots - this isn't it as this place is a real of place for the locals.

Every time I've dined here I have loved the food and had a great experience!! Great vibes outside with lots of seating and good music. You order at the bar inside and they bring the food out to you. Perfect place for dinner with friends or a casual date night. They have great healthy options while still being so delicious. Loved all the vegetarian options too. The Sriracha carrot hummus is soo good. Loved the freshness of the sesame salad. Yellow coconut curry was perfect with added chicken just needed a little spice and it's hearty without making you too full. The burger is great and it seemed like everyone there was eating it because they were carrying one out every 5 minutes. I wish it had more pickles on it or some other acidic taste, but it was still pretty great. It doesn't come with fries, have to get those separate, but the curly fries are great!! The fried shrimp are cooked perfectly and loved the Thai flavors that come with them. This has become a go to spot for me to bring friends and family visiting in town. It's easy, it's delicious, and it's a fun environment.

Great spot for first dates or casual date night. It's off E 7th with plenty of parking and a big patio.The menu is typical bar food with an Asian twist (pull find chili crisp or soy sauce infused into dishes). The double patty smash burger smothered in cheese is delicious and if you're feeling "kinda tropical," you can add a pineapple slice.Wings were a bit too salty while the queso was pretty good. Bartenders aren't the most welcoming but the overall place gives self-service vibes.

We came to Kinda Tropical for a thrift market which was so fun! I got the mango marg and then the pina colada to drink. Definitely get the large, the small is pretty small. You walk up to a counter to order. It can be a little confusing since there are multiple doors to enter in to get to the bar and a line forms but it's not completely orderly. You order the food and drinks at the bar and take a number to your table inside or outside. The chips were crunchy and salty and the queso was great! The sesame oil left a strong underlying flavor to the dip. It was creamy and smooth. Very solid comforting yet elevated queso dip. The burger was great! Flavorful party, melty cheese, with onions to cut through the grilled beef flavor. A classic burger that fulfills that craving for a burger without being oily or greasy.

Cute spot with a spacious patio perfect for large groups and is dog friendly. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the service was friendly. Great vibe for a casual meal or drinks outdoors. There is plenty of parking nearby within a few blocks too.

This place is a gem! From the outside, you wouldn't expect much. But it's an old gas station converted to a fun restaurant. We ordered at the bar and sat outside. Plenty of seating and dogs are welcomed. Ordered the burger (added bacon) and order of yucca fries and French fries. And OMG! The burger was beyond tasty and the yucca fries were a delightful surprise. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Had great seasoning and even better dip. This is a great place to chill with friends or kick back a few drinks and bites. I wish I took pictures of everything but we dug in before I could.

Came here for drinks and we loved it!! I got the jalapeño margarita and it was delicious!! Not to sweet and had a nice kick to it!! I also got the chicken wrap but it was ok. Service was really good!!

The women's restroom had a horrible and strong weed smell, and it gave me a terrible migraine. I just wanted to get something to eat before going to the airport, but I regret coming here.

This is a cute place! Definitely attracts a crowd of characters but made for fun people watching. The decor is funky and unique, and we really liked the chips and salsa we ordered. Didn't try any entrees but they all looked good. We liked some drinks more than others, but the Tito's Frescas were our favorites.

One of my absolute fave gems of ATX. Food is incredible and so is the low key backyard atmosphere. I never go and not get the Yucca fries. Breakfast Tacos are delish. Try the Temperizo for a meatless option, super tasty with a kick. They seriously have the best sauces and dips, all house made and fresh. The staff behind the counter is always kind and helpful with recs! I Was too hungry forgot to take pics!
