We happened to come across this restaurant last minute on Valentine's Day and I am so glad we did. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had a ribeye and it was absolutely delicious. The fries were amazing too! We will be back! Better value and tasting food than the big name restaurants.

From the moment we stepped in the people and the service was awesome. The people were genuine and that's what top service is supposed to be feel like. The place it self had a small restaurant vibe with homey type decor. The art was a nice touch as well. Great way to show local talent and help get their visions in front of customers. It was my first time there so I was told it's an absolute must to order the Hyde fries. Looking over the menu, it's a pretty good range of food. Creative pairings and a little something for everyone. The fries were just okay. It needed something to zing it up. I of course got the Chicken and waffles, the best food pairing in all of food history. And it did not disappoint. Good portions, good flavor, good crunch on the breaded chicken. I look forward to coming back and trying something new.

I hate leaving just 3 stars for Hyde Park Bar & Grill because I've always loved the food here and the friendly atmosphere. It's still a great atmosphere with friendly people working there, but the food has changed. The Mac and cheese seems to be from a box. They used to have a fantastic veggie burger made of grains, and now it's very different and not something I want to eat again. It's got chopped vegetables in it and reminds me of the frozen Dr. Praeger's patties.

SO MUCH YUM! idk how it took me so long to try this place. Chicken fried steak is the reason I went and the reason I'll definitely be back. The ambiance was adorable, and the staff was super sweet.

This is best thought of as a neighborhood place, not a destination for a meal. My wife has fond memories of this place and my daughter now lives in the neighborhood so we walked over on a mild Sunday evening in April. They were doing good business so we waited for our table at the bar. It's a nice-looking bar and they've a good cocktail list. I had their Negroni and my daughter had the Paloma while her fiance' had a brew and my wife had water. I liked my Negroni a great deal (a go-to of mine) and my daughter liked her Paloma. No sooner had we been brought our drinks, our table was ready. The restaurant has paintings on the wall by Linda Wandt which are worth looking at. She favors carnivorous plants, such as sundews and flytraps and pitcher plants juxtaposed against animals such as hummingbirds. It's a nice twist on the cattle skull motif favored by some as representing Texas. My wife had a salad and though she didn't see it on the menu, she asked about their lentil soup and was able to order that. My daughter ordered the salmon and her fiance' ordered the burger. I went with the 12oz ribeye, substituting their fries for the mashed potatoes and also ordered the greens with bacon bits. Our server was knowledgeable about the dishes and accommodating. When I expressed cautious interest in the Hullaballoo zin, she poured me a small taste. It's a good wine with a nice balance of tannins and fruit, so I went with it. Everybody was happy with their meal choice except me. To me, a ribeye is a boneless, well-marbled piece of meat, so I expect some fat among the muscle. This ribeye is not that. Well, it was boneless. They describe it as being "smoked" so that may explain the difference we have. This ribeye is a neatly-shaped lean oval of steak with sear marks so neatly impressed it might have been pre-packaged (same with the burger patty I'll note). It was not a juicy steak, but a dry one. It was not to my taste so I did not finish it. I respectfully suggest they explore using a juicier cut of meat, even if it can only be 8-10oz. Or explain that this "smoking" process results in a dry steak that may not be to everyone's taste. First time in Texas that I've had a problem with a steak.

We came here for thanksgiving with my wife and I and we absolutely loved it! We totally understand now why it's been a staple for so many years. It was just good food. The place is laid back which was great and the people were really nice.

Hyde Park is very typical of Austin --converted house restaurant with a funky menu. You walk into the bar area which has a few tables. Everything is clean and nice. Artwork is for sale on the walls. You know: Austin. Kitchen behind the bar and more tables in rooms to the left and right. They are know for their battered fries and Hyde sauce. They were OK. I ordered a chicken fried chicken. The batter slipped right off. Is didn't have much flavor. The mashed potatoes were good. The rice pilaf was also good. Nothing spectacular. My wife had the veggie burger. It was decent. The staff was nice and the seats comfortable. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but you should try it if you are in the neighborhood, which you probably won't be.

I stopped in for lunch and we were seated pretty quickly. The ambiance is nice and quiet. You can sit by the windows and people watch or have a seat at the bar. The staff seem very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I tried the shrimp po boy and their signature fries which was the meal of the day. It was a pretty big meal, so I was able to save some for later or I would have been in for a nap in the middle of work. my friend had the chicken fried steak. I am going to have to remember that because it looks delicious. This is my second trip and I will be returning for more.
