I highly recommend this winery. We got the flight of three wines, which were all good and we got two empanadas. Definitely get the empanadas if you were just doing the wine tasting because they're a perfect sized snack. The parking lot and the driveway are pretty steep so you definitely need a good car to get up there. The owner was our server and he was lovely and kind. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Unfortuantely, the images below were back when the food was amazing. The chef is a good friend of mine and when I found out he left back in Jan we were already on the way. We decided to give it a shot anyways because we had a reservation. The menu changed, the steak had no flavor, and lacked many of the qualities that it contained worth the smokiness, juiciness, and flavor that was present before. Service I will say was spectacular, they compensated for the meal by gracing our table with two bottles of wine. I will probably not come back, unless the previous menu is in place, and the chef is changed. Ambiance was great, location was stellar as always, but me and my group were disappointed at the food.

4.5 starsVery cute winery. They have Argentinian wines. The shrimp and beef empanadas were delicious. Wasn't a huge fan of the chicken ones.

We had been planning to visit El Gaucho ever since they catered a work event for my company and their authentic Argentinian cuisine blew me away. Yes, it's a drive for most of us but it is worth it times 10. Their restaurant dining area is cozy but when the weather cooperates their spacious outdoor space is a perfect hill country venue to wine and dine. We began our journey with their ceviche. It's advertised as a zesty blend of white fish and shrimp with a pinch of spiced jalapeno. Ceviche with jalapeno? It worked to perfection. A generous amount of handmade chips accompanied this Appy. The four of us easily split this dish as we enjoyed our wine flight. They do have a limited menu and a hearty specials menu, emphasis on hearty. We ordered and split the Sabor Latin Plate special and I believe we finished about two-thirds of it.Check this out: an 18 oz Churrasco steak, salad, their special rice, 4 empanadas, and two smaller servings of ceviche. Of course, chimichurri accompanied the perfectly grilled steak. The homemade empanadas were just wonderful. We ordered one of each; veggie, chicken, beef, and shrimp. Others have mentioned that their wines are from the Mendoza region in Arg.If you are not familiar with Arg wines then order a flight. Their wines range from very good to excellent. Their Cab is perfect if you are eating beef. Their wine prices are more than reasonable if you order a flight or bottle.Service was 5 plus stars. Our server was very knowledgeable and greatly assisted us with our food and wine selection. We are already planning a return visit to enjoy their outdoor area for dinner and post-dinner wine and a cigar.Pro tip 1. Make a reservationPro tip 2. Order the wine flightPro tip 3. The last 100 yards or so of their driveway is a steep unpaved hill with some good-sized potholes so take your time to avoid bottoming out.

Great wine, everything else...ouch.I used to come here over the years prior and it was unparalleled quality. The chef was Argentine and made some of the best steaks I have had in my life. The appetizers were also excellent - empanadas, cheeses, blood sausage (it sounds strange but it was amazing)...very authentic experience considering we weren't in Argentina. However, the last time we went in March was a spectacular disappointment. Something must have changed, and not for the better. The steaks were tough and chewy, and no longer came with the potatoes they used to come with. There was no more cheese dip appetizer, instead replaced with chips and guacamole. Seriously? A Tex-Mex snack? It's now a Pan-Latin restaurant, and Pan-anything is generally a sign of deteriorating quality in food. This was a huge let-down after all the awesome evenings and meal I had here in the past. The wine selection is still very good, at least. It's worth a visit for that. But don't waste your time with the food, as much as it hurts to say.Pictures included from how it used to be.

Stumbled upon this location during a singles event and so happy that I did! Beautiful location in the hills of Spicewood. Scenic and cozy, yet the outside is open with plenty of places to sit. I personally love the feeling of being in the city but not quite. The lights are amazing and the furniture is comfortable. The indoor area with food is gorgeous as well and the perfect size for hosting group events or just enjoying dinner and wine with friends. Absolutely loved this place and will be returning shortly.

Great atmosphere, unfortunately they were out of just about everything on valentines weekend. They didn't have the appetizer, the entree, the bottle of wine, side dish, or salads we wanted Our server was kind and apologetic for the lack of availability and long wait times.
