I've been fortunate enough to have tried a lot of "best place in the country for ________". Generally speaking, I walk away from most of those experiences saying some form of "I mean yeah, it was really good. But the best might be a stretch". With that being said, when it comes to brisket, Franklin Barbecue really is the best in America.

What a fantastic visit to Franklin Barbecue!Nothing but a solid experience from start to finish.Sending a hearty "thank you" to Chris and rest of the team for their kindness and awesomeService! It took about 25 minutes (lucked out w/ no lines due to rain storm) in total from arriving to getting my delicious order of barbecue. No sides for me - I went straight for the tray of brisket, ribs, turkey, and a sausage. To top off the visit, Chris and the pitmaster team provided a tour of the smoke shack - love it!You crushed it Franklin Barbecue - thank you for your delicious barbecue and the awesome service!!!

Even though we waited 1.5 hours to get a chance to have some great BBQ, it was well worth it. It was during the cold spell when Austin was really cold. Everyone had to wait outside in their coats. Once you get close to the front someone with a clipboard comes around to get an estimate of what you'll be ordering and to state what is available for your party. They did state that the pulled pork will be gone, but by the time we got to the front there was still a bit left so it was offered to us. We had a little bit of everything which was great. The best part was the beef brisket which is what they're known for and gave us a sample of before ordering.

We did our research before coming to Austin and if you're reading this, you know Franklin is high up on the list of best places for BBQ. My bf, who usually sleeps until noon on the weekends, was up and ready to go by 8am so we could line up and wait for them to open at 11am. It was a chilly and wet morning, so when we arrived, we were about 11th/12th in line. They know people line up early and graciously provide camping chairs so that patrons don't have to stand for hours. At about 9am they so awesomely allow us to buy drinks and use the restrooms during our wait. I've waited at other places for things before and I've never seen such hospitality!About an hour before they officially open, a lovely lady calls herself the "Meet and Meat" lady as she greets all the customers waiting in line personally, asking people where they are from and what they hope to get. This gives them a sense of what people are ordering and she can also inform patrons early on if you will or maybe won't get a particular item. They made about a dozen beef ribs on this particular Sunday morning and we were very happy to get to try it! We also got some pork ribs, a jalapeño sausage and brisket. Holy cow!!! This was hands down the best BBQ we had in Austin. We also went to 4 places in total. Everything was well flavored and the meat just melts in your mouth. The texture of the sausage was perfect and though it wasn't spicy the cheese was good. All the meats were juicy and tender. Fall off the bone tender. They are generous with their portions, throwing in a little extra. We ordered 2 ribs and they threw in a third. We ordered half a pound of brisket and they gave us an extra slice. Another benefit of getting there early was being able to sit inside. They have heaters outside but it was nice to take off my jacket and be less constricted to enjoy the food. No wonder people travel near and far, and wait in long lines to come here. Amazing food and amazing hospitality. We will definitely come back and wait in this line to get the good stuff again! Bf approved as a good reason to get up before noon on a weekend!

I went in on a Friday morning I arrived around 10:30 the wait time was about 45 mins. Its a small place and even though the seating is limited it was pretty easy to get a seat after ordering my food. People are constantly going in and out of the restaurant. I am guessing the line gets pretty long because they had lawn chairs available for use. The Parking is limited, Ive attached some pictures. I parked on a street behind the restaurant which wasn't too far of a walk. I ordered the 1/2LB of brisket and the regular sausage, baked beans, potato salad, Cole slaw, raw onions, pickles, and a jalapeño. (You can also order 1/4LB) I felt like 1/2 was too much just for me so I would probably order 1/4LB next time. The sides were good but I would probably skip out on the Cole slaw next time. The Brisket was great it was delicious I honestly cant wait to go back for the Brisket. The sausage was good. I would recommend it.

There was a lot of hype about Franklin's and I'm not into the tourist push. But I was in town and the line wasn't crazy sooo, I gave it a shot. I've had Texas BBQ in Austin. There are some good places. But, I have to humbly admit, now I know why Franklins is raved about. The brisket is not only tender, the depth of flavor is next level!! The pork ribs we the same way but with a different flavor note. They love what they do and it is reflected in the food. Their staff "the girls" are fantastic!! They keep a tight ship, meaning when a person leaves, the area is immediately cleaned up ready for the next guest. I love the local selection of beers too. All in all, it is a must try!

We got many recommendations to try this restaurant out and it didn't disappoint. This restaurant is always busy with long lines, but we got lucky today, we got there towards the end, they were run out of everything except brisket and chop beef (which is the ending of the cut as we found out). We ended up with a pound of each and potato salad and beens for sides. Everything was great and even out 7 month old enjoyed the brisket and the potato salad. Service is great, there are tables inside and outside in a heated area. There is also a parking lot and some street parking but it is pretty full when the restaurant is busy.

Most certainly lives up to the hype (and warrants the infamous wait). We came on a Sunday at around 11 a.m. and waited just shy of an hour and a half. The wait did not seem terrible - as the surrounding excitement for BBQ was pretty infectious. They try to warn you about anything that is sold out - and you are able to go inside/use restrooms/get drinks while waiting for your order. Since we did not come before opening, they did warn that they could not guarantee the beef ribs or turkey, but both still seemed to be available when we reached the front of the line. We split the brisket (must-get), turkey, chopped beef sandwich, slaw, and banana bourbon pie. The brisket was so tender it just falls apart with a fork - and is utterly delicious. The turkey was thinly sliced, and paired well with their array of barbecue sauces (the vinegar was a favorite, and the espresso barbecue was fun to try), however was not a standout. Slaw, onions, and pickles were the perfect compliment. By the time we made it to the pie, we were properly stuffed - but am not sure I would get next time. Highly recommend, for visitors, locals, anyone who wants some mouthwatering BBQ.

I have heard about Franklins BBQ for many years now and always wanted to try. I was lucky enough to get a brisket and sausage as a gift. This brisket was made in Austin, vacuum packed, shipped, frozen, defrosted, and reheated and I have to say, it was one of the best briskets I have ever had. So tender and juicy with such a great smokey flavor - I can't even imagine how much better it would be right off the smoker and on your plate.
