I'm still reeling from our incredible team dinner at Fonda San Miguel! From the moment we stepped in, the vibrant atmosphere and quirky art transported us to a world of authentic Mexican charm. We came in early evening on a weekday without reservations and were able to get seated immediately. The service was top-notch - attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Our server expertly guided us through the menu, and the food... oh, the food! Each dish was a masterclass in flavor and technique.Standouts included the creamy Guacamole El Refugio-style, the indulgent Queso Fundido, and the show-stopping Ancho Relleno San Miguel - a symphony of textures and flavors that left me speechless. And don't even get me started on the decadent Chocolate con Chocolate dessert! What truly impressed me, coming from NYC, was the remarkable value for the quality and quantity of food. Fonda San Miguel is a world-class restaurant that would hold its own in any major city.In short, Fonda San Miguel is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic, exceptional Mexican dining experience in Austin. I'm already counting down the days until my next visit!

Fo nda is a super cute spot, perfect for photo ops! The decor is very detailed and high quality, making for a great ambiance. However, the service was mediocre. Our waiter came by a few times but took a long time to take our orders, and both the food and drinks took a while to arrive. As for the food, it was overpriced and not good. The enchiladas suizas ($30) had a tough tortilla, and the sauce was clumpy. The tampiqueño plate ($60) claimed to have carne asada, but it did not taste like it at all. The only dishes that passed the taste test were the rice, beans, and elote soup ($10) On the bright side, the drinks were good. ($12-$20). The crepe was okay. The queso fondido was also okay. The shrimp appetizer is not recommended.I wouldn't come back here, but if I had known this about the food, I would have just come for drinks only.

Went to celebrate my daughters birthday. She had been looking forward to it for a while based on the reviews. All be it, the ambiance was nice and the look is nice too. We were disappointed with the food. I am Mexican and have traveled to several parts of Mexico, the food lacked traditional Mexican flavor, which they claim they have. It was more TexMex than Mexican, and for the price Chuys would have been better. The enchiladas suizas were dry, the carne asada tasted like it was from a flat top and they only added grill marks. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Not as good since the lockdown. Portions are smaller and more expensive. Happy hour specials aren't as good. Otherwise it's still consistent. Fun vibe, and friendly staff. You can always count on a good mole poblano.

The experience and reputation of Fonda San Miguel didn't disappoint. After multiple attempts and reservations booked for weeks or months out, I was finally able to land one!The menu offers everything from conventional Mexican to unique dishes you won't find elsewhere. My gold standard for a good Mexican restaurant is homemade, hot and fresh tortillas, and they definitely get 5 stars for those!Started with the queso with chorizo, amazing! For dinner I had the carne asada which was perfectly prepared and a deliciously juicy piece of meat. Well seasoned and generous portions make it a great option if you're hungry and want something meaty!Don't remember which drinks I had but they were tasty as well. Overall, an impressive meal and beautifully decorated restaurant. I'll be back, if I can get a revelation. :)

I dined at Fonda San Miguel for a joint birthday dinner on a Monday night with a large group of friends and it was pretty crowded. Luckily we had booked a reservation weeks in advance or we may not have found a spot. The waiter was really nice and gave us some great advice on the menu items. I tried the duck enchiladas as suggested by him and Yelp and they were really tasty. I'm usually not the biggest fan of duck but it was really good in the enchiladas and paired nicely with the sauce. My whole table ordered all different items off the menu and everyone enjoyed their dishes. One strange thing was that the restaurant ran out of beans and half the table received only rice. I assumed maybe they would give us a discount for the missing beans but no such thing happened. Also, we had told them beforehand and during the dinner that it was a joint birthday celebration. We saw on many reviews that the restaurant provides complimentary dessert, but we did not receive anything at all. If I were to just rate the food alone then I would give 5 stars. But due to the missing beans and lack of dessert, I'll have to bump it down to 4 stars.

Best restaurant in Austin. Amazing ambience, very romantic setting. Professional service, which is also friendly and accommodating. Varied interior Mexican offerings that are always tasty and with a great presentation. Best frozen margaritas in the country. Really! Love this place and look forward to going again soon.

Went to celebrate my daughter's 30th bday on a Thursday evening. It was pretty busy but we had a reservation and once we arrived, we were immediately seated, which was really nice. The food was delish with well balanced flavors. Our cocktails were wonderful as well, generous pours and not watered down! Impeccable service from our server Antonio! What a sweetie! He made sure we were well attended to, without being overbearing. Our encounters with other staff were extremely pleasant as well, from the maître, D to the young lady who bussed the table! We had a well appointed table, the atmosphere was lively and I love the old world charm of the restaurant. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience. My family and I look forward to visiting again!

Exceptional experience from the moment we pulled into the property. Greeted by the kindest valet staff. Then enter this gorgeous building not a single detail was missed. Hosts were gracious and kind. The restaurant was packed . We were able to grab the last two seats at the bar. ( with out a reservation on a Thursday ) Bar staff was friendly and full of food recommendations considering this was our first time sent by friends who boasted about it! We knew we would be pleased and wow were we!!! Wagu beef deconstructed tacos, chips and homemade salsa, and this amazing roasted duck enchilada with a spinach creamy type sauce. Five stars!!!!! We were also in love with the traditional "flan" style dessert. Might have been called something else. Don't miss this if your looking for authentic Mexican. Nestled on the "quieter" west side of Austin! Such a mix of families, business professionals , young and old customers. Clearly everyone knows this is where you can get a great meal at a fair value. We will be back.

Fonda San Miguel is a great place to take a date! While approaching the building I was impressed with the decor and the design of the building. You're transported to a Mexican/Southwestern castle looking building with large wooden doors. We visited around New Year's Eve and Christmas decorations were also adding to the magic of the evening. After entering we were met with a polite hostess. After checking our reservations she led us to our table. The dining room was beautiful with Christmas trees and a classy painting of what I assumed was the chef. It gave me the feeling that we picked a gem and I was right. My wife loved her margarita. I don't drink but the chips and salsa were delicious thin and crispy chips with 2 salsas verde and roja. The main dishes arrived and I was impressed with the chile relleno. The sauce was complex and unlike anything I had before. I normally wouldn't recommend putting raisins in a chile relleno but they made it work and it was delicious. My wife had a shrimp dish but I can't remember the name. Very spicy and delicious as well. I recommend the flan dessert. 10/10 recommend!
