I was introduced to this place a long time ago, and haven't been here since moving out of the Austin area 6 years ago. A lot has changed since then - different owners, new menu and same lighthouses on the shelves. Grabbed a seat and went over the menu. Chip & salsa arrived - no heat and watered down. Not a good start. Ordered the egg & chorizo omelet. It came with fried potatoes - they came out nicely fried. Refried beans, nice flavor and 2 street size flour tortillas. The omelet was definitely different than what I've ever eaten. It was actually scrambled eggs & chorizo wrapped up in an omelet. Way too much egg on that one. The chorizo & scrambled eggs filled the omelet. But I was expecting chorizo stuffed into the omelet. Food was ok, not impressive. I was hoping for better.

What a hidden gem this place is. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome and the space though small, is clean and hospitable. There are a lot of options on the menu and it took me a while to decide what I wanted but opted for the chicken flautas, even though both the gorditas and the pozole caught my eye. The flautas were a great choice. They were full with chicken and very crispy. They were served with a generous amount of queso fresco, lettuce, jalapeños and guacamole. The beans were a little bit more runny than I prefer but they had great flavor. Their green salsa I SO good. Definitely memorable. It was consistently busy and I can understand why. Next time, I will attempt to try the gorditas if I don't get swayed again by the flautas.

Overall El Faro is an okay spot. They are very quick and service was great. I got 2 breakfast tacos and an order of queso. Kind of disappointed in the size of queso for paying $6.99. Taste was fine I love the addition of the pico de gallo but there were so many onions. Tacos were good. A bit bland but the salsas were delicious. If you are in a rush and need a quick place this is a good spot.

My wife and I left the house with 2 goals... margaritas and tortillas. We intended to go to Lupe Tortilla but saw this place in a strip mall. We figured it would be cheaper and it was! Not only that but the food was great. No margaritas unfortunately but it's right next to a liquor store so we will have some at home!
