TLDR I'm a fan right out of the starting gate. A little pricier but substantial and tasty. Will gladly return for more.I have a habit of menu shopping places I'm considering trying out or when I'm craving an order from a familiar place and seeing what the budget can do. Full on order-in-the-basket so I can see all the fees, not just add up menu prices. Occasionally I pay for this by not backing out of ordering and hitting the wrong button when I pick up the phone again, resulting in an edible version of Bob Ross's happy little accidents. This is one of the best results. I had been considering four starters/sides as an introduction to the place, but for a couple bucks less I'd moved over to a full dinner plate and starter.TEMPURA SWEET POTATO is a generous delight. It's cross slices about the size of the top of a hostess cupcake. The batter was light, the homemade tempura sauce spot on, the sweet potato a pleasant texture and properly cooked. They arrive in a box twice the size of the little single-burger, side salad size foam clamshells we're all familiar with.BEEF YAKINIKU came in one of those divided meal trays and both sides were packed full of tender beef, vibrant veggies, and a sauce which was a little sweet but mostly savory. Lovely flavors, nothing scary for beginners, I would put this in front of my Midwestern parents and expect them to dig in with minimal reserve. Rice came in one clamshell, salad and dressing in another, miso in a third container. I don't remember anything standout about the miso but I really enjoyed sipping that on a cold night. For a standard salad, I thought theirs was particularly fresh and tasty. Even without the full sit-down restaurant experience I have no problem saying the $22 price is fair. The original online perusal was very after hours so I had to schedule a delivery order to be able to see full descriptions and pics if available. I'd scheduled 6pm and the accidental order happened in the four o'clock hour--delivery was exactly as scheduled/notified by default choice GrubHub via the Yelp page, between 6 and 6:20pm.I expect my leftover tempura and rice will make fine onigirazu in the next day and a half.****Edit: I was right! The rice and sweet potatoes together with some bits I had in the fridge--cheese, mustard, seasonings, a fried egg--proved spectacular in a sheet of nori!

We were seated immediately, which was a nice surprise, especially for a Sunday night. The restaurant surprisingly didn't have many customers, just us and two other tables. Kikko Special Ramen - I was immediately impressed by the first sip. The broth was a rich blend of pork and chicken, tasting much like a classic tonkotsu--creamy, savory, and full of flavor. The bowl came generously topped with both pork and chicken chashu. The pork chashu was full of flavor while the chicken chashu could have been more tender and flavorful, as it was unseasoned. The egg was a highlight, cooked to perfection with a silky, soft yolk that added a lovely richness to the dish. A small letdown was that I couldn't really pick up on the flavor of the black garlic oil that was supposed to be in the ramen; a bit more of that umami boost would've been great. The service was top-notch--friendly and attentive. Overall, the laid-back vibe and the delicious food made it a great experience. Kikko Ramen is definitely going on my list of go-to spots, and I'm looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu!

I placed an order for pick up: Tonkatsu ramen (mild) and some crab puffswhen i got home the soup was super warm still and everything was packed up great. however:if you are super spicy hot sensitive like me- i struggled with the mild. I called them and asked for next time I order, what would be the best thing to put on the modifications so it wouldn't be so spicy as I was struggling. The manager (i think) told me so happily that he would make me a new one no problem!!So now, back at home with my (not spicy at all) tonkatsu and (DeLICIOUS) crab puffs, I can definitely say I'll be ordering there again! Super super yummy!
