An upscale, intimate take on your typical hot pot experience!Made a reservation for two about a week in advance to ensure availability. Our server did a great job of breaking down both the food and drink menu on top of making some great recommendations. I ordered the D3 from the shabu-shabu portion of the menu plus the duck two ways add on, and would definitely recommend this if you want to get the whole Japanese hot pot experience. I enjoyed the assortment of perfectly cuts of pork, beef, and shrimp meatballs that I was able to pair with the different dips offered. The smoked duck breast was definitely a must try for both presentation and flavor. The dimly lit interior made for the experience all the more intimate and enjoyable.Overall, I loved trying this place out and it exceeded all expectations I had! I will say that the portion sizes are pretty small and the prices are a little high, so keep that in mind. I can see myself coming back here for a special occasion or date night in the future!

TL;DR: Omakase Japanese hot pot sounds like a cool concept, but this restaurant poorly, poorly, POORLY executes it. The long wait times, cheap ingredients, and underwhelming entrees make this a hard pass. Please do not go here (the pictures look better than the food), and definitely do not get the Omakase--you will leave unsatisfied. The story:My girlfriend and I went here, excited to try their Omakase Hot Pot. At $125 per person, plus tax and tip, this was not a cheap meal. For that price, we expected something special. What we got instead was a frustrating, overpriced, and underwhelming experience.First off, the service was fine. The waiters were reasonably attentive, but nothing extraordinary. The real issue was the absurd wait time. Twenty-five minutes. That's how long we had to sit there before we even got our appetizers--even though we had pre-ordered everything with the Omakase. That wait time is absolutely unacceptable, especially for a meal that should have been carefully curated and well-paced.When the appetizers finally arrived, they were actually good. Interesting flavors, well-prepared--I have no complaints there. But that's where the enjoyment ended. The entrees were a massive disappointment. We had three dishes: duck, pork belly, and a choice between brisket and tounge. The result? Completely underwhelming. The meat was decent at best, but the execution was nowhere near worth the price. If you break down the cost of the ingredients, we probably ate maybe around $15/20 worth of food, yet we paid $125 per person. It's just not worth it.Dessert? Nothing special. It wasn't bad, but it was forgettable--just like the rest of the meal.Final verdict: DO NOT go here. DO NOT get the Omakase. You will feel unsatisfied, frustrated, and out a couple hundred bucks for a meal that should have cost like $120ish total ($150 MAX).

Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed by Dip Dip Dip Tatsu-Ya. The space is cramped and the atmosphere is hectic, with so many people packed in and service that feels impersonal. The staff barely checks in, and we ended up waiting a while for our raw meat to arrive. The concept of cooking your own meat in broth is cool, but the execution fell flat. The broth was incredibly bland, and even after adding the "spice bomb," it didn't improve much. The only real source of flavor came from the dipping sauces, but even then, it just wasn't enough for me. Everything felt overpriced for the service and what we got. We ended up spending a significant amount of money and left feeling neither full nor satisfied. The best part of the meal was actually a tiny bowl of shaved ice they gave us at the end, which says a lot about the overall experience. The waiter had to walk us through the menu and explain how everything worked, which makes me think the restaurant could benefit from rethinking the concept a bit. I might see the appeal for large groups or special occasions just as a fun idea, but as a casual dining experience, this just didn't cut it for me. If you're looking for something with more flavor and value for your money, this probably isn't the place.

Came here for date night and we had a great time!! We started with oysters, a savory raw fish, and the pork gyoza and they were so delicious!! We got the Japanese hotpot next and it was ok, I wish the broth was a more flavorful, it was too bland for my liking. Luckily there were a lot of dipping sauces that I ended up putting in to make up for the lack of flavor. I liked the pork belly and scallops for meat but the chicken meatballs were not good, something about the flavor profile was bitter and off putting to me. I got sake to drink and it was delicious!! The server was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu!!

The vibe inside the restaurant is unreal! It was like walking into a completely different world. Our server was so accommodating and knew everything that there was to know about the entire menu. Not only that not a single glass was left empty or stomach for that matter. You are given so much broth and veggies, and the sauces are filled with flavor/umami. The non-alcoholic beverage was also delicious. The dinner was truly a culinary experience.

My first impression of DipDipDip Tatsu-Ya unfortunately started off quite poorly. We had made a reservation and were told that they were running about 5 minutes behind because they needed to clean off some of the tables when we arrived. After waiting about 20 minutes, another party arrived and was seated within 5 minutes while my party was still waiting to be seated. It was a bit upsetting waiting nearly 30 minutes after a reservation time to be seated. On the other hand, the restaurant is beautiful inside and out. You can spot the restaurant from a mile away by its unique exterior in comparison to its neighbors. The inside environment is dim and intimate. The staff was very informative and was able to explain the menu in great detail. Each time a food item came out, they carefully explained how it is recommended to be eaten/prepared. I noticed how there were some aspects of the menu that needed to be clarified by the server when I was ordering. The menu doesn't list the broths that they offer, so you need to ask if you plan on ordering the Ozen shabu-shabu as well as what vegetables are included in the shabu vegetables. We were told that initially the broth will come off as a bit bland and will gain its flavor through the dipping of the meat and vegetables, but I honestly did not notice too much of a difference as I was content with how the tonkotsu broth was already. My favorite part of the meal was the small cup of ramen noodles they give you near the end of your meal to pour your broth over. The noodles were perfectly chewy, and I loved how it tasted with the broth. As for the dipping sauces, my favorite were the shiso chimichurri and the truffle sukiyaki which brought immense flavor to the meat and vegetables. We were informed that the menu had recently changed in July, so if you haven't been since then, come give them another visit. Although there was a small hiccup at the start of the night, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at DipDipDip Tatsu-Ya and will be coming back.

Second time, as good as the first. Service is always stellar. The staff walk you through all of the options and how to make the perfect shabu-shabu. Appetizers are fun and fresh (the oysters were my favorite). We had 2 x D3 and I asked for guidance in a custom build. Scallops and shabu vegetables with a few sauces and beef meatballs. Delicious. Don't be shy, try things when you come and chat with the staff for a Michelin experience.

Made reservations and so glad I did ahead of the birthday celebration of my very good friend (who introduced me to Dipdip! Amongst other foodie places). It got packed! Our server Angie did well. I had D3 and my friend had Tonkotsu. We had Wagyu, yellow fin, Charred bone marrow, beef tongue, shrimp balls, duck fat candle, pork belly scallop! We killed it! Amazing as usual and very professional, attentive, friendly staff! Decorations were minimal but beautiful. Love this place! Standard is still high as ever Oh and Brandon is the sweetest! He remembered me and my son from our first visit. Had a lovely desert to clean our palates and wine for the birthday celebrant. Cheers

Had a birthday dinner there last night and it was terrific. We didn't know anything about eating on a cooking table but the staff explained how these dishes work. You pick different types of protein (we got beef and port meatballs, pork belly, shrimp and scallops. They bring you a pot of broth and put it on a burner that's built-in your table. You put the protein in and simmering broth and when it's cooked, you take it out and dip it into one of a few dipping sauces. Everything we had was really tasty. The seafood was fresh and so was everything else. We shared both of our similar meals and enjoyed everything tremendously. Great service too, we'll be back.

Our favorite date night and meal we've had in Austin. Our waiter Shannon made the experience. The staff allows you the space and time to enjoy your meal while taking the time to educate you on how to best enjoy. Will be back- thanks all!
