Best dinning experience I have had in Austin. They truly know the meaning of hospitality. We had two servers and they were both amazing. They gave the most honest breakdown of the menu and all their suggestions were spot on. The restaurant it self is really nice inside. Great for a date or medium size group. We ordered the steak tartare, bone marrow, hamachi crudo, corn brûlée, gnocchi baked potato, fried rice, 10oz center cut. All amazing BUT truthfully I'd go back because the hospitality was just that great.

I went here for a birthday dinner. It was an amazing meal. From the moment I walked in it was a handshake saying happy birthday to my guest. Once they seated us there was a birthday card signed by the staff. Everyone kept wishing the table Happy Birthday to us. Foodwise, everything was great except the porterhouse steak for two which wasn't what I had expected. The steak tartare as a starter was really good and I wished that there was more of it to eat. The fuji apple salad came out next and it was delicious as well and I requested a small one which was just the right portion. The garlic bread was just enough foe two people and it was just crispy enough. The gnocchi mashed potatoes was recommended by the waiter to pair as a side to the steak. Last but not least we got the banana forester banana pudding was a great dessert.

J. Carver's could be considered a somewhat hidden gem nestled between 5th and 6th street on Rio Grande Street. Please note that both valet and street parking are available. When you enter the restaurant, it is like a scene from a spy movie as you walk between a split thick black velvety curtain. What lies on the other side is a mystery until the restaurant unfolds its panoramic view. My husband and I frequent J Carver for special occasions with today being my birthday celebration. J Carver's is charming and quaint...the perfect location for an intimate dinner. Once we were inside the restaurant, we were greeted by a very attentive host and hostess who informed us that our table was not yet ready. However, we could have a seat in the complimentary champagne bar while we waited...nice touch (of course, yes!) We were served a glass of champagne and waited for 15 minutes. We were asked if we wanted another glass of champagne, which we said yes. Our table was ready almost immediately after we placed our second champagne order. The host said our champagne would be brought to our table. A personalized birthday card awaited us at our table (a pleasant surprise.) The card was sealed with a wax stamp and signed by all the staff. It meant a great deal to me the fine touches and the amount of effort that was made to make my birthday celebration memorable. We were off to an amazing start to my birthday dinner. The menu features a broad spectrum of dishes from mouthwatering seafood to aged premium wood-grilled steaks. The Italian bread could be a meal itself. I am a bread connoisseur; however, I only like the crust. However, at J Carver's I ate an entire serving of bread (inside and out) and we ordered seconds! The extra fine olive oil is the key delineator! We have ordered the Italian bread "to go" when we make pasta dishes at home...yep, it is just that good! Now, to the meal. We ordered Maine lobster bisque "En Croute" (enclosed in a thin, crispy, buttery pastry crust) ...one of our favs and the iceberg lettuce salad. With the bisque you are totally transported to Paris with the taste of the pastry top and back to the US as you consume the Maine lobster. The Lobster bisque is one of the best ones I have ever tasted...creamy and flavorful with big pieces of lobster. My husband opted for filet mignon that literally melted in your mouth. I do not recall this from our prior visits, but my husband was given a selection of steak knives to choose from with his filet mignon. I am not a major carnivore, but I had a bite of his filet which was so delicious. My entrée of choice was the halibut with mushroom risotto...OMG it was AMAZING. The halibut tasted as if it were steamed...so smooth and buttery...melting in your mouth. We also shared the jasmine rice...another winner! The Jasmine rice had large chunks of crab and was well seasoned...so, so, good! At this juncture, we felt we could not eat another bite. Surprise, the restaurant provided a complimentary birthday dessert. So, we eked a little more room for the chocolate layer cake with caramel pecan ice cream. My husband was a huge fan of the chocolate cake, and I loved the pecan caramel ice cream. The ice cream appeared to be homemade with a chunk of pecans supplanted in the ice cream with thick caramel on top. This must be the BEST caramel pecan ice cream I have ever eaten!!!The service at J. Carver's was flawless. Our wait staff, Charles, and Harold along with others were attentive and genuinely cared about ensuring you had a "white glove" dining experience. I felt like our dining experience was extremely high on their priority list. For example, we could not take a drink of water before our water glasses were filled or crumbs removed from the table. Charles also informed us that Red Ash and the new Kimberly restaurant were sister restaurants. Also, J Carvers now has a private dining room that seats a party of twelve...good to know. The staff's every action was designed for our dining enjoyment (love this!!!). J Carver's made my birthday memorable and extremely special!!! Look forward to coming back to this restaurant sometime soon...J Carver's is 5+++++++++++ Highly recommend dining at J Carver's!!!

This place is amazing. It's really dark and has classic steakhouse vibes. We sat at the bar, but it was more like sitting in on all the action. The service here is too notch too. My drink was always full and the bartenders were so knowledgeable in everything. The steak was cooked perfect. The crab fried rice is one of the best dishes I have ever had.

WOW.I cannot say enough good things about J Carver's.From the moment we walked in on a Saturday night , the gentleman up front was kind and accommodating and the service continued to be 10/10. The vibes are intimate and you most definitely want a reservation . Our eyes were definitely too big for our stomachs but we did not regret it at all.WHAT WE ATE :Hot, crispy, country Italian bread ( delicious )Yellowfin tuna tartare ( fish is fresh, love the sesame lavoche they pair it with )Wood roasted Akaushi beef bone marrow ( OMG a must try )Burgundy Vineyard Escargot Baked in Crisp Pastry Covered Rocks ( WOW )10 oz filet with creamy horseradish and sautéed spinach ( absolutely delicious )Passports and Pineapples drink ( yummy )Truthfully, we had no more room for the filet but we just had to try the steak so we split it and they kindly sliced it for us so we can share. Everything here was top tier , and all we kept talking about was how we wished this was closer to us in Dallas. We are no strangers to premier steakhouses and this one blew us away.Just another reason to visit Austin again .

A must! Came here back in October to celebrate my anniversary and our experience was great all around. Ambience: Dim, sexy and sophisticated. Makes a great spot for date night and celebrating an anniversary Service: Our waiter was super attentive, friendly and constantly checked on us which I appreciated. Food: Everything we ordered was delicious. The oysters, bone marrow, NY strip, crab fried rice was on point, yum! We also received a complimentary bananas foster dessert :) We Decor: it's the little things that go a long way ... the flowers and signed anniversary card by staff that was on our table when we arrived was very thoughtful and I appreciate that! I would definitely come back again :)

Starting with the food - each dish was high quality and delicious in combination of flavors and ingredients. Starters of crispy shrimp, and crab cake were truly fantastic - with fresh seafood and creative flavors. The waiter said the crab cake was the best he has ever had, and it's true that the generous serving of crab and flavoring ranked it among the best. Everyone enjoyed their entrees as well. I ordered the Dover Sole with brown butter and almonds, the flavoring and almonds were delicious. Halibut as well as steak was well done here as well. Overall, ambiance is also lovely with dim lighting and attentive service.

Top notch service, ambiance and food! From the moment we walked in, we were treated like so kindly and with extra care. I let them know in advance that it was my boyfriend's birthday, and they were ready for us.We ordered a lot of things and nothing disappointed us. The garlic bread was so garlic and good. They even complimented us with a Caesar salad, which was super fresh. we ended up ordering the 30 ounce fillet, which was so delicious and cooked perfectly. on the side, we were recommended to order the baked potato gnocchi and I am so happy our waiter told us to get it because it was my boyfriend's favorite thing about our entire trip to Austin. It's basically like a baked potato gnocchi form. Our server was very knowledgeable and very tentative to our needs. Because it was my boyfriend's birthday they actually gifted us any dessert we liked, complimentary. This was a great birthday dinner for just the two of us and a great last meal of our trip. I would definitely recommend people come here for a date night or even a birthday dinner.

J Carver's in Austin is an absolute must if you want a meal worth writing home (and possibly a novel) about. The bone-in filet Oscar style is practically a religious experience, draped with crab meat and hollandaise that makes you wonder if you've accidentally stepped into steak heaven. The service? Top-notch and as warm as the Texas sun, with staff that seem genuinely excited to make your evening unforgettable. Every visit here feels like a special occasion, even if you're just "celebrating" surviving Austin traffic. The ambiance at J Carver's is upscale yet unpretentious. It's the kind of place where you can dine like a Texas oil baron without feeling like you're at a pretentious high-society gala. If you're in Austin, make this a mandatory stop--just be warned, you might get hooked and need an excuse to come back every time you're in town!
