Our favorite tapas in ATX. Been a few times now and will definitely be back. Good selection of wine and drinks. The only negative is the beer list. Still seems odd that the Emer and Rye chain has amazing food but terrible bottled beer.

This is a Spanish tapas styled restaurant and I was excited to try it.The interior is so beautiful! Even the bathrooms are fancy! This looks like a place where you would need a reservation. We did make a reservation but there were plenty of open seats. I've eaten in Spain before and was really surprised that Kalimotxo did not have paella, which is the traditional Spanish rice dish. I feel like it's such a classic that it should not be missed and in fact, the only rice dish they had was a vegetarian dish, Bomba rice and mushrooms. I have nothing against vegetarian dishes but I usually prefer dishes with meat. We did end up getting it and while the mushrooms were flavorful, the rice really soaked up the sauce causing the overall dish to be salty. If you eat this with chips, it would be a nice balance. Tapas are meant to be shared dishes and that's exactly what we did! We ordered Boquerones en Vinagre, Pork milanesa, Croquetas de Jamón, and Bayonne Ham & Anchovy. The croquetas were so good! I would get this again. Probably skip on the pork milanesa, which we actually didn't know what it was. The egg is beaten and poured on top of what appears to be fried pork. This is okay except I feel like it's such a basic dish and would much rather get more of the tasty, smaller bites. You order by writing the number of each dish you want on the menu. You could have tally marks but personally I feel that could be confusing....two tallies could look like the number 11 but definitely confirm with your server!Street or valet parking.

This is a pleasant surprise to the Austin food scene - serving really tasty tapas. Maybe the best in Austin. We ordered a bunch of plates and everything was absolute perfection. The restaurant is swanky and the service was impeccable.Hope they can keep operating at this caliber as it was truly a wonderful experience.

A new(ish) restaurant under the Arrive hotel (where Vixen's Wedding used to be).Love the new concept of Spanish wine and tapas! Every bite was delicious and fresh (especially the anchovies, jamón, and tuna). The croquetas melt in your mouth and are a must try. Bacalao reminded me of fish and chips from a pub (aka nothing outstanding). We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. Definitely worth a try!

Finally got the chance to check out Kalimotxo with some friends during their happy hour, which is every day from 3-5. After seeing it on social media for months, it's been on my list for a while. I am Spanish, myself, and am usually picky when it comes to Spanish food in the U.S., as it is oftentimes inauthentic and too expensive. Kalimotxo was a modern spin on typical Spanish dishes. Soon after sitting down, our server Ruben brought out some olives and "callos", which is a typical tapa made with chickpeas and meat. The callos were flavorful and authentic, but definitely a really small portion for 4 people. Next, we ordered jamón with chips ($12). The jamón was dry and lacked flavor and it was weird to serve it with chips. That's not traditional and I've never eaten it that way in Spain. The whole dish had perhaps 2 pieces of jamón ripped up into smaller pieces. The patatas bravas were tasty, as were the boquerones. One thing I will say is I think it would be important for all servers to really know details about the menu. For example, one of my friends asked our server what boquerones are, and our server said "it's like a Spanish sardine" which is not true. Boquerones are the anchovy fish before it is dried and prepared as a traditional anchovy. Finally, the croquetas de bacalao were surprisingly tasty! This may have been my favorite thing we ordered. Not pictured is the wine and cider we ordered. Both were good! All in all...PROS: happy hour every day with good deals for drinks and food. We also did not have a reservation and were easily able to get a table for 4 on a Saturday. Service was friendly and the space was well-decorated and aesthetically pleasing. CONS: expensive and very small portions. Very unique and "out there" dishes, making most of the menu not super authentic to traditional Spanish cuisine.

Authentic, high end Spanish fare in a stylish environment. We came here for New Year's Eve. I may be slightly biased because I did not know dinner would be at 10:30 PM. So, I was super full by the time I came here after pre-dinner, lol.Not the best pre-cursor to a giant, 6 course prie fixe meal ($95).I guess I will break down the meal by each course. Primera: Four bite sized items. These contained lots of exotic ingredients (pickled anchovy, crab, roe, beef tartare, Jamon with croqueta). I had bites of each and they were yummy.Segundo: Tuna Crudo - I had a bite of this. Seemed fine.Charcuterie - I had nibbles of each and the best item was definitely the crispy baguette with the tomato butter. Also had 3 types of cheeses and 3 types of meats.Cuarto: Paella - I love paella, and this one was disappointing :( Slightly bland and very mushy.Quinto: Texas Prime Steak - Delicious, seemed to be cooked rare, my favorite. The roasted mushrooms were flavorful heaven.Sexto: Dessert - Basque cheesecake ice cream with sherry - wasn't the biggest fan. Really salty - I love a good sweet and salty combination but this one aired on being overwhelming. It was an huge amount of food for the amount we paid - I just wish we had been hungry, lol.Staff was attentive, but had weird vibes - perhaps of all the uneaten food they had to bust from our table, lol.

Amazing experience! We made a reservation for a Saturday night dinner and got seated at a high top near the bar. There was a dj that added to the fun yet upscale ambiance.I ordered an espresso martini that was yummy with strong coffee flavor. We had the croquettes which were deliciously crispy and creamy at the same time. My favorite bite! The calamari was yummy as well, the salsa verde and aioli were flavorful and really elevated the flavor. The papas were soft inside with a gentle crisp on the outside. The sauces brightened up the flavors perfectly. Would definitely revisit!

We had heard about this place and whenever my oldest daughter comes to visit, we have to try new places to eat. This day was Kalimotxo! We made reservations because around Austin, you just never know. However, when we arrived the place was not that full, but it was pleasantly festive and they had a DJ playing all the music you wanted to hear. Right when we were seated Daniel, our server showed up and took drink orders. Daniel returned with the drinks and explained how to order and we went in! All of the plates are shareable and served family style. You can see from the photos that the presentation is very nice, but the standouts for us;- Croquetas de Jamon, these little jewels were cheesy, crispy bites of awesome. Some might find it a bit overly cheesy, but I loved it- Fried Calamari, yeah, yeah we have all had this, but something about the squid ink croquetas made this stand out. The only knock on this is i wish they had more tentacles, we only got one on each of the 3 orders we placed- Jamon wrapped Monk fish with white beans, this was really , moist and flaky and the white beans paired wellAll in all, this is a solid spot to check out, but be aware, it is not your traditional food from Spain, rather a very creative spin on it. We will keep this in our rotational food outtings

First review of the new year and I wanted to write about an excellent dining experience. Alas, Kalimotxo fell short. First, we were seated by the main door on a chilly windy day even though the restaurant was nearly empty on a Wednesday. We had a sweet and well-meaning server but she was clearly untrained and overwhelmed when we asked about gluten-free options (I'm not sure she knew what gluten was and proceeded to tell us that the bomba rice and several other items had gluten, which they didn't once we checked with the kitchen). Eventually, a different server came by and took away our menus - not even checking if we had ordered yet. The drinks were really tiny portions for $15 - not even half a whiskey glass quantity and that's with a huge ice cube in it. Food was bland and completely uninteresting. The bomba rice - costing $28 - could benefit from some herb or seasoning. We actually didn't even finish having half of it between the two of us because it was so bland. The peppers were the only item with some flavors in the sauce. We were really surprised that we spent $100 for 2 girls with tax/tip and left unsatisfied. We ordered two sides and an entree, and a drink each. They have stripped away the cool decor from this space that was formerly Vixen's Wedding. Also had a work group or something who were so loud and obnoxious at the bar area that conversation was impossible to hear at our table in the restaurant area. For a restaurant charging premium prices, the service, ambiance, drinks and food were too casual and careless.
